double shot deakin

very impressed with double shot - i don't usually venture too far out of this city, but this cafe was really lovely. quite big, very busy. coffees were great, but the eggs benedict was the winner. hollandaise was perfectly made, eggs cooked very well, salmon was fresh. only cons were 2 eggs on one piece of sourdough - would've ordered an extra slice if i had  known. the meals were a little cold, and wasn't the fastest service (to be fair we had a table of 15 and allfoodwas brought out at the same time, so understandable). the raspberry pancake was delicious, so dense and tasted like a shortcake. overall a good experience, would recommend and will be going again.

this cafe has been a beacon of canberrafoodscene for a very long time amazing breakfast, lunches and creative creations from head chef damien and his team. recommend this place to anyone visiting or residing in canberra 5 stars.

went saturday morning and felt staff were arrogant and very stand offish. we went for a late breakfast and we’re constantly pressured to leave so our table could be used by other large groups. given we spent over $150 at the cafe i was quite taken aback by the directions to oder inside then outside and having staff unexpectedly reach between myself and the other 5 people at the table with a complete lack of subtlety in questionably trying to move us along before we had finished our meal. if you eat here be prepared to be moved along for the occasional cyclist ordering a coffee with no regard for tact or allowing a group to peacefully finish a meal. rude staff withfoodnot at a standard to overlook the attitude.

i have eaten here 3 times and twice in the last month, thefoodis definitely above average. my issue however was the the portion size for the price. definitely give a go to the specials like their orange poppyseed pancakes which were really good. their raw vegan desserts too are excellent

reserved a table for six indoors and was disappointed when we arrived to be seated outside next to a heater with blankets. we were told we’d be warm but we were not and the heater stopped working during our stay. we also had young kids so not ideal. nevertheless,foodwas really yummy but a bit pricey. i ordered the mushrooms and kale bruschetta for $19 and paid extra $ for the bacon.

wish we had read the reviews before coming. the reviews overwhelming say it all: ‘will not be back’! we read about doubleshot as ‘breakfast faves’ in canberra visitor guide 2018. maybe their editor should have read previous reviews before recommending & including doubleshot in their magazine. maybe doubleshot gave the editor a free brunch? basically staff appear more interested in clearing tables than serving customers. very unwelcoming, disinterested, non-smiling staff (and that comment is about the experienced ones, new staff had no idea). we were finally shown to a table after being completely ignored at the ‘wait here to be seated’ sign. the cafe wasn’t overly busy. we were seated and left. we asked to see a menu by a what appeared to be someone in charge who was clearing tables around us. she was completed disengaged, no eye contact, nothing. we were told had we waited at the ‘wait to be seated’ sign rather than simply sitting at a table we would have been given one! whoa! no one knows what’s going on here. coffee arrived first and was split into saucer.foodarrived and was literally thrown onto the table in front of us and no comment. bizarre!foodgood but expensive, coffee ok. best part is the setting as there are very few outdoor cafes/venues in canberra. we will not be coming back. the staff need training in being respectful to customers, smiling, making eye contact and generally engaging in the huddle and bustle of a cafe, looking like they are enjoying themselves.

reasonable food, generally consistent and above average coffee. off hand and lack-lustre service usually makes for a slightly irritating experience. wait staff are very causal and often forget orders. a few menu favourites deliver well and there are some good comfortfoodoptions. prepare to wait forfoodand longer for coffee - avoid weekend line ups!

food was nice but i found service very rude,foodcame out at different times, orders were wrong, no apology. also we had a booking but still waited 20 mins for table. was a busy day but still will not go back as found the whole experience very bad and not worth the money

mediocrefoodwith small serving size. had the breakfast burger, which has good fluffy brioche bun. the taste of the tomato relish they use does not quite work with the rest of the ingredients in my opinion. just sweet and bitter without any tanginess. hot chocolate was not great. they used nutella which left some oil droplets on the surface of the milk.

would recommend this place to anyone! i always go out of my way to pop in for a meal when i am back in canberra. last time i visited it was a busy saturday morning but the lovely waiter welcomed us and immediately started organising a table for six of us - very impressive! good service goes along way and they seem to know that at double shot... to top it all off the menu is broad and thefoodis fresh, modern and absolutely delicious.

i was looking for a new bruch spot and came upon this little gem in deakin. double shot has a really nice indoor and outdoor area with a very cozy feel. there's no need to book, just rock up and they will find you a table (we got in strait away) thefoodwas really nice and they have some cool options that i will definitely be trying! the coffee was also great, even better enjoying it in the cozy outdoor area with the heaters cranking.  there are also some delicious pastry's at the front to tempt you whilst you pay!

there's only one waitress who was running around, giving her best service, taking order and asking how the meals were, she's so friendly and kind that she made me feel like i had known her from somewhere else (i didn't, she's just super friendly). she said that she could never figure out which cutlery go well with hotcake so she gave me all three (spoon, fork and knife), now that's when she made an impression to me. the rest of the waiter/waitress were not even keen in even doing their basic job.

coffee wasn't anything special and was served luke warm.foodon the other hand was really really good. my husband has always been particular with serving size and this time he thinks he got a good value for the $. his pasta's size was generous but i think my hotcake's size was a bit small.

other than that, the atmosphere was really nice. i loved how they have different kinds of outdoor table. you can clearly see the contrast between this cafe and the one next door. double shot was fully packed while there was literally nobody in the next door cafe.

in conclusion, please improve on table service (other than the friendly aussie lady waitress with ponytail of course), adjust the size of food's size and come on, please improve your coffee coz i'd really like to come back again but there are other much better coffee choices in canberra :)

stopped here for a quick lunch today and sat outside despite the cold - the blankets were a nice touch! service was attentive although slightly rushed. however, thefoodwas delicious and reasonably priced. excellent coffee and decor. we are already making plans to return!

i have an incredibly awesome group of friends who will make pretty much any excuse to catch up – luckily breakfast is often that excuse. we gathered at double shot on a weekday morning – i started out with an apple, orange, pineapple and mint juice ($7), which was served in quite a large jar and was nicely balanced between the ingredients – there’s nothing like a fresh juice to start the day! i’d tried the mushroom dish before, so this time i went for the scrambled eggs with pecorino, grilled asparagus and truffle oil ($19). ourfoodwas

not great. made a booking which was lost, very unorganised andfoodwas very average. i used to love this place but wouldn't return after today. what happened?
