i write this review with a glowing belly full of hai phong’s #36 – chicken with (thin) vermicelli in curry soup. the dish is full of flavour, generous amounts of meat, served with a side of veg and herbs. five stars as far as satisfyingsoupon a cold day goes. it is a classically casual atmosphere however. this spot off kingsway is one of my go-to‘s in vancouver’s little saigon.

i love this place so much. theirsoupand broth is clear and just tasty! it doesn't taste unnatural like other places and their meat is sooo good. even their lemongrass pork and chicken is the best, even comes with a small bowl of broth which is the best! the service is great too, one particular waitress is understanding and quick with the orders!

i recently had lunch at hai phong vietnamese restaurant in vancouver on kingsway with my buddy and as it was my first time dining here, i had to blog about it!. since it was my first visit, i will almost always opt for pho to try their staple product. my friend got the house special, but i opted to go for the large rare beef and beef balls with rice noodle soup $8.50.

my second post on a vietnamese restaurant! this restaurant is located on kingsway and knight. i am pretty much a regular at this establishment because of their menu! it consist of many items that are not available at other vietnamese restaurants. along with pho, vermicelli and rice dishes like other regular vietnamese restaurants offer, they have what i like to call “home style” vietnamese food, which are things like: cá kho tộ (caramel braised fish), tôm rang mặn (salted caramel shrimp) and canh chua (vietnamese hot and sour soup). for being a regular patron for about 2 years, it was actually my first time having their spring rolls. i was pleasantly surprised, they were pretty good! i like the egg wraps better than the rice paper wraps, so this was right up my alley! it was nice, crisp on the outside with a soft centre! it paired well with the sweet dipping fish sauce. we also got this for an appetizer which was amazing! i had to put it in capitals to captivate how good it was! i am really into rare beef so when i saw it on the menu, it was a must! they call it beef sashimi. it’s some thinly sliced lean beef with sliced onions, marinated in a little bit of lemon i believe. its garnished with roasted peanuts, fried shallots and vietnamese coriander. the dipping sauce is some sort of soy sauce and fish sauce mix. this dish has to be one of my favourites! i have to stop myself from ordering it every time i go, i’m sure that much raw beef isn’t good for you! another item that i get pretty regularly is the bun rieu. this noodlesoupis not usually at other vietnamese restaurants and when i do see it at other restaurants it’s usually not as good. its a crab and tomato based soup. think of it as a consommé, when they make a raft out of eggs and meat, but thissoupactually keeps the raft as a main part of the dish and flavours it with spices! thissouphas always been my favourite ever since i was young! my mom still makes it for me every time i go back home to visit. the

richard (food critic, vancouverfoodster.com ) and jenny (french born vietnamese) both agreed hai phong was their favourite vietnamese restaurant in vancouver. this was a little chat we had after we all attended “food via social media” event hosted by hootsuite. so we decided to go there for dinner after. before our dishes arrived, they gave us a plate of condiments of banana blossoms, vietnamese coriander leave, basil, bean sprouts, chili, and lime. these were flavour enhancers for our noodle soups. i had banana blossom in vietnamese noodlesoupbefore at kim phung, but never had vietnamese coriander before. apparently vietnamese coriander is called laksa leave in malaysian/singaporean cuisine and used in laksa dishes. condiments for noodle soup: banana blossoms, vietnamese coriander, basil, bean sprouts i ordered duck and bamboo shoot vermicelli in soup. i had this dish before at kim phung. the broth here was superb! the flavours were very complex. the addition of vietnamese coriander

...beef was extremely tender;soupwas absolutely delish - it had the stew flavor yet the light texture of a pho broth; egg noodle wasn't bad, but the other option of rice noodle (tried below) didn't seem that much better.

a must try!!! a real authentic gem!!!. we were referred to hp by a vietnamese friend and we were so impressed with food! the banh kot (pan fried shrimp cakes) were so tasty. kudos go to the grilled marinated pork salad rolls as well. the viet. braised fish was bursting with flavors, the viet. hot and soursoupwas even better than phenom phenn's, stir fried satay chix was good and the stir fried watercress with garlic was crisp and delicious! the oyster omelet was only mediocre but overall, we were really pleased with the dishes and hai phong will defs be our to go restaurant from now on!

beef noodles insoupis very good!. we tried the beef noodles insoupand it was very good! we also ordered a bowl of dry noodles and well, we can honestly say it didn't have much on it. there was just one quail egg and 2 pieces of shrimp and some pieces of liver . i've had this same dish at another viet restaurant on hastings which had more than double the amount of toppings. however, it was quite tasty. i loved the pork bonesoupon the side that came with the noodles. that was very sweet, maybe it had white radish in it. the pork and shrimp rolls wasn't as good compared to the other place. we also ordered the grilled pork chop with steam egg and rice and the pork was quite dry and hard. the egg pie was nice and the broken rice was something different from regular white rice served in other places. we will definitely be back to try other things on the menu as there are a lot of varieties here.
