came to hai phong to try the bun bo hue. it definitely wasn't the most spicy bun bo hue we've tried, which is good because other places make it way too spicy. flavour wise, it was very good, one of the better ones we've had. there is pork blood in it, so that might scare some people away. but if you're feeling adventurous, we'd recommend you give it a try! we also ordered thevietnamesestyle beef sashimi. it doesn't look appetizing but it is delicious! it tastes a little bit like the butter beef from phnom penh.

service is fine and prices are good. next time we'll come back to try the crab and maybe the hot pot.

slowly trying to work my way through all thevietnamesespots in the little saigon area. the solid ratings made me want to give hai phongvietnameserestaurant a try. it’s located in a small plaza that houses a domino’s and a few other businesses. the inside is quite large and there’s a tv in the back (they had an nfl game up). service is friendly but we weren’t too impressed; they never came back to refill our teas nor to check up on us.

finding a new and uniquevietnameserestaurant to try is always hard because everything tends to be the same everywhere you go. i mean you have your beef noodle soup, your salad roll, your grilled protein with broken rice dish…you know what i mean?. so when i heard about hai phong, i jumped at the opportunity to try it out!

one of the bestvietnameserestaurants in vancouver. they have a wide selection of dishes, including my favourite, water spinach/ong choy/morning glory. to my knowledge, this is one of the only places that serve this dish year round, and for this sole reason it is worth a visit. the other dishes which i have tried were also very good.

i recently had lunch at hai phongvietnameserestaurant in vancouver on kingsway with my buddy and as it was my first time dining here, i had to blog about it!. since it was my first visit, i will almost always opt for pho to try their staple product. my friend got the house special, but i opted to go for the large rare beef and beef balls with rice noodle soup $8.50.

my second post on avietnameserestaurant! this restaurant is located on kingsway and knight. i am pretty much a regular at this establishment because of their menu! it consist of many items that are not available at othervietnameserestaurants. along with pho, vermicelli and rice dishes like other regularvietnameserestaurants offer, they have what i like to call “home style”vietnamesefood, which are things like: cá kho tộ (caramel braised fish), tôm rang mặn (salted caramel shrimp) and canh chua (vietnamese hot and sour soup). for being a regular patron for about 2 years, it was actually my first time having their spring rolls. i was pleasantly surprised, they were pretty good! i like the egg wraps better than the rice paper wraps, so this was right up my alley! it was nice, crisp on the outside with a soft centre! it paired well with the sweet dipping fish sauce. we also got this for an appetizer which was amazing! i had to put it in capitals to captivate how good it was! i am really into rare beef so when i saw it on the menu, it was a must! they call it beef sashimi. it’s some thinly sliced lean beef with sliced onions, marinated in a little bit of lemon i believe. its garnished with roasted peanuts, fried shallots andvietnamesecoriander. the dipping sauce is some sort of soy sauce and fish sauce mix. this dish has to be one of my favourites! i have to stop myself from ordering it every time i go, i’m sure that much raw beef isn’t good for you! another item that i get pretty regularly is the bun rieu. this noodle soup is not usually at othervietnameserestaurants and when i do see it at other restaurants it’s usually not as good. its a crab and tomato based soup. think of it as a consommé, when they make a raft out of eggs and meat, but this soup actually keeps the raft as a main part of the dish and flavours it with spices! this soup has always been my favourite ever since i was young! my mom still makes it for me every time i go back home to visit. the

richard (food critic, vancouverfoodster.com ) and jenny (french born vietnamese) both agreed hai phong was their favouritevietnameserestaurant in vancouver. this was a little chat we had after we all attended “food via social media” event hosted by hootsuite. so we decided to go there for dinner after. before our dishes arrived, they gave us a plate of condiments of banana blossoms, vietnamesecoriander leave, basil, bean sprouts, chili, and lime. these were flavour enhancers for our noodle soups. i had banana blossom invietnamesenoodle soup before at kim phung, but never hadvietnamesecoriander before. apparentlyvietnamesecoriander is called laksa leave in malaysian/singaporean cuisine and used in laksa dishes. condiments for noodle soup: banana blossoms, vietnamesecoriander, basil, bean sprouts i ordered duck and bamboo shoot vermicelli in soup. i had this dish before at kim phung. the broth here was superb! the flavours were very complex. the addition ofvietnamesecoriander

a must try!!! a real authentic gem!!!. we were referred to hp by avietnamesefriend and we were so impressed with food! the banh kot (pan fried shrimp cakes) were so tasty. kudos go to the grilled marinated pork salad rolls as well. the viet. braised fish was bursting with flavors, the viet. hot and sour soup was even better than phenom phenn's, stir fried satay chix was good and the stir fried watercress with garlic was crisp and delicious! the oyster omelet was only mediocre but overall, we were really pleased with the dishes and hai phong will defs be our to go restaurant from now on!

my new fav pho place. we decided to come here especially to try their "special dry noodle", thinking whether there can be a replacement for phnom penh. to our surprise, it was pretty similar..although not exactly the same. difference: little on sweeter side, more soy sauce, less shallots/garlic. not quite as 'tasty' as phnom penh...but still very good. the ingredients are also very generous - pig's heart, pig stomach, prawns, two quail eggs, pork slices, bean-sprouts and lettuce. our friend ordered the lemongrass pork chop rice - he said it was really good too, rice wasvietnameserice and not chinese rice. it also came with some shredded pork skin.

setting: fairly clean. lots of tables. t.v.'s. service - food came pretty fast.

would def. go again!

pho ga... but grilled?. driving up kingsway, one is blasted by numerous signs offeringvietnamesecuisine, and in particular pho. hai phong is one of them. on a saturday evening, the clientele can be a bit intimidating - the rows of modified cars with dark tinted windows outside belonging to the large groups of youths inside, many of whom are well muscled. keep your gaze down and don't bump into their wheels, and you should be fine. can't say the same about the doneness level of their noodles though, as a pair of bowls we had were very overcooked. my order of pho ga came out with a puzzling side plate of some grilled chicken instead of it being simmered/boiled. broth was okay, but the noodles and mis-cooked chicken ruined it for me.
