go there for the food and for beer. my most recent visit included the chopped plate with a great axis burger and the best grilled veggies to be had anywhere. the mushrooms were soft and juicy and the asparagus was salty crispy goodness. i've also had the fish tacos, the sausage ,and the chicken wraps and would be happy to have any of them again. the venue is what it is; it's a converted house trying to be a restaurant. it's clean and thestaffare friendly, but young and perhaps a little distracted by each other.

best beer in town. the food is awesome. the waitstaffis super friendly. the owner owns a bar and is responsible about things. he is friendly and talks kindly to people coming in. his beer is amazing always changing and fun!! the food is always so delicious!

green tomatoes! yum
fries! yum
several meat choices for your burgers!!
i get the best and biggest salad in town there!!
i hear the fish and chips is yum, but i don't eat fish,
they make a lot of things from scratch.

you may have to wait for service but not usually. it's crowded because it's incredibly delicious.

get the beer sampler. do it every time your in boerne it's always different because they brew it there and experiment with the kegs.

thank you for this dog friendly environment!!

good food, but beware the service!. we eat at the dodging duck maybe once a month. but, this is not a place to go if you're in a hurry. the food is always pretty good, we love the sausage plate and chicken bandilleros. the beer is always really good as well. the problem is that thestaffis kind of awful. they are all sweet enough, but not really experienced servers. you will wait to get your drinks refilled and your check. it is pretty common for the servers to disappear for awhile. also, they do not make the desserts, the boerne cooking college students make them. sometimes they are amazing, had a pumpkin cheesecake last week that was awesome, and sometimes they are under or over cooked and pretty bad. overall, we like the food enough to know that we just need to give ourselves ample time to eat there and keep our cool with the staff.

food was excellent...service, well.... went to the dodging duck brewhaus on friday afternoon.

staff seemed friendly, even though i'm a "brown" person, i was called 'sir' so i doubt there are any raging racists working here, unless they have the evening shift. i don't know what the circumstances surrounding the other "non-whites" feeling "profiled" were at this place, but i didn't pick up that vibe.

the one odd thing that i did pick up though was the waitstaff's indifference. my partner and i ordered our drinks--i ordered iced tea, my partner ordered apple cider. when the drinks arrived, i got my iced tea, and my partner received an apple cider beer. now, he didn't order beer, he ordered apple cider. when the waitress came back, he told her that he had requested apple cider and she agreed that it was her mistake for not informing him that what he received was in fact beer, so he ordered plain water instead.

the antelope burger ($11.95) is very good...just know that it comes by itself, you have to pay an additional $1.00 if you want fries. the waitress actually told my partner that could pick a side, so we assumed that it came with the burger, not have to pay extra for it. another example of the lackluster service. i don't know, maybe the waitstaffis told to do things such as this in order to improve sales, but judging by all the negative responses on sites such as urban spoon, not everybody is willing to give this place a second chance.

when the bill arrives, the apple cider beer is still listed ($6.00) . i don't bother to make a scene, bill gets paid, we leave, and i decide on what exactly i'm going to say in my review.

typically, when a mistake happens, the restaurant usually takes it off of the bill. he ordered apple cider, not apple cider beer. he took one sip and sent it back. clearly she made the mistake but didn't own up to it. i wonder if the waitstaff has to pay the restaurant if a customer returns something? that's about the only excuse that i can think of as to why waitstaff does things such as this.

the waitstaff at this place don't seem too interested in inquiring or offering the customers any additional information...it's like they're there doing their job and any additional duties (such as customer service) don't really matter.

our waitress was very nice and friendly. she did come by and refill my iced tea when she saw my empty glass. i just think that customers have to be on their toes at this place.

the food is good though, at least what we ordered--hill country sausage plate and the antelope burger. the atmosphere was nice and friendly--if you go, sit outside and watch the ducks across the street. the only negative of sitting outdoors are the flies.

avoid. mediocre food. the fries were limp and barely warm. the fish was hard to cut. the burgers were decent.

the service was atrocious. after ordering, we waited for over an hour while watching all the customers around us being served quickly. other customers came, ate, and left while we were waiting. we did notice that thestaffand all the other customers were white. we suspect this may just not be a good place for brown people to eat. everyone else appeared to get service and food much quicker than us. we rarely saw our waitress. we had to get our own to go containers and hunt her down in order to pay. we will not be dining here again.

the art on the walls was cool. not worth a visit though, especially not if you're brown.

it took 10 minutes for our waitress to come by, as 3 otherstaffmembers walked back and forth serving their tables. she finally appeared, blaming a communication problem, and took our drink and appetizer order. 3 minutes later she was back with the drinks and took our meal order, so things were looking up. then 18 minutes passes with nothing. we paid for our drinks at the bar and left. another server, who actually seemed competent, apologized. i hope that waitress gets fired, because she's truly incompetent. i'm rating the food low because i'm assuming no quality standards on the floor means none in the kitchen either, not that we got the chance to eat anything in our over 30 minute stay. we are new to the area and will not be back. we were hoping for good, local food, and got ok beer (the darker beers are decent, the light beers taste medicinal), no food, and no service to speak of.

these people are delusional. nothing more than an overpriced, over-hyped "soup/sandwich" place. i'm not opposed to paying a little extra for "ambiance", but this place is ridiculously cramped and thestaffis extremely rude and unhelpful. the food is plain, and i could practically dig a hole to china and climb back in time for it to arrive. (especially annoying when they aren't actually cooking much of their menu) didn't have a beer, but by the time i left, i sure needed one. avoid like the plague - failed attempt at a tourist spot.

favorite restaurant. i may be a little biased when saying it's my favorite restaurant, because we live down the street and hang out at the dodging duck frequently - knowing the waitstaffand the convenience of walking definitely adds to the experience at any restaurant. that being said, we love the hamburgers (they offer beef or antelope - both are really good) served on jalapeno cheese buns, the fish and chips, the philly cheesesteak sandwich, and the fried green tomatoes. the waiters/waitresses are incredibly friendly whether it's your first time or your fiftieth.

it can take awhile for the food to come out, but rushing is not the point of this place. sit on the deck on a warm evening with a pint or a glass of wine, listen to the laughter of the kids playing in the enclosed yard, enjoy an appetizer and unwind. and then when you're stuffed and don't think you can possibly have another bite, order the apple pie. it can be pricey, but you will come away from your dining experience feeling refreshed like you've gone on vacation (can taco cabana do that?). to avoid high prices, go mon - fri from 4-6 for happy hour when drinks and appetizers are 50% off.

whiner at the duck. i have never had bad service at the dodging duck. when it gets crowded it is slow but, it is certainly not the wait staff. it sounds like blair howard needs to feel important by bullying the waitstaffwho can't fight back on these online forums and reviews. i ate there tonight and was extremely happy with the great service and i tipped accordingly. only cheap chumps stiff wait staff. you guys are great!
