felipe's mexican taqueria

amazing!!!!!. visiting from indiana and we were crazy cheap mexican food. thisplaceis amazing. their baja shrimp tacos are to die for! their queso is thick and delicious!!!

it's always hopping in here. i love the deep fried chimichanga. the bar is a coolplaceto hang out. the bartenders have always been engaging. it definitely has that french quarter personality. it typically has pleanty of tourist but because of the atmosphere they tend to be pretty laid back and full of conversation.

the food at thisplaceis decent but the staff is so incredibly rude. i asked the girl behind the counter for a high chair. she responded "we have a waitress." the waitress was nowhere to be seen. when i found her, she pointed at the high chair and didn't help me!! also, it's hard to figure out how much they charge you! they tack on additional charges for everything. a chicken plate and nachos was 22.00. expensive for the quality of the food. this is definitely a 20 something place. you have to be tolerant of poor, rude service and so-so food.

wtf?!. half the time they deliver, half the time they don't. the latina that answered the phone did not know what vegan was and of course, thisplaceis listed as "vegan" here on urbanspoon.

huge disappointment!. there is no polite way of putting this... thisplacesucked! i should have learned my lesson when a friend and i tried ordering delivery from here and had to wait for almost 2 hours only to have to call back several times only to have to cancel because it still didn't show up!

when placing our order we were informed that it would only be 30mins so we waited 45mins before we called back to check on it's status. we were told that the order was already on route and should be there w/in 10 mins. so we waited 20... nothing. we called again, they told us that the order was brought back being there was an incident that happened on route so they were going to re-make it then rush it to us (approx time given:15 mins). this ticked us off being they didn't even call us (yes, they had our number btw, they asked for it twice when taking the order) when the issue arose to give us a heads up- that we had to call back to find out for ourselves! so we let it slide though and waited another 20... again nothing! called back they said that they were making it now. wth?! that was the final straw so we cancelled the order and decided to actually go out to get food elsewhere. so much for a relaxing dinner at our hotel that we had wanted after a full day of walking around the entire fq in the sun/heat.

well, we decided to give thisplacea second chance a few days later by actually stopping in to eat. major disappointment! they messed up our orders, portion size was skimpy (i'm not expecting value size but at least standard portion sizes would have been nice), food was bland and greasy and it seemed like the staff wanted to serve you only drinks that they wanted you to have, not what you requested.

taco bell would have been better than this place!

master judge. i really like this place, the service is better at the bar than the tables and the food is fast, cheap, and huge portions for the money. i can't fault the nachos (outstanding quantity and quality) or the steak burritos (huge) to go with either margaritas or a good bloody mary. a greatplacefor dining on the cheap.

horrible/i am baffled at thie place's popularity. went went for a second try after an initial horrible experience a year ago. the line was almost out the door. the interior is welcoming enough and the prices are dirt cheap. other than that, thisplaceis the worst mexican around. how other people like thisplaceis stupefying. both times i have went they have been out of what i wanted, and both times i went during the lunch rush. the food is slopped together on a plate. the flauta's were as thin as pencils and dropped frozen into a deep fryer right in front of my face. they tasted stale. i asked for 3 different tacos and was told they didn't have the chicken i wanted. i amended my order but the guy who took my order didn't have a very good grasp of english and instead gave me 3 fish taco's. this is a cafeteria type slophouse like pancho's. garbage. i can't think of any mexican restaurant, including taco bell, that is worse than this place. i just don't get it.

much ado about nothing. i am a self proclaimed connoisseur of inexpensive mexican & latin fare, so it was with great anticipation that i ventured to felipe's last week for a quick lunch. after reading the overwhelmingly effusive reviews i was anticipating much more than what i ended up receiving. i was one of the first in line that day and decided to order a chicken taco, a chicken tinga taco, a carnita taco and an order of chicken flautas. the staff were friendly enough, although i was disappointed when i was told that the chicken tinga was not ready yet, despite it being the onset of the lunch rush. i asked for red onions and cilantro on my tacos, standard for any cantina taco, and the red onions were so bitter they were almost inedible. they over whelmed everything else on the taco and ruined them. the tortilla's themselves tasted stale and were not freshly made, as they are at the far superior pupaseria divina corona in nearby gretna. even chevy's, a chain steeped in mediocrity, presses fresh tortillas for its entrees. the chicken flautas were very thin and were, i suspect, previously frozen before being dumped en masse into a cafeteria fryer. given its desirable locale and cheap prices it is not surprising that people would flock to this place, just don't expect very good food.

good burritos and drinks!. this is my favorite burritoplacein new orleans so far. the burritos are yummy and cheap. they have a good variety for the drink menu and the drinks are made fresh (no sour mix here):) my only negative is the staff who make the burritos- they are pretty rude and they are literally slapping the ingredients on your burrito with bitterness that they are at work- oh well- maybe i just went on bad days. my suggestion would be to hire people who actually appreciate that they have a job:) anyway- overall very good!

likes it. i'm from so. cal and thisplaceequals many of the taqueria's in la. the flavor is authentic, although the salsa bar is not quite up to par. they don't have pico de gallo out , but do have 3 kinds of red sauce and one green sauce out. the meat was flavorful and everything was made fresh. the price was reasonable and is a goodplacefor a cheap (inexpensive) meal in fq.

just tried it for the 1st time tonight and loved it! being from california and just moving to new orleans, i am so thankful to have found cheap mexican food made the way it should be. thisplacewill definitely be hit up many times during my next year here in the big easy.

ate here twice during my trip to nola. after wandering about and drinking in the quarter this was a niceplaceto relax. watched the yankees win the series. excellent fat burritos and authentic salsa. off the beaten path a little but worth it.
