headed down to one of my favourite day trip getaway spots – red hill for some r&r on the weekend with kw and j. foxey’s hangout has become a favourite winery lunch place for its beautiful deck, homely atmosphere and stunning views of the vines and hills (not to mention some lovely pinot).  we nabbed one of the few tables outside and got ready for a long afternoon of great company and food. quick note on the perfectly timed dishes that were consistently coming out of the kitchen and friendlyservicewe enjoy each time! foxey’s offers a long list of tasting plates written up on the chalk board inside. some constant dishes include the bbq quail and spicy meatballs, but there is a varying range each time we visit. we started off with some warm and chewy ciabatta bread, accompanied by a crunchy pistachio dukkah and olive oil. the nuttiness of the olive oil complemented the spices and black sesame in the dukkah perfectly. also ideal for mopping up the sauce and juice on some of our dishes la

what a pleasant surprise! i was not expecting much from a $38 tasting menu, but every dish was fantastic and without fault. the only exception was the meatballs which were slightly dry and lacked spice. in terms of appetite, i was quite satisfied despite the portions looking small! i was very happy in the variety of dishes offered, theservicewas fantastic and friendly and food came at a quick pace. beautiful seating outside which i wish we could have used in better weather. would highly recommend.

this is a very good dining option in this excellent mornington peninsula area. sitting inside is nice. but, there’s also a lovely area out back. sitting here under an umbrella with a fine look out over the hills and vines is near bliss. it was superb here on a temperate day like today.

we chose a number of the share platters. the bread with beautiful olive oil and pistachio spice is an excellent value dish. there’s a good amount of very good bread provided. the oil and spice are of superior quality too. the asparagus dish works well. the spears are fresh, huge and cooked to perfection with a lovely residual crispness. the asparagus is combined skilfully with blood orange segments and goat cheese. it’s a fetching fish. the meatballs are good too. tasty and moist with a nice hint of spice. they were cause for debate though with my partner saying she preferred the ones at nearby green olive. me, i like both. the avocado and pancetta with walnuts dish satisfies too. all freshness and quality. the combination works well. in addition, the mushroom sausage rolls with tomato sauce are terrific. the sauce comes with a nice little bit of heat. all in all, we really enjoyed all of the share dishes we tried.

the coffee to finish was mighty. top quality brews. servicewas lovely from several servers throughout our time here and we thought the cost of the meal with several wines was also very reasonable. as i say, foxeys is a very good option in the area. you could confidently wager a large amount that we’ll return here soon.

what a special place to enjoy a delicious lunch. theservicewas wonderful and the food was on par. the staff fed us and allowed us to sample almost everything and accommodated food allergies. we tried the sparkling rose and pinot noir, both a must. we sat in the alfresco dining area enjoying the warm sunshine overlooking the lush green backyard. if you’re nearby go but go early it gets busy for good reason.

100% for both the food and the wines we had (sparkling brut, pinot noir, sparkling rosé). as a retired chef and oenologist, i could definitely feel the hand of a master of the kitchen in the food, its preparation and presentation. my compliments to the wine makers as well. after the comprehensive tasting menu (very generous and well priced at $36 p.p.) my wife and i indulged in an excellent cheese platter. the impeccableserviceand the captivating views of the vineyards created a perfect frame. i can highly recommend this place. we will certainly be back more than once.

great place for a relaxing lunch. can be uncomfortable in winter outside whilst waiting for a table. maybe outside heating needs to be investigated?
view and setting is fantastic.servicewas warm, attentive and very welcoming.
food portions are way too small and by the time you satisfy your hunger the bill ends up very steep due to constant reordering.

a lovely lunch. i arranged lunch for a small group to celebrate my wife's birthday at foxeys. we arrived early to ensure a table and for around $40 per head for food we proceeded to indulge ourselves in a wide range of high quality tapas sized dishes which left us quite full and very impressed! matched with lovely wines, attentiveserviceand glorious views down the valley i earned some serious brownie points!

so glad we took up the "tip off" from a local. heard about this place from a rye local resident and was keen to visit after listening to stories of the great wine, great food and great atmosphere. and yes, had read the reviews of the somewhat "pushy" and "abrupt" owner....i now felt even more intrigued and had to visit so last weekend the girly brat pack headed up to foxey's ! not only were we welcomed as soon as we flung open the doors, but thisservicecontinued thru out a whole experience ...staff were so attentive from the tasting to seating us for lunch ...we thought the wine was great until we got to the food and the three us were fighting for the last morsels ! now about the grumpy old man, well he was nowhere to been seen and as for "pushy" well consider this? the place is amazing and by 12:00 was bursting at the seams with visitors so as an owner you do have to try and move people on, it's understandable - think about your fellow diners ....oh and for goodness sake remember foxey's is a winery - go there to sample their wines and then be tempted to have a glass with a fine selection of tapas and after you are full up to pussy's bow and ready for a nap, then order a coffee ....you dont do foxey's if you are up for a afternoon latte....travel further down and hit up one of the many cafés in red hill who are just that "cafés"... thank you foxey's and your staff for an amazing day,

great lunchtime experience. had lunch here today with friends... food was delicious (we had the shared platters) andservicewas quick, friendly and efficient.

my only recommendation would be to arrive early for lunch as tables book up quickly and they don't take bookings! would definitely recommend to other though for great food, wine, serviceand of course the scenery.

just arrived at at 3:30pm with my wife and newborn. thought it would be a nice place to try, have coffee perhaps some cheese and dessert. looks great inside, but we couldn't see a coffee machine and asked if they serve coffee, the response from the gentleman that had the appearance of a proprietor was "yes we do, but i hope you're having wine as well because we're not a coffee shop". well that did it for me, even though i fancied a pinot as well, but this type of arrogance and demand to consume alcohol was just beyond acceptable interaction with a client in a hospitality business. to the proprietor, aside from responsibleserviceof alcoholic beverages to a breast feeding mum and a proud dad that's in charge of a car, think again about how you speak to people, as they will fill your pockets with their money if you just treat them respectfully.

presumptuous and dollar squeezing. i visited foxey's the weekend just passed with my boyfriend and another couple, initially theservicewas good however after the group did a wine tasting of the offerings we sat down to lunch, the owner gave us a quick run down of the menu and advised we have everything on the menu ($11 per plate) which makes up a good lunch and works out approx. $30 a head, we said thank you we will think about it (having a big day of eating planned, decided to discuss our options while sitting down). a waiter then came out side and said "i believe your lunch order already in, what can i get everyone to drink" - this we found presumptuous as we had merely thanked the owner and said we will think about it.

we then ordered a few plates to share and a glass of wine each. the food was good but nothing amazing. when we went to pay my partner and i bought a bottle of wine we liked from the tasting, the owner then proceeded to tally up our bill and charge everyone an $8 tasting fee on top of the lunch we ordered, the wine we bought by the glass and the bottle of wine we bought. this left a very bad taste in our mouths as we left, it is understandable for people who simply come in and drink the tasting wine and leave, however we had spent close to $100 already and felt the $8pp tasting fee should have been waived.

needless to say we will not be returning and would recommend others not go as well, staff were rude, owner was presumptuous and squeezing unnecessary money out of patrons,. there are plenty of other better wineries to visit in the region and would highly recommend giving this one a miss.
