huge selection of dishes that include many traditional ones. bun bo hue (red soup) is my favorite. cleaner than most vietnamese restaurants and has parking.

clean and friendly. for some pho joints, having a clean interior and friendly staff can be hard to come by. hai phong features a neat setup and attentive staff. the shrimp and pork salad rolls were fresh, tasty, and reasonably priced. while the real reason for our visit (their favourably reviewed pho) didn't knock my socks off (broth was underwhelming, but quality of ingredients were good), i will re-visit to sample other menu items.

it was quite empty for a friday night around 7pm, which kinda took me by surprise since they were so highly rated on urbanspoon. anyways, looked through the menu, there was a lot of variety for each person's liking. their garlic butter chicken wings ($7.95 for 6 wings) sounded delicious! utterly disappointed at how they looked when they arrived and disgusted when i tasted it.

came to hai phong to try the bun bo hue. it definitely wasn't the most spicy bun bo hue we've tried, which is good because other places make it way too spicy. flavour wise, it was very good, one of the better ones we've had. there is pork blood in it, so that might scare some people away. but if you're feeling adventurous, we'd recommend you give it a try! we also ordered the vietnamese style beef sashimi. it doesn't look appetizing but it is delicious! it tastes a little bit like the butter beef from phnom penh.

service is fine and prices are good. next time we'll come back to try the crab and maybe the hot pot.

i write this review with a glowing belly full of hai phong’s #36 – chicken with (thin) vermicelli in curry soup. the dish is full of flavour, generous amounts of meat, served with a side of veg and herbs. five stars as far as satisfying soup on a cold day goes. it is a classically casual atmosphere however. this spot off kingsway is one of my go-to‘s in vancouver’s little saigon.

slowly trying to work my way through all the vietnamese spots in the little saigon area. the solid ratings made me want to give hai phong vietnamese restaurant a try. it’s located in a small plaza that houses a domino’s and a few other businesses. the inside is quite large and there’s a tv in the back (they had an nfl game up). service is friendly but we weren’t too impressed; they never came back to refill our teas nor to check up on us.

returning from toronto i went back to what was one of my favourite pho restaurants. they must have just change ownership or chefs cause that was absolutely terrible. took 50mins to get our pho, which ended up being a fraction of what it use to be swimming in a msg and salt broth. too bad, another one bites the dust.

i love this place so much. their soup and broth is clear and just tasty! it doesn't taste unnatural like other places and their meat is sooo good. even their lemongrass pork and chicken is the best, even comes with a small bowl of broth which is the best! the service is great too, one particular waitress is understanding and quick with the orders!

best pho i’ve had in a long time. good service even when busy. large room with lots of tables so you can usually find a spot.

to those who criticize reviews by pho lovers.... it’s a free world. it’s winter and i want a great soup. so i’m often here for pho. period.

tl;dr awesome broth and selection, a must try for pho lovers!

i finally stopped by this place on kingsway on a sunday. it was already fairly busy at 11 before the
church goers came through.

i had the pho with steak and beef brisket. it was absolutely fantastic! the broth was light and clear, it wasn't drowned in msg so i wasn't desperately grabbing for water. the brisket was amazing, it was very tender and flavorful.

can't wait to to go back again!

finding a new and unique vietnamese restaurant to try is always hard because everything tends to be the same everywhere you go. i mean you have your beef noodle soup, your salad roll, your grilled protein with broken rice dish…you know what i mean?. so when i heard about hai phong, i jumped at the opportunity to try it out!
