food is overpriced for what it is, had the eggs benedict and it was basic. coffees did not arrive until well after the end of the meal and ended up being the wrongcoffeeorder, waited again for the right order and thecoffeetasted very bitter and was unable to drink it. couldn’t be bothered sending it back because we had already waited so long for it.
one of the servers bought us 2 different lots of meals that weren’t ours and then delivered our meals to someone else.
very disappointed as we don’t often eat out and it was a treat for us.

went saturday morning and felt staff were arrogant and very stand offish. we went for a late breakfast and we’re constantly pressured to leave so our table could be used by other large groups. given we spent over $150 at the cafe i was quite taken aback by the directions to oder inside then outside and having staff unexpectedly reach between myself and the other 5 people at the table with a complete lack of subtlety in questionably trying to move us along before we had finished our meal. if you eat here be prepared to be moved along for the occasional cyclist ordering acoffeewith no regard for tact or allowing a group to peacefully finish a meal. rude staff with food not at a standard to overlook the attitude.

nice enough, but two smoothies and a mug ofcoffeewas twenty eight dollars...😳 i wouldn't choose this place first out of several other nice places in the area. that sunday surcharge is a bit rich considering how intensely busy they are and the price of the food, i am sure they can afford to pay their staff penalty rates...

great venue, fantastic staff, greatcoffee- but $18 for a cheese toastie - seriously?? i had a cheese toastie at nishi in their downstairs cafe, and at $9.00 considered it expensive enough but it was truly delicious, plus they had added chutney. ds should use half the ham as there is far too much, add some tomato, and halve the price to make it palatable all round.

wish we had read the reviews before coming. the reviews overwhelming say it all: ‘will not be back’! we read about doubleshot as ‘breakfast faves’ in canberra visitor guide 2018. maybe their editor should have read previous reviews before recommending & including doubleshot in their magazine. maybe doubleshot gave the editor a free brunch? basically staff appear more interested in clearing tables than serving customers. very unwelcoming, disinterested, non-smiling staff (and that comment is about the experienced ones, new staff had no idea). we were finally shown to a table after being completely ignored at the ‘wait here to be seated’ sign. the cafe wasn’t overly busy. we were seated and left. we asked to see a menu by a what appeared to be someone in charge who was clearing tables around us. she was completed disengaged, no eye contact, nothing. we were told had we waited at the ‘wait to be seated’ sign rather than simply sitting at a table we would have been given one! whoa! no one knows what’s going on here.coffeearrived first and was split into saucer. food arrived and was literally thrown onto the table in front of us and no comment. bizarre! food good but expensive, coffeeok. best part is the setting as there are very few outdoor cafes/venues in canberra. we will not be coming back. the staff need training in being respectful to customers, smiling, making eye contact and generally engaging in the huddle and bustle of a cafe, looking like they are enjoying themselves.

good thing i read the review about making a booking as it was busy when we arrived at 9am today (sat). when we were about to leave around 9.45am there was a queue for a table.

even with the business of the cafe, the staff were all polite and friendly. i wanted to try their healthy breakfast that came with smoked salmon, feta, avocado and tomato which isn’t anything fancy or different but it’s what i needed to eat on this holiday as i have been overindulging! my husband went for their spanish eggs with chorizo which was not really worth $24.50 but it filled him up. the highlight dishes were my sons strawberry and cream hot cake which came with berry sorbet, rose white choc & vanilla cream which was delicious. i could drink that little jug of that cream! a quarter way through his hotcake, he decided he wanted scrambled eggs instead, so we ordered that as a side and that was a very generous serve and it was only $4.50! we also tried theircoffeeand detox juice which had a good kick of ginger.

food didn’t take too long to arrive which was a bonus and i’m glad we got to try this cafe. the prices for some dishes were a bit pricey but it’s similar to sydney prices so i can’t complain.

very nice ambiance, quick efficient staff. great location. we both ordered eggs benedict and were very dissapointed.  it looked small on the big plate. it consisted of two very small thin burger buns, with eggs, bacon and hollandaise sauce. the toppings were nice and the sauce was nice but it was so small. and for $18 each we expected a little more. thecoffeewas nice. sunday extra charges and a visa card usage fee just made us feel it was a bit of a rip off. it was over $50.

reasonable food, generally consistent and above average coffee. off hand and lack-lustre service usually makes for a slightly irritating experience. wait staff are very causal and often forget orders. a few menu favourites deliver well and there are some good comfort food options. prepare to wait for food and longer forcoffee- avoid weekend line ups!

busy, urban-style cafe in the heart of deakin. service was a bit clinical; but all in all not too bad.coffeewas superb.

chicken burger: while this was a decent burger, it didn't live up to expectations! chips were served lukewarm-cold. it is served with fresh pineapple as a base - so really has a tropical flavour to it which will appeal to some! the crumbed chicken was perhaps a little bland...
chicken pot pie: the pie itself was full of flavour along with a sweet puff pastry piece. the size of the puff pastry complemented the pot pie as it wasn't oversized & didn't take away from the filling. the sweet potato chips were crispy & worked well with the dish.

i was looking for a new bruch spot and came upon this little gem in deakin. double shot has a really nice indoor and outdoor area with a very cozy feel. there's no need to book, just rock up and they will find you a table (we got in strait away) the food was really nice and they have some cool options that i will definitely be trying! thecoffeewas also great, even better enjoying it in the cozy outdoor area with the heaters cranking.  there are also some delicious pastry's at the front to tempt you whilst you pay!

there's only one waitress who was running around, giving her best service, taking order and asking how the meals were, she's so friendly and kind that she made me feel like i had known her from somewhere else (i didn't, she's just super friendly). she said that she could never figure out which cutlery go well with hotcake so she gave me all three (spoon, fork and knife), now that's when she made an impression to me. the rest of the waiter/waitress were not even keen in even doing their basic job.

coffee wasn't anything special and was served luke warm. food on the other hand was really really good. my husband has always been particular with serving size and this time he thinks he got a good value for the $. his pasta's size was generous but i think my hotcake's size was a bit small.

other than that, the atmosphere was really nice. i loved how they have different kinds of outdoor table. you can clearly see the contrast between this cafe and the one next door. double shot was fully packed while there was literally nobody in the next door cafe.

in conclusion, please improve on table service (other than the friendly aussie lady waitress with ponytail of course), adjust the size of food's size and come on, please improve yourcoffeecoz i'd really like to come back again but there are other much bettercoffeechoices in canberra :)

double shot's sign says 'i wake up wanting to kiss you' and if you could kiss a café, that's just what we'd be saying about it. they do great breakfast, especially the acai and muesli bowls. really colourful, really healthy and super fast service. not a bad place forcoffeeeither. one to check out.
