felipe's mexican taqueria

i was totally shocked how good thefoodis, how it's made and the service. it's perfect to randomly pick and walk in to get some good mexican food.

goodfoodfor a reasonable price. great alternative to the other local restaurants nearby. the tacos were really good and cost less than $5 for two. good deal!

best, fresh, california style mexicanfoodin south louisiana.. my family and i have gone there many times and it never disappoints. the have the best food, the ingredients are fresh and the service is fast. i have recently tried the one in slidell and i have to say, i was even more impressed by thefoodand the location.

not mexican food. thefoodhere is poor at best. i've been multiple times, had the chicken and beef, yet simply taste gristle. i will not go back here.

thefoodat this place is decent but the staff is so incredibly rude. i asked the girl behind the counter for a high chair. she responded "we have a waitress." the waitress was nowhere to be seen. when i found her, she pointed at the high chair and didn't help me!! also, it's hard to figure out how much they charge you! they tack on additional charges for everything. a chicken plate and nachos was 22.00. expensive for the quality of the food. this is definitely a 20 something place. you have to be tolerant of poor, rude service and so-so food.

huge disappointment!. there is no polite way of putting this... this place sucked! i should have learned my lesson when a friend and i tried ordering delivery from here and had to wait for almost 2 hours only to have to call back several times only to have to cancel because it still didn't show up!

when placing our order we were informed that it would only be 30mins so we waited 45mins before we called back to check on it's status. we were told that the order was already on route and should be there w/in 10 mins. so we waited 20... nothing. we called again, they told us that the order was brought back being there was an incident that happened on route so they were going to re-make it then rush it to us (approx time given:15 mins). this ticked us off being they didn't even call us (yes, they had our number btw, they asked for it twice when taking the order) when the issue arose to give us a heads up- that we had to call back to find out for ourselves! so we let it slide though and waited another 20... again nothing! called back they said that they were making it now. wth?! that was the final straw so we cancelled the order and decided to actually go out to getfoodelsewhere. so much for a relaxing dinner at our hotel that we had wanted after a full day of walking around the entire fq in the sun/heat.

well, we decided to give this place a second chance a few days later by actually stopping in to eat. major disappointment! they messed up our orders, portion size was skimpy (i'm not expecting value size but at least standard portion sizes would have been nice),foodwas bland and greasy and it seemed like the staff wanted to serve you only drinks that they wanted you to have, not what you requested.

taco bell would have been better than this place!

great food. this restaurant has great fresh tasting food. i got the shrimp tacos with fresh fried shrimp and their delicious guacamole sauce. thefoodwas made to order and didn't take long. it is a great quick delicious bite to get before heading to the casino that everyone should try. oh and i forgot to mention this restaurant is very affordable with everything under 10 dollars.

master judge. i really like this place, the service is better at the bar than the tables and thefoodis fast, cheap, and huge portions for the money. i can't fault the nachos (outstanding quantity and quality) or the steak burritos (huge) to go with either margaritas or a good bloody mary. a great place for dining on the cheap.

average service and poor customer service. a friend and i wanted cups for water (which are normally provided), and they refused, saying well "it's mardi gras"... basically that they can get away with charging obscene prices for bottled water since it's mardi gras.foodis fine/good. seemingly healthier, but definitely not good enough to justify poor service.

horrible/i am baffled at thie place's popularity. went went for a second try after an initial horrible experience a year ago. the line was almost out the door. the interior is welcoming enough and the prices are dirt cheap. other than that, this place is the worst mexican around. how other people like this place is stupefying. both times i have went they have been out of what i wanted, and both times i went during the lunch rush. thefoodis slopped together on a plate. the flauta's were as thin as pencils and dropped frozen into a deep fryer right in front of my face. they tasted stale. i asked for 3 different tacos and was told they didn't have the chicken i wanted. i amended my order but the guy who took my order didn't have a very good grasp of english and instead gave me 3 fish taco's. this is a cafeteria type slophouse like pancho's. garbage. i can't think of any mexican restaurant, including taco bell, that is worse than this place. i just don't get it.

much ado about nothing. i am a self proclaimed connoisseur of inexpensive mexican & latin fare, so it was with great anticipation that i ventured to felipe's last week for a quick lunch. after reading the overwhelmingly effusive reviews i was anticipating much more than what i ended up receiving. i was one of the first in line that day and decided to order a chicken taco, a chicken tinga taco, a carnita taco and an order of chicken flautas. the staff were friendly enough, although i was disappointed when i was told that the chicken tinga was not ready yet, despite it being the onset of the lunch rush. i asked for red onions and cilantro on my tacos, standard for any cantina taco, and the red onions were so bitter they were almost inedible. they over whelmed everything else on the taco and ruined them. the tortilla's themselves tasted stale and were not freshly made, as they are at the far superior pupaseria divina corona in nearby gretna. even chevy's, a chain steeped in mediocrity, presses fresh tortillas for its entrees. the chicken flautas were very thin and were, i suspect, previously frozen before being dumped en masse into a cafeteria fryer. given its desirable locale and cheap prices it is not surprising that people would flock to this place, just don't expect very good food.

i don't like felipe's--i love felipe's. thefoodis fixed to order--hot and fresh. you can tell them what ingredients you want and how much of them. the prices are perfectly reasonable. the service is quick. the shrimp are always cooked perfectly; the horchata is dynamite. what's not to like???

goodfoodwith below average service. the concept is old, but effective. put what you want on your mexican dish. fresh mixes of veggies and fixings make the visit worthwhile. b+
