good, not great, especially considering the price. they've raised their prices. the shrimp and oyster was $18. maybe i went too early in the day... maybe it was just an off day for them... maybe this or that... i don't know. what i do know is that zimmer's is better and not as expensive. i really thought i was going to fall in love with this place. because it's so expensive, i don't know if i'll be willing to give them a second chance.

just ok. we hadn't been here in years and on a trip to nola this weekend, we stopped in on our way out for an oyster and shrimp poboy. our total was $35 for the two sandwiches, without drinks! and only about 7 or 8 oysters on the whole sandwich. there are better poboys in new orleans, without the wait, the tiny space and the bad restrooms. i love that it hasn't changed in 40 years -- it is really the real thing, as far as new orleans sandwich shops go, but we will forego this one on future trips, just better sandwiches out there to be had.

supposedly known for having the best fried shrimp po’ boys in town, domilise’s was also included in bourdain’s “no reservations” edition of new orleans (although we didn’t know this before we got there and the lady making the sandwiches told us – she obviously assumed that was where we had discovered them). we ordered one large fried shrimp po’ boy and one small “bourdain special”, which is a fried shrimp po’ boy wi

if you’re not careful, you’ll drive right by this place. i missed it twice! be warned, placing your order here is a little tricky. so when you walk in, look for a ticket dispenser, they will call your number, this is when you step up to the cash register and place your order. the menu is on the wall located behind you (so on the wall to your left as you walk in) and hand-written as is new orleans style. after you place your order, you pray and hope that a table will open up. if the po boy gods allow it, you will be given a place to sit. while waiting for your food, you can yonder over to the bar where you can get your choice of assorted cold drinks and zapp’s chips. then your order number is called and this is when you pay for your food. sooo, how did my experience here go? nothing like what i just described. we did everything that you could possibly do wrong! we almost got up and left without even paying! shrimp po boy

definitely not worth the price. what is all the hype about? the poboys are mediocre and overpriced.

this is one of those "iconic" places that everyone raves about, "the best poboy in new orleans", etc. indeed, the 70's brown paneling and rough-edge neighborhood will send every iconic hipster into a tailspin. however, the overpowering smell of rancid grease upon walking in just about did us in. maybe i just don't get the whole poboy concept, but it's really just a sandwich with a lot of bread. my can of coke came with no ice, no cup. kids liked their "hot dog" poboys pretty well, but all in all with the fairly high prices, 4 drinks, 4 poboys and one bag of chips was $50 for lunch. and we decided that was $50 we'd rather have back.

po-boy paradise. domilises is a tiny place where you take a number and wait to place your order. the counter staff was friendly and the po-boys came out fast. seating is limited, but we were able to squeeze up to the bar and we enjoyed our shrimp and gravy po-boys. i particularly enjoyed the shrimp-it was fried to golden perfection and it was not greasy at all as some others have reported. next time i am in the area i will definitely go back.

very real old new orleans.. one of the benefits of never re-decorating, is that when old and authentic come into style, you got something to sell, and sell it they do with prices higher than they ought to be for average new orleans po-boys.

and i will take/send tourists there, as it is the is the real thing -- an authentic family owned sandwich shop where behind the counter, they speak "yat", darlin'.

classic new orleans! i recommend the oyster po-boy with a cold bottle of barq's root beer. be prepared to wait in line for awhile, though.

not worth it. i eat poboys all over town. some good. some bad. they are consistently bad. not sure what all the hype is about. and everyone working there needs to be slapped. get over your self! save your money and go any where else.

the place is quite modest, a bit far from the city, i went using the street cars, took me a while to get there, i should have taken the car. family run, in a corner on a desolated street, full of pictures and memorabilia, the staff will make you feel like you’re home, i think they are all family, extremely friendly, i got quite late, ate my sandwich had a beer, and called a taxi, the taxi took long time, they offer me a free beer, and the bartender even offer me a ride back to the city.

paradoxically, my expectations of grandeur were overblown by the sheer divyness of domilise’s outward appearance. “this place is such a dump, it must be great!”

classic nola poboy. everyone should come to domilises once in their life for either a roast beef or shrimp po-boy with a barq's rootbeer. it's a new orleans rite of passage.
that being said, i like other po-boys more than domilise's, but it is still a great sandwich.
