best, fresh, california stylemexicanfood in south louisiana.. my family and i have gone there many times and it never disappoints. the have the best food, the ingredients are fresh and the service is fast. i have recently tried the one in slidell and i have to say, i was even more impressed by the food and the location.

when in the french quarter in new orleans the first thing that comes to mind is notmexicanfood. we head down the street to felipes taqueria. it's clean on the inside. that's the first thing i notice. i also notice the large sign on the wall telling me what i can pick from.

horrible/i am baffled at thie place's popularity. went went for a second try after an initial horrible experience a year ago. the line was almost out the door. the interior is welcoming enough and the prices are dirt cheap. other than that, this place is the worstmexicanaround. how other people like this place is stupefying. both times i have went they have been out of what i wanted, and both times i went during the lunch rush. the food is slopped together on a plate. the flauta's were as thin as pencils and dropped frozen into a deep fryer right in front of my face. they tasted stale. i asked for 3 different tacos and was told they didn't have the chicken i wanted. i amended my order but the guy who took my order didn't have a very good grasp of english and instead gave me 3 fish taco's. this is a cafeteria type slophouse like pancho's. garbage. i can't think of anymexicanrestaurant, including taco bell, that is worse than this place. i just don't get it.

much ado about nothing. i am a self proclaimed connoisseur of inexpensivemexican& latin fare, so it was with great anticipation that i ventured to felipe's last week for a quick lunch. after reading the overwhelmingly effusive reviews i was anticipating much more than what i ended up receiving. i was one of the first in line that day and decided to order a chicken taco, a chicken tinga taco, a carnita taco and an order of chicken flautas. the staff were friendly enough, although i was disappointed when i was told that the chicken tinga was not ready yet, despite it being the onset of the lunch rush. i asked for red onions and cilantro on my tacos, standard for any cantina taco, and the red onions were so bitter they were almost inedible. they over whelmed everything else on the taco and ruined them. the tortilla's themselves tasted stale and were not freshly made, as they are at the far superior pupaseria divina corona in nearby gretna. even chevy's, a chain steeped in mediocrity, presses fresh tortillas for its entrees. the chicken flautas were very thin and were, i suspect, previously frozen before being dumped en masse into a cafeteria fryer. given its desirable locale and cheap prices it is not surprising that people would flock to this place, just don't expect very good food.

not too shabby for "authentic" mex. pretty good spot around the fq for that late nightmexicanfix. its a little ways off the beaten path, but well worth the wait. nice atmosphere, and fairly inexpensive. overall worth a look if you're craving texmex/mexican food.

wheredat mariachi?. i came in for a taco salad with the works. it was sizably big and more importantly fresh. the carnita was not precut but sliced to order. quite tender and juicy. all components mingled well; the guacamole, sour cream and black bean. i added hot sauce expecting an extra kick but it was underwhelming, probably moderated for less tolerant taste buds. my hibiscus tea tasted plumy and too sweet. the flan was fine except for a hardened layer of caramel.
themexicanmusic played with occasional trumpeting that was loud. was tempted to play a version of musical fleur-de-lis chairs.

great new place. clean, friendly, decent value, and great atmosphere. bartenders with personality, serving line workers are literally the best and fastest in the quarter, spacious and open interior with great chairs. the food: it's good. realize it's more of "authentic," commercializedmexicanfood, not the tex-mex we are all used to. one of my favorite places in the quarter.

not bad for a quick fix.... stopped here often for a quick burrito or quesadilla while living in the area. the staff is friendly and fast and the food is decent if you like 'assembly line'-stylemexicanfood.
