poor service. first i want to state thefoodwas very good. we live in schertz and made the trip to boerne to visit my wife's son during his lunch break from work and after that we went to the dodging duck to see if it was as good as the reviews on here. we were very disappointed in the service of our waiter. we were seated right away and then waited for about 10 minutes before our waiter (benjamin) decided to come to our table. we were seated where i could see the hostess station and realized our waiter had been standing there flirting with the girls while we where waiting. when he did finally come to our table he did not introduce himself or welcome us to the restaurant. we had already determined what we were going to order and placed our order with his first visit. when he brought our drinks back he placed them on the table and abruptly. i was going to ask for a glass of water to go with the beer sampler but he left to fast. he returned to the hostess station and continued to flirt with the girls there. he did not return to our table till thefoodcame out and then he would come by on a regular basis. i just wonder why he did not do that from the start. i did not say anything to the management because i was very upset and just wanted to get out of there. when we first looked at the menu we had decide we were going to get some cherry pie to take home with us but we changed our minds due to the service we received. in my opinion if you do not want to be at work or have other alternative desires then do it on your time and not when you are supposed to be taking care of customers for a business.

wonderful!. we went here on mother's day, and it was amazing! we had the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer, then for lunch we had the fish & chips, the mahi mahi tacos and the chicken bandellerios (sp?) and everything was exceptional, even the service was great! to top off the greatfoodthe beer was some of the best i've ever had, and i have had a lot of beer :). i will definitely go here again and again.

we are regulars!. i've read the other reviews that say the service is very slow and the prices are a little high. that's true. but that's the only thing i'd change about this place - thefoodis amazing. they make most of it from scratch (including french fries and ranch dressing), and you can just tell that they cook with love and care about what they serve. this is our favorite restaurant in town - we recommend the philly cheese steak sandwich.

to avoid the long wait, we usually call ahead and get ourfoodto go!

go there for thefoodand for beer. my most recent visit included the chopped plate with a great axis burger and the best grilled veggies to be had anywhere. the mushrooms were soft and juicy and the asparagus was salty crispy goodness. i've also had the fish tacos, the sausage ,and the chicken wraps and would be happy to have any of them again. the venue is what it is; it's a converted house trying to be a restaurant. it's clean and the staff are friendly, but young and perhaps a little distracted by each other.

best beer in town. thefoodis awesome. the wait staff is super friendly. the owner owns a bar and is responsible about things. he is friendly and talks kindly to people coming in. his beer is amazing always changing and fun!! thefoodis always so delicious!

green tomatoes! yum
fries! yum
several meat choices for your burgers!!
i get the best and biggest salad in town there!!
i hear the fish and chips is yum, but i don't eat fish,
they make a lot of things from scratch.

you may have to wait for service but not usually. it's crowded because it's incredibly delicious.

get the beer sampler. do it every time your in boerne it's always different because they brew it there and experiment with the kegs.

thank you for this dog friendly environment!!

beer is good.foodwas ok. i had the giant pretzel with sausage and cheese. thought the sausage was dry and the pretzel was greasy. beer however was excellent. place itself was small and cramped...no reason to come here for thefoodbut many reasons for the awesome beer.

good food, but beware the service!. we eat at the dodging duck maybe once a month. but, this is not a place to go if you're in a hurry. thefoodis always pretty good, we love the sausage plate and chicken bandilleros. the beer is always really good as well. the problem is that the staff is kind of awful. they are all sweet enough, but not really experienced servers. you will wait to get your drinks refilled and your check. it is pretty common for the servers to disappear for awhile. also, they do not make the desserts, the boerne cooking college students make them. sometimes they are amazing, had a pumpkin cheesecake last week that was awesome, and sometimes they are under or over cooked and pretty bad. overall, we like thefoodenough to know that we just need to give ourselves ample time to eat there and keep our cool with the staff.

food was excellent...service, well.... went to the dodging duck brewhaus on friday afternoon.

staff seemed friendly, even though i'm a "brown" person, i was called 'sir' so i doubt there are any raging racists working here, unless they have the evening shift. i don't know what the circumstances surrounding the other "non-whites" feeling "profiled" were at this place, but i didn't pick up that vibe.

the one odd thing that i did pick up though was the waitstaff's indifference. my partner and i ordered our drinks--i ordered iced tea, my partner ordered apple cider. when the drinks arrived, i got my iced tea, and my partner received an apple cider beer. now, he didn't order beer, he ordered apple cider. when the waitress came back, he told her that he had requested apple cider and she agreed that it was her mistake for not informing him that what he received was in fact beer, so he ordered plain water instead.

the antelope burger ($11.95) is very good...just know that it comes by itself, you have to pay an additional $1.00 if you want fries. the waitress actually told my partner that could pick a side, so we assumed that it came with the burger, not have to pay extra for it. another example of the lackluster service. i don't know, maybe the wait staff is told to do things such as this in order to improve sales, but judging by all the negative responses on sites such as urban spoon, not everybody is willing to give this place a second chance.

when the bill arrives, the apple cider beer is still listed ($6.00) . i don't bother to make a scene, bill gets paid, we leave, and i decide on what exactly i'm going to say in my review.

typically, when a mistake happens, the restaurant usually takes it off of the bill. he ordered apple cider, not apple cider beer. he took one sip and sent it back. clearly she made the mistake but didn't own up to it. i wonder if the waitstaff has to pay the restaurant if a customer returns something? that's about the only excuse that i can think of as to why waitstaff does things such as this.

the waitstaff at this place don't seem too interested in inquiring or offering the customers any additional information...it's like they're there doing their job and any additional duties (such as customer service) don't really matter.

our waitress was very nice and friendly. she did come by and refill my iced tea when she saw my empty glass. i just think that customers have to be on their toes at this place.

thefoodis good though, at least what we ordered--hill country sausage plate and the antelope burger. the atmosphere was nice and friendly--if you go, sit outside and watch the ducks across the street. the only negative of sitting outdoors are the flies.

great for tourists. as a tourist, this was a great place to try in boerne. theirfoodis awesome and an unusual variety - sausage plates, philly cheese steaks and thai lettuce wraps, for example.
i'd love to have had the chance to eat there twice to try a few other things. lots of flavor. the chorizo nachos app was great too!

a gaggle of brews. don't dodge this duck if you happen to be in boerne. duck in and have one of their money micro-brews (pardon my fieri-ness). the brew master here is definitely no quack when it comes to his craft. ask nicely and he may agree to give you a tour of the brewery in back of the restaurant.

be prepared to park down the street as this little chalet can get over-run with a gaggle of patrons (sorry-that's a goosey pun). o.k., o.k.. i'll stop the daffy nonsense and finish the short review

thefoodhas some high points in a couple of dishes, but largely average barfoodwith some eclectic entries like grilled cinnamon chipotle trout and thai lettuce wraps. however, i'd rather make my visit here about the beer and the reason to pass my buck at the duck.

avoid. mediocre food. the fries were limp and barely warm. the fish was hard to cut. the burgers were decent.

the service was atrocious. after ordering, we waited for over an hour while watching all the customers around us being served quickly. other customers came, ate, and left while we were waiting. we did notice that the staff and all the other customers were white. we suspect this may just not be a good place for brown people to eat. everyone else appeared to get service andfoodmuch quicker than us. we rarely saw our waitress. we had to get our own to go containers and hunt her down in order to pay. we will not be dining here again.

the art on the walls was cool. not worth a visit though, especially not if you're brown.

use to be my fav!. for a long time, dodging duck was my go-to place in boerne. great salads, great fish, great steak, great pretzels & definitely great potato salad. the last few trips changed that for me. they've changed their menu a little bit, and not for the good... the quality of thefoodisn't as good, the service has gotten worse, and the last waitress we had was just down right rude. my husband and i ordered pecan pie, it came in a mason jar and was about $10. it apparently had some time of liquor in it, that failed to cook off and the entire thing tasted like a straight shot. very disappointing. i've since move from boerne and i might venture in on a visit, but it's unlikely.
