very impressed with double shot - i don't usually venture too far out of this city, but this cafe was really lovely. quite big, very busy. coffees were great, but theeggsbenedict was the winner. hollandaise was perfectly made, eggscooked very well, salmon was fresh. only cons were 2eggson one piece of sourdough - would've ordered an extra slice if i had  known. the meals were a little cold, and wasn't the fastest service (to be fair we had a table of 15 and all food was brought out at the same time, so understandable). the raspberry pancake was delicious, so dense and tasted like a shortcake. overall a good experience, would recommend and will be going again.

food is overpriced for what it is, had theeggsbenedict and it was basic. coffees did not arrive until well after the end of the meal and ended up being the wrong coffee order, waited again for the right order and the coffee tasted very bitter and was unable to drink it. couldn’t be bothered sending it back because we had already waited so long for it.
one of the servers bought us 2 different lots of meals that weren’t ours and then delivered our meals to someone else.
very disappointed as we don’t often eat out and it was a treat for us.

this cafe is located on hopetoun circuit. it was doing a roaring trade both in dine in and takeaway. they were still doing takeaway containers only with plastic cutlery and takeaway cups too. you’ll need to place your order up at the counter and make payment there. if you choose to dine in you’ll need to get them to seat you due to current restrictions.

although dining in with cardboard containers was not as glamorous with proper crockery and cutlery, eggsbenedict with pialligo bacon was still a tasty meal. the poachedeggswere done well and the dish had a lovely taste to it. the bacon was crisp. i had a lovely belgian milk hot chocolate which was sweet and creamy.

good thing i read the review about making a booking as it was busy when we arrived at 9am today (sat). when we were about to leave around 9.45am there was a queue for a table.

even with the business of the cafe, the staff were all polite and friendly. i wanted to try their healthy breakfast that came with smoked salmon, feta, avocado and tomato which isn’t anything fancy or different but it’s what i needed to eat on this holiday as i have been overindulging! my husband went for their spanisheggswith chorizo which was not really worth $24.50 but it filled him up. the highlight dishes were my sons strawberry and cream hot cake which came with berry sorbet, rose white choc & vanilla cream which was delicious. i could drink that little jug of that cream! a quarter way through his hotcake, he decided he wanted scrambledeggsinstead, so we ordered that as a side and that was a very generous serve and it was only $4.50! we also tried their coffee and detox juice which had a good kick of ginger.

food didn’t take too long to arrive which was a bonus and i’m glad we got to try this cafe. the prices for some dishes were a bit pricey but it’s similar to sydney prices so i can’t complain.

very nice ambiance, quick efficient staff. great location. we both orderedeggsbenedict and were very dissapointed.  it looked small on the big plate. it consisted of two very small thin burger buns, with eggs, bacon and hollandaise sauce. the toppings were nice and the sauce was nice but it was so small. and for $18 each we expected a little more. the coffee was nice. sunday extra charges and a visa card usage fee just made us feel it was a bit of a rip off. it was over $50.

went for breakfast around 10am on a saturday and i would highly recommend booking a table like we did as the wait looked really long!
we were seated quickly and were left for about 5 minutes to make our selection. we orderedeggsbenedict with bacon and the fig & raisin toast. the poachedeggswere oozing and done perfectly and most importantly, the sourdough toast wasn’t over-cooked!

food came out within 15 minutes of ordering and the coffees were quick too.
service was great with efficient and happy staff and i’d say i’ll visit again.

food is the saviour here - everything was delicious and good quality. decor is great but service can use a lot of work. prices are also maybe 10-15% too high ($70 for brekkie for 2 is getting ridiculous). the menu has so many great options that i'll be back to try. a serious negative about one dish though was that the sourdough toast wasn't able to be cut!! if you serveeggson toast, you need to be able to cut the toast to eat it. otherwise, loved both dishes and the juice was delicious too.

actually had a decent breakfast at this place. ordered scrambledeggs(no toast) with bacon and mushrooms and it was really nice. that's where it stopped. despite the fact that i asked for no toast, i was charged the extra $5 for a piece of toast that wasn't even on the plate. the 'extras' menu clearly states thateggsare $3 each and thateggsand toast is $11. they refused to take the $5 off the bill even though i didn't order or receive toast. absolutely ridiculous.

having meant to go back sooner, i realised it had been over a year since my last visit to double shot in deakin. i finally returned to double shot last week, during the christmas/new year shut down period, as it was one of the few eateries that remained open in canberra. the menu had so many delicious sounding items on it for both breakfast and lunch. i know i will be back to try out more dishes. it was a slightly cool morning and i had mistakenly left my cardigan at home, so breakfast of the moroccan bakedeggs($18) was a must. while waiting for a table, i had seen the dish come out of the kitchen and it looked fantastic. the bakedeggsconsisted of tomato sugo, zucchini, pearl cous cous and was served with turkish bread. i decided to add a side of potato rosti ($4) too. i really loved this dish. the pearl cous cous gave it extra oomph and i found i liked it better than beans (the usual partner in crime to baked eggs) which can be a bit too heavy. the egg yolk was runny spilling into the rest of the dish. i found the turkish bread a tad dry for my liking but the tomato sugo made up for it.

i have an incredibly awesome group of friends who will make pretty much any excuse to catch up – luckily breakfast is often that excuse. we gathered at double shot on a weekday morning – i started out with an apple, orange, pineapple and mint juice ($7), which was served in quite a large jar and was nicely balanced between the ingredients – there’s nothing like a fresh juice to start the day! i’d tried the mushroom dish before, so this time i went for the scrambledeggswith pecorino, grilled asparagus and truffle oil ($19). our food was

very ordinary. burnt toast, flavourless mushrooms, poachedeggswere ok but the bacon was meh. coffees also ordinary - drinkable but somewhat burnt. the service was pretty bad. waited ages to be seated after confusion about how to get on the list (which was fine as it was a saturday morning and my first time there) but then they took ages to take our orders.  i had trouble flagging down a waitress to request butter for my toast, and then was given what i believe was margarine (crime against flavour!!!). took forever to get out of the place too as it was just total chaos with people from inside lining up to pay in a disorganised clump and constantly being queue-jumped by people from outside also trying to pay. they really need some good communication and organisation. i won't be back.

stopped by for a quick bite to eat at double shot - i ordered simple and plain - double shot flat white and a plate ofeggson toast with a side of bacon.

here i have to have rant. we get it - sourdough is a fancy bread but it's *so* 2000!eggson toast doesn't need it...

eggs were slightly under cooked and bacon was... a little tasteless. the worst part? burnt the toast.

on the good side, the coffee was great - strong, hot and quick service.

food - 5/10
coffee - 8/10
eftpos available, no limit.
