very impressed with double shot - i don't usually venture too far out of this city, but this cafe was really lovely. quite big, very busy. coffees were great, but the eggs benedict was the winner. hollandaise was perfectly made, eggs cooked very well, salmon was fresh. only cons were 2 eggs on one piece of sourdough - would've ordered an extra slice if i had  known. the meals were a little cold, and wasn't the fastest service (to be fair we had a table of 15 and all food was brought out at the same time, so understandable). the raspberry pancake was delicious, so dense and tasted like a shortcake. overall agoodexperience, would recommend and will be going again.

wish we had read the reviews before coming. the reviews overwhelming say it all: ‘will not be back’! we read about doubleshot as ‘breakfast faves’ in canberra visitor guide 2018. maybe their editor should have read previous reviews before recommending & including doubleshot in their magazine. maybe doubleshot gave the editor a free brunch? basically staff appear more interested in clearing tables than serving customers. very unwelcoming, disinterested, non-smiling staff (and that comment is about the experienced ones, new staff had no idea). we were finally shown to a table after being completely ignored at the ‘wait here to be seated’ sign. the cafe wasn’t overly busy. we were seated and left. we asked to see a menu by a what appeared to be someone in charge who was clearing tables around us. she was completed disengaged, no eye contact, nothing. we were told had we waited at the ‘wait to be seated’ sign rather than simply sitting at a table we would have been given one! whoa! no one knows what’s going on here. coffee arrived first and was split into saucer. food arrived and was literally thrown onto the table in front of us and no comment. bizarre! foodgoodbut expensive, coffee ok. best part is the setting as there are very few outdoor cafes/venues in canberra. we will not be coming back. the staff need training in being respectful to customers, smiling, making eye contact and generally engaging in the huddle and bustle of a cafe, looking like they are enjoying themselves.

good thing i read the review about making a booking as it was busy when we arrived at 9am today (sat). when we were about to leave around 9.45am there was a queue for a table.

even with the business of the cafe, the staff were all polite and friendly. i wanted to try their healthy breakfast that came with smoked salmon, feta, avocado and tomato which isn’t anything fancy or different but it’s what i needed to eat on this holiday as i have been overindulging! my husband went for their spanish eggs with chorizo which was not really worth $24.50 but it filled him up. the highlight dishes were my sons strawberry and cream hot cake which came with berry sorbet, rose white choc & vanilla cream which was delicious. i could drink that little jug of that cream! a quarter way through his hotcake, he decided he wanted scrambled eggs instead, so we ordered that as a side and that was a very generous serve and it was only $4.50! we also tried their coffee and detox juice which had agoodkick of ginger.

food didn’t take too long to arrive which was a bonus and i’m glad we got to try this cafe. the prices for some dishes were a bit pricey but it’s similar to sydney prices so i can’t complain.

reasonable food, generally consistent and above average coffee. off hand and lack-lustre service usually makes for a slightly irritating experience. wait staff are very causal and often forget orders. a few menu favourites deliver well and there are somegoodcomfort food options. prepare to wait for food and longer for coffee - avoid weekend line ups!

mediocre food with small serving size. had the breakfast burger, which hasgoodfluffy brioche bun. the taste of the tomato relish they use does not quite work with the rest of the ingredients in my opinion. just sweet and bitter without any tanginess. hot chocolate was not great. they used nutella which left some oil droplets on the surface of the milk.

would recommend this place to anyone! i always go out of my way to pop in for a meal when i am back in canberra. last time i visited it was a busy saturday morning but the lovely waiter welcomed us and immediately started organising a table for six of us - very impressive!goodservice goes along way and they seem to know that at double shot... to top it all off the menu is broad and the food is fresh, modern and absolutely delicious.

there's only one waitress who was running around, giving her best service, taking order and asking how the meals were, she's so friendly and kind that she made me feel like i had known her from somewhere else (i didn't, she's just super friendly). she said that she could never figure out which cutlery go well with hotcake so she gave me all three (spoon, fork and knife), now that's when she made an impression to me. the rest of the waiter/waitress were not even keen in even doing their basic job.

coffee wasn't anything special and was served luke warm. food on the other hand was really really good. my husband has always been particular with serving size and this time he thinks he got agoodvalue for the $. his pasta's size was generous but i think my hotcake's size was a bit small.

other than that, the atmosphere was really nice. i loved how they have different kinds of outdoor table. you can clearly see the contrast between this cafe and the one next door. double shot was fully packed while there was literally nobody in the next door cafe.

in conclusion, please improve on table service (other than the friendly aussie lady waitress with ponytail of course), adjust the size of food's size and come on, please improve your coffee coz i'd really like to come back again but there are other much better coffee choices in canberra :)

food is the saviour here - everything was delicious andgoodquality. decor is great but service can use a lot of work. prices are also maybe 10-15% too high ($70 for brekkie for 2 is getting ridiculous). the menu has so many great options that i'll be back to try. a serious negative about one dish though was that the sourdough toast wasn't able to be cut!! if you serve eggs on toast, you need to be able to cut the toast to eat it. otherwise, loved both dishes and the juice was delicious too.

very ordinary. burnt toast, flavourless mushrooms, poached eggs were ok but the bacon was meh. coffees also ordinary - drinkable but somewhat burnt. the service was pretty bad. waited ages to be seated after confusion about how to get on the list (which was fine as it was a saturday morning and my first time there) but then they took ages to take our orders.  i had trouble flagging down a waitress to request butter for my toast, and then was given what i believe was margarine (crime against flavour!!!). took forever to get out of the place too as it was just total chaos with people from inside lining up to pay in a disorganised clump and constantly being queue-jumped by people from outside also trying to pay. they really need somegoodcommunication and organisation. i won't be back.

stopped by for a quick bite to eat at double shot - i ordered simple and plain - double shot flat white and a plate of eggs on toast with a side of bacon.

here i have to have rant. we get it - sourdough is a fancy bread but it's *so* 2000! eggs on toast doesn't need it...

eggs were slightly under cooked and bacon was... a little tasteless. the worst part? burnt the toast.

on thegoodside, the coffee was great - strong, hot and quick service.

food - 5/10
coffee - 8/10
eftpos available, no limit.

your acai bowl was delivered in basically a juice form. acai bowls are meant to be a thick consistency. toppings weregoodthough. they blend best with banana or mango to make it really thick.

always enjoy dining here. it's always busy at double shot but i've always found the staff to be attentive and competent, which is a hard find in canberra.goodrange of menu items and some vegetarian options too. although i always order the same thing now, the potato and carrot rosti dish with avocado. i am never disappointed! i have enjoyed other dishes here and friends have always enjoyed theirs.

the only thing i don't get, and is particularly weird for such a nicely designed cafe, is that the small coffee station is right next to the till where everyone lines up to pay. it's awkward! the wait staff are always battling to get through with coffees in hand. some designer really stuffed up there.

breakfast. two eggs, a piece of bacon, a small hard cardboard piece of sourdough looked very lonely on my plate (+tea). happy to pay forgoodfood but let down when i paid $25 for what i think they should be charging $12(-tea).
service was quick and tea was good. some small changes would help this place go along way however, i don't think ill be going back.

i gave double shot a second go after a poor first experience, unfortunately it disappointed. 18 dollars for one small piece of bread and some mushrooms is redic.

-----15 jun, 2014-----

booked a table for 1030am on a sunday morning for 12 people. arrived and were told that they were just waiting for people to leave-five minutes wait. ten minutes later we probed about when it would be ready- the male waiter was very rude and huffily said- it's very busy- five minutes. we then asked what was the point in booking if they just gave our table away and the waiter laughed and walked off. finally they scrounged 3 tables together in the middle of the walkway and that was that. seeing as this was many of our first times there- a little humility would have gone a long way. the upside was thegoodcoffee.
