food was excellent...service, well.... went to the dodging duck brewhaus on friday afternoon.
staff seemed friendly, even though i'm a "brown" person, i was called 'sir' so i doubt there are any raging racists working here, unless they have the evening shift. i don't know what the circumstances surrounding the other "non-whites" feeling "profiled" were at this place, but i didn't pick up that vibe.
the one odd thing that i did pick up though was the waitstaff's indifference. my partner and i ordered our drinks--i ordered iced tea, my partner ordered apple cider. when the drinks arrived, i got my iced tea, and my partner received an apple cider beer. now, he didn't order beer, he ordered apple cider. when the waitress came back, he told her that he had requested apple cider and she agreed that it was her mistake for not informing him that what he received was in fact beer, so he ordered plain water instead.
the antelope burger ($11.95) is very good...just know that it comes by itself, you have to pay an additional $1.00 if you want fries. the waitress actually told my partner that could pick a side, so we assumed that it came with the burger, not have to pay extra for it. another example of the lackluster service. i don't know, maybe the wait staff is told to do things such as this in order to improve sales, but judging by all the negative responses on sites such as urban spoon, not everybody is willing to give this place a second chance.
when the bill arrives, the apple cider beer is still listed ($6.00) . i don't bother to make a scene, bill gets paid, we leave, and i decide on what exactly i'm going to say in my review.
typically, when a mistake happens, the restaurant usually takes it off of the bill. he ordered apple cider, not apple cider beer. he took one sip and sent it back. clearly she made the mistake but didn't own up to it. i wonder if the waitstaff has to pay the restaurant if a customer returns something? that's about the only excuse that i can think of as to why waitstaff does things such as this.
the waitstaff at this place don't seem too interested in inquiring or offering the customers any additional information...it's like they're there doing their job and any additional duties (such as customer service) don't really matter.
our waitress was very nice and friendly. she did come by and refill my iced tea when she saw my empty glass. i just think that customers have to be on their toes at this place.
thefoodis good though, at least what we ordered--hill country sausage plate and the antelope burger. the atmosphere was nice and friendly--if you go, sit outside and watch the ducks across the street. the only negative of sitting outdoors are the flies.
