along with the standard pho, one of my favourite dishes is the chicken wings. deep fried with chillis and garlic, they disappear fast when they arrive at our table.

...the broth was very sweet and the noodles perfect. the bamboo shoots were of the dehydrated variety so the texture was interesting - not quite crunchy but not quite tough but an odd mix of both

pho ga... but grilled?. driving up kingsway, one is blasted by numerous signs offering vietnamese cuisine, and in particular pho. hai phong is one of them. on a saturday evening, the clientele can be a bit intimidating - the rows of modified cars with dark tinted windows outside belonging to the large groups of youths inside, many of whom are well muscled. keep your gaze down and don't bump into their wheels, and you should be fine. can't say the same about the doneness level of their noodles though, as a pair of bowls we had were very overcooked. my order of pho ga came out with a puzzling side plate of some grilled chicken instead of it being simmered/boiled. broth was okay, but the noodles and mis-cooked chicken ruined it for me.
