headed down to one of my favourite day trip getaway spots – red hill for some r&r on the weekend with kw and j. foxey’s hangout has become a favourite winerylunchplace for its beautiful deck, homely atmosphere and stunning views of the vines and hills (not to mention some lovely pinot).  we nabbed one of the few tables outside and got ready for a long afternoon of great company and food. quick note on the perfectly timed dishes that were consistently coming out of the kitchen and friendly service we enjoy each time! foxey’s offers a long list of tasting plates written up on the chalk board inside. some constant dishes include the bbq quail and spicy meatballs, but there is a varying range each time we visit. we started off with some warm and chewy ciabatta bread, accompanied by a crunchy pistachio dukkah and olive oil. the nuttiness of the olive oil complemented the spices and black sesame in the dukkah perfectly. also ideal for mopping up the sauce and juice on some of our dishes la

loved foxeys so much that i went twice in one week! they have a great range of white, red & sparkling wines that you can taste. it’s free to taste 3 wines & $10 to try the whole lot! i bought a few bottles to take home!

on both occasions i opted for the chefs menu forlunch& was able to try a bit of everything. the staff were very accomodating & made moderations to the menu for vegetarians and for those requiring gluten free.

delicious, consistent & non pretentious food for a very reasonable price. great casual dining on the mornington peninsula!

after a trip to the strawberry farm, we came here for lunch. we were directed where to park upon arrival. the restaurant only take walk-ins and no reservations so we arrived expecting to wait a little atlunchtime (1pm); being a group of five and a weekend.

we were directed to the wine cellar for some wine tasting while we waited. looking at the wine tasting menu, this is usually $8 per person with 10 wines ranging from sparkling to whites to rose to the different red wine varieties and a sweet wine at the end. two of us tasted 4 wines which ended up being complimentary while we were waiting for a table. surprisingly, the wait was short (we got through 4 and our table was ready).

the restaurant itself is not large with indoor and outdoor seating area overlooking the beautifully grown vineyards and green hills. the tables were more like coffee tables which gave a sense of lounging at home in front of a fire place and just catching up with friends and family.

the menu is simple and is made for sharing with each plate being $12. noting that some plates had bigger servings than others and may be considered more value for money for some (tip: take a look at photos to get a better idea however staff there will be able to advise as well). the menu also offers a 'leave it to us' for $35 per person where you'll get a tasting of everything on the menu which the staff advised will be a light lunch. between the five of us we spent a little over $100 (roughly $20-30 per person) on a lightlunch(no desserts) and 3 beverages (2 coffees and 1 wine); so we were a little better off doing a la carte considering we had two smaller appetites at the table. the food itself was presented very simply on a white plate where the focus was not on the presentation but rather simple homemade food that can be had with wine, good views and great company. (tip: order the bread to fill you up a little)

overall a very comfortable space to just chill and enjoy all that is on offer at a winery and although nothing was amazing about the food, it was comfort food (bit like snack/finger food) that you could easily have with friends/family while catching up.

dishes that make up this review:

bread, olive oil and pistachio spice (you can also have half loaf if you prefer)
atlantic salmon with miso mayo
mushroom sausage rolls x2
roast capsicum, anchovies, capers
bbq quail
spiced meatballs, yoghurt dip
avocado, walnuts and pancetta

came here last weekend for the first time after being recommended by lots of people. the hype was high about this place so i was going in wth high expectations, and safe to say, it meet those expectations. the place is stunning. we sat outside in the sun with a gorgeous view of the vineyard. cause it was hot (41degrees) we thought we would get a couple of glasses of rose to go with the feed me menu. the wine was perfect and the food was even better. best dish for me was he mushroom sausage roll or the tomato and feta dish. overall, perfect spot for a late afternoonlunchafter travelling round he peninsula doing wine tastings. highly recommend this place to anyone.

foxey's is a red hill gem. gets busy so get in early forlunchon the weekend or settle in with a tasting to choose your lunchtime drop whilst you wait. the menu changes daily depending on the fresh produce available...i suggest just asking the extremely friendly and helpful staff to bring you a selection of everything. at approx $30 per head...pretty good value and you won't leave hungry. mushroom sausage rolls a regular...delicious. combine this with a variety of other modern tapas style dishes and bottle of shiraz and you have a great way to spend a weekend afternoon...view pretty good too :)

a lovely lunch. i arrangedlunchfor a small group to celebrate my wife's birthday at foxeys. we arrived early to ensure a table and for around $40 per head for food we proceeded to indulge ourselves in a wide range of high quality tapas sized dishes which left us quite full and very impressed! matched with lovely wines, attentive service and glorious views down the valley i earned some serious brownie points!

so glad we took up the "tip off" from a local. heard about this place from a rye local resident and was keen to visit after listening to stories of the great wine, great food and great atmosphere. and yes, had read the reviews of the somewhat "pushy" and "abrupt" owner....i now felt even more intrigued and had to visit so last weekend the girly brat pack headed up to foxey's ! not only were we welcomed as soon as we flung open the doors, but this service continued thru out a whole experience ...staff were so attentive from the tasting to seating us forlunch...we thought the wine was great until we got to the food and the three us were fighting for the last morsels ! now about the grumpy old man, well he was nowhere to been seen and as for "pushy" well consider this? the place is amazing and by 12:00 was bursting at the seams with visitors so as an owner you do have to try and move people on, it's understandable - think about your fellow diners ....oh and for goodness sake remember foxey's is a winery - go there to sample their wines and then be tempted to have a glass with a fine selection of tapas and after you are full up to pussy's bow and ready for a nap, then order a coffee ....you dont do foxey's if you are up for a afternoon latte....travel further down and hit up one of the many cafés in red hill who are just that "cafés"... thank you foxey's and your staff for an amazing day,

great lunchtime experience. hadlunchhere today with friends... food was delicious (we had the shared platters) and service was quick, friendly and efficient.

my only recommendation would be to arrive early forlunchas tables book up quickly and they don't take bookings! would definitely recommend to other though for great food, wine, service and of course the scenery.
