during the visit to mysore, this was oneplacei wanted to tick off my bucket list, with the help of my wife (even though she is pure veg), she ensured that i get to the place.
i took half mutton pulav and kaima. taste is good, almost similar to shivaji military hotel in bangalore. though the texture looks diff, both are pulav and people call them biriyani.

worth the money.

if you are non vegetarian, this is oneplaceyou should visit in mysore.

i came to know about thisplacea couple months go when i came to mysore. the mutton pulao that is served here is quite famous and have been even featured on multiple food channels and a couple of forums and social media. so, i had my own expectations for this place.
one fine day, i with some of my friends visited theplacefor some mutton pulao, quite excited all of us!
well, it sucked, all of it. they charge 180 for full portion of it, and half serving comes for 150.
the rice had a weird sour taste to it and tasted nothing like any other pulao i have ever had, also, they served only 2 small pieces of mutton for it’s price of 180.

verdict : not recommended at all.

p.s. - there are 2 shops at the location situated roughly 150mts apart. they are both owned by the same people. just fyi.

peace. ✌🏻

we visited thisplacefor lunch yesterday. theplacewas crowded as hell and there is a very good reason for that. we ordered the mutton palavo as the chicken palavo was over. we also ordered the mutton liver which was awesome. forget the ambiance, the crowd, the service. the food is what we came for and the food is what we enjoyed.

finally got to visit thisplacewith an impromptu mysore plan. was super hungry and tired after travelling mysore by walking. i am usually not a fan of this style of biryani, but was willing to give it a try after hearing from so many. was not disappointed. the mutton pulav was simple an delicious. meat pieces were more than satisfactory. we took half a plate of chicken kebab. price is justified.

after years of hearing stories about how good thisplaceis and how the who’s who of the state and being have patronised it, not just off but on screen as well, finally got to visit this place. beware of the fraud establishment with the same name on the street right next to this place, it just isn’t the same. the weekday menu was weak, with just biryani and three sides (mutton and chicken chops, and mutton kurma) on offer. the biryani isn’t anything exceptional to speak about (surprise!) and it tasted a bit like paradise biryani, only better over all. the quality is just unbelievable! it can easily serve two normal people and i was out of breath by the time i finished it. the meat was cooked really tender and the quantity deserves a serving mention, cause that’s how much food is served per serving. the spicy chicken chops was a very good accomplice to the subtly flavoured rice and was more of a match to it than the mosru bajji. over all, worth a visit for the legend that theplaceis, have had better biryani with much less hype in many places. an extra star only for the great wait staff.

i am a vegetarian, accompanied my friend to thisplacefor dinner one day.. he ordered the mutton pulao .. once i saw the quantity, i wasn't sure if he would be able to finish it. but he was carried away by the taste and the juicy and tender meat, which made him crave for more and he ate the whole thing.. as it is described by my friend, he loved the dish.. he also was like this was the best till date he had..

dont expect much of an ambience here, visit just for the taste and quality..

the review is completely based on my friend's taste buds and my love for food. (no influence)...

thank you 🙏

heard a lot about thisplaceand had to visit. slightly tough to locate as there are so many clones of the original.
small functional restaurant with no frills. be prepared to share your table with others as theplacegets packed even on weekdays.
we tried the highly recommended mutton biriyani. it is served on a large flat donnai- or traditional “plate” made by sewing together dried leaves. the leaf plate is piled generously with piping hot biriyani, a small helping of raitha and a lime wedge. you can get a bowl of saalna gravy on the side. the leaf itself imparts an earthy aroma to the rice.
a word of warning if you are expecting a spicy hyderabadi style biriyani - this is not theplacefor you.
the biriyani here is more like a plain white pulao/ ghee rice. very delicately spiced with whole spices and slight heat from green chillies and pepper. the meat is tender, juicy and a generous portion of ‘pieces’ is served with the rice. a squeeze of lime enhances the flavours to a whole new level. the best part about this biriyani is that it’s not at all oily nor overly spiced. so you can eat a large quantity and still feel light.
on the flip side since it is so mild it might not suit all palates & can get monotonous after a few mouthfuls. the raitha served alongside was below average and almost dry. the saalna however was rich, meaty & spicy and went well with the delicate biriyani.
verdict : do visit if you like a mild/subtle biriyani. portion size is humongous. “half” biriyani itself is quite sufficient for one person. service here deserves a special mention. it’s homely and friendly, like eating at a relatives house. our waiter stood by to have a chat and explain why their biriyani was superior to the many clones. he kept refilling our saalna & raitha & insisted we squeeze more lime over our rice. 😃

thisplaceserves very delicious mutton and chicken pulav. the uniqueness is in the tenderness of the rice, the flavours of the meat and great taste.
the must try is the mutton biryani, chicken fry, garlic chicken and mutton fry.

thisplacehas a very limited menu and mostly all mutton dishes.
we ordered mutton pulav, mutton chops and chicken kabab. coming from bengaluru we found the mutton pulav to be extremely mild in terms of spice and flavours. but the mutton was very well cooked and the soup/gravy they serve with it is quiet spicy. the chops was really nice and kabab (only chicken dish served here) was good too.

hotel hanumanthu is a legendary name when it comes to biryani or as they call it pulav. theplaceis on a busy road with little space so dont expect an ambiance. but the food is good. the pulav was very light and flavourful and the quantity was huge for the price. mutton chops went well with the pulav. i loved the way the serve the pulav. pricing is reasonable. serving delicious food since 1930.

during my last visit to mysore i made sure i paid a visit to hanmantu hotel a legendaryplacethat serves biriyani since 1930 for all the biriyani lovers in mysore. a legendaryplaceit..
a smallplacetucked in busy streets of mandi mohalla and is a landmark on its own, they are known for there biriyani or pulav as they call it.
i visited during lunch hours andplacewas pretty much full and there were lot of folks and delivery people from under eats and zomato too waiting outside the hotel to pick up food. lucky enough i got a table quickly.
ordered a half mutton biriyani and mutton chops

what's best is the portion size that is served here. for 150 rupees a half plate of biriyani that fills you up to the brim!!
and taste!! it's just amazing a simple one not too oily nor overloaded with spices but the one that has a homely feel. loved the biriyani...
then mutton chops which normally a dry starter but in here it was moist and has a small amount of curry - sooper dooper side dish - because the meat was very soft and cooked well .
will always make sure to hanmantu in my consecutive visits to mysore ...
i even met the owner of theplacemr. vishal .. an honour meeting this humble and down to earth human being.

thanks to bengaluru biriyani club for sharing the location details ofplace. as i wanted to visit thisplaceonly
. the original brach..

this review is about the hanumanthu on akbar road (yes, i went to the original hanumanthu).

being a south indian ( having tasted donne biriyani before) i would say the hype for this outlet is way too much.

of course the biriyani they serve is good but its not worth the 1 hour wait for placing order, rude waiters, stupid cashier, shitty gravy, watery raitha, unhygenic method of serving food, mostly unavailable side dishes and the high prices.

only good thing about thisplaceis you get loads of rice in the biriyani.

here goes my first review on zomato.

this legendaryplaceis popular among the masses for its "palav" style biryani. why it is so popular is 'cause the biryani is neither too oily nor laden with too much masala! in fact it wouldn't make you feel so heavy which makes it a great choice for breakfast also. for those with low spice tolerance, however, it may not be a such a hit!

their portion size is big which is why half plate of palav was more than enough, even for someone with a large appetite as i. i also had half a plate of khaima balls (minced meet balls) curry that comes with two khaima balls, for sides, that was just as tasty.

thisplacehas an ambiance of any ideal mess or military hotel, so don't come here expecting anything more than cleanliness. however, here the service is excellent! the staff are very courteous and are always looking forward to serve you like they want to!

i'd say thisplaceis excellent value for money too. the bill for half plate of biryani and half plate or khaima came up to ₹ 210 which is quite reasonable for the portion served!

hotel hanumanthu is a must visit for all biryani lovers. thing to look out: the original hotel hanumanthu is the one on akbar road. the restaurant has a red sign board and is located opposite to an egg centre!

cheers!
