great location on the main street, and close-ish to the beach.
loads of indoor and outdoor seating, the restaurant has a gourmet deli off to the side as well.
i like the interior design and the feel of the restaurant, like being transportedbackto italy.

food - the pizza is traditional thin crust style as well, cooked in a wood fired oven. there is plenty of delicious combinations. it does get oily and soggy towards the centre though.
coffee is strong, the beans have a nice robust flavour and the milk is foamed well.

service - now the serious downside is the service. when you walk in, you're hardly greeted at all. people are walkingbackand forth without an acknowledgement. do you think i like standing here for nothing? the managers have a serious air of arrogance about them, and the service is inattentive. maybe this is the authentic italian experience, or maybe they have something against asians, but i've experienced this two times already.

a little slice of carlton in mornington.. i dined at d.o.c on sunday with my folks, and i must add how pleased i was at not only with the food but the service as well. the host was most accommodating with our needs. the service was a little choppy at times due to the venue being full but still attentive without being in your face. i moved away from rosebud a while ago to start working in melbourne's hospitality scene due to the lack of "real quality" on the peninsula at the time but this sundays lunch was a welcome surprise. the three of us shared the zucchini flower pizza special, the soppressa pizza with provolone, pesto and olives and then finished with the 5 cheese selection. the small wine list was nice my mother enjoyed the soave and the montepulciano went nicely to my head, but the barolo was a star regardless of its price tag. its a great change to have a "city" quality venue in a town of over priced main stays eg -"the rocks" that dosent break the bank. the old's loved it, especially the mini market of produce and cheese. it was also the first time they tried zucchini flower's. so in rapping this review up a great thank you for making my family's day, the worst part was goingbackhome to the city lol. i have also dined at the carlton venue as well.

coffee at d.o.c.. i haven't been to doc for some time. the last time i went i asked the waiter did they have full cream milk for my coffee and could he ensure that this was used in the coffee - low fat milk affects my digestive system. he assured me doc had full cream milk. when the coffee came, it clearly had low-fat milk. when i challenged the waiter he agreed they only used low-fat milk, but what was the difference anyway!! he also said it was a policy of lavazza to only have low-fat (or soy milk) with their coffee. his attitude was pretty much endorsed by the manager. i don't like being lied to and will never gobackto doc.

worst experience ever!  when we rang to book for 6 we were told to leave our credit card details because if we didn't turn up they would automatically take 20% of what would have been our estimated bill. i'm sure consumer affairs would like to know about this arrangement!  i ordered the vegetarian lasagna which said seasonal vegetables, it was over cooked and tasteless done in white sauce with a few lumps of carrots and a large handful of rocket on top.  no tomatoes or other vegetables in sight.  it was inedible and cost $24. my husband ordered the tiger prawn pizza which cost $29.  he got 6 prawns, he said the pizza was tasteless, the tomato base had no flavor.  we were bitterly disappointed and wont be goingbackor recommending the venue to any of our friends. over priced and over rated!

i'm actually so disappointed that i'm leaving this review because my past experiences of doc mornington and doc in carlton have been great both in terms of food and service, but yesterday was a completely different story. i walked into doc with my mother at about 1.30pm to celebrate a job offer i had just received, we stood at the counter next to the sign that says 'please wait to be seated'. there were plenty of vacant tables inside and outside on the terrace. there were two ladies behind the counter chatting amongst themselves who did not acknowledge us at all, i thought that was rude but continued waiting anyway. another 5 minutes went by when we thought one of the wait staff was finally approaching us but he made eye contact briefly, looked away and started having a laugh and a chat with the ladies behind the counter in front of us. upon realising we were being blatantly ignored by the staff we left and had lunch across the street at boyz 4 breakie where the service and food were amazing but not what we wanted when we had doc in mind and didn't quite get the bad taste of the rudeness their staff left in our mouths. like i said, all previous experiences with doc have been great and i was really looking forward to dining here but i definitely won't be comingbackto be ignored like that again.

we drove all the way from sorrento to mornington when visiting the peninsula because i have been to their outlet in carlton and had a very good experience there. what a let down. it took about 10 minutes to finally have one of the wait staff coming to take our order and set up our table. this was after having many of them walking around, slowly cleaning other tables and chatting to each other. food is not worth it at all its high price. won't bebacknor recommend this place to anyone.

it was a cold saturday night on the peninsula, and we had escaped there yet again for the anzac day long weekend. after walking up and down the main street in mornington, we decided on doc. we had been there on a rainy afternoon years ago, pre-baby days, and thought we would have a go at it again.backthen there was like, 3 other people in the store on that rainy afternoon. that night in april, there was about 300.

i really enjoyed this place, pizza were excellent. one had this nice spicy salami on it that hit the spot and the tiger prawn pizza was awesome. really fresh meaty prawns and no skimping on them either. the base on the tiger prawn pizza could've been cooked a little more as it was slightly soggy but i imagine that was a one off. i enjoyed their list of italian craft beers o got one that had a name so long i'm not going to bother writing it, but very nice. it was a red saison ale. definitely want to getbackthere and have a bit more of there prosciutto and the other cured meats and mozzarellas. we got the antipasto platter as well k enjoyed the prosciutto and rock melon and the buffalo moozadell. not much in way of pastas would've enjoyed an orecchiette and broccoli rabe but what're ya gonna do. also want to try the goat cheese tiramisu. nice little spot i imagine if you get a seat outside on a nice summers day or night. bona fortuna.

great food. just like the doc stores in melbourne.

however, i wasn't a fan of the seating arrangement here. granted we didn't have a booking (2 people). we were seated on a long "communal" table next to others. we could hear the couple next to us' entire conversation.

14/9/16 update
camebackhere twice over a long weekend away with my husband. again i'm not a huge fan on the seating arrangement but i can't fault the food!
pizza is always superb. authentic italian pizza. antipasto is amazing. the black rice salad is to die for!

stick to the grocers
; this is great
! restaurant:don't order 'focaccia' $8.50 ...virtually a dry pizza base with a small dish of olive oil - ugh. the waiter was unhelpful when my two friends asked for something to accompany their order. after discussion one ordered 'some cheese' the other 'olives.' the cheese was a ball of bland mozzarella; dense and too much for one person to finish. we were shocked when charged $16. for the ball of cheese! fortunately the cashier deducted the price of the facaccia, the other friend paid $8.50 for her dry piece. to finish, two of us had coffee, the other 'aqua minerale' - she assumed she would be served a glass, but alas, a whole unopened bottle came at $8.00! reluctantly, the waiter only charged for the one small glass she had. i and one of us four girls had the vegetarian lasagne which was delicious ($18.00 no salad).sadly, we won't bebackas no one really seemed to care much
