best pizza. if you can get by the put on italian show by the waiters and focus on the pizza. for anyone that has been to italy well this is as close as you get the real thing. amazing pizza and all without a wood fire oven. it is not cheap but well worth it.

try the buffalo mozzerella and the espresso sorbet. a very authentic, modern italian! i am not a big pizza eater but i must admit i was tempted- they looked great. the winners for me were the buffalo mozzarella and the espresso sorbet. the pure white buffalo mozzarella was fresh, beautifully textured and had a subtle taste that married perfectly with the rocket, pear and sicilian pecorino salad. the espresso sorbet was also very fresh, full bodied and well presented. we sat in the main dining area and it was noisy- although i enjoyed the buzz, i would have preferred to sit in the table amoungst the veggies in the fresh produce/store side. the service from the all-male, all-italian waiters was efficient and charming. loved it.

what a shocker. we had previously attended at approx 4pm and found the service at best average
we then attended some weeks later at 4.30pm and was advised that pizzas were not being cooked between 4 and 5pm and was told to come back later which we did at about 5.15pm at this stage both the inside and outdoor dining areas only had 3 tables in use if you include ourselves we then waited 18mins for our order to be taken while sitting there we noticed many pizzas being taken to the front of the premises for takeaway orders when our 2 pizzas arrived some 45mins later our pizzas were burnt and almost inedible
we have told dozens of people about the crap service and the crap food
we wont be back obviously you dont need our dollar
the place is filled with wait staff who think that they are doing you a service by allowing you to eat there get over yourselves you are not that good and how other people think you are is quite beyond me

d.o.c. mornington. we made a reservation for 7 people for my daughters birthday 2 weeks in advance. when we arrived we noticed there were 2 empty large full length tables in the restaurant looking out the open doors across the deck (lovely, just what we were looking forward to!)...however!!....we were placed on a very skinny table propped at the back of the establishment between the deli case and grocery shelving and right next to the toilets!! i would think that having been 1 of only 3 groups that made a reservation for that day (which i observed in their reservations book when we arrived) we would have had a prime position reserved! isn't that why people make a reservation!! when we asked if we could be moved to a nicer table at the front of the restaurant we were told that there were none available. so we did not get to enjoy celebrating my daughter's birthday with a lovely view and alfresco style eating, instead we struggled to fit our meals on the skinny table and sat amongst the deli meat & groceries for 1 1/2 hours while we ate. during that whole time the 2 empty tables at the front of the restaurant were not used at all! very poor indeeed...next time i won't bother making a reservation....in fact sadly, i won't bother even returning to this restaurant!!!

rudest waiters on the peninsula!. waiters with attitude do not know how to interact with australian customers, urgent customer service training required.

my mornington sanctuary. it goes without saying that when i leave the business of the city and head down to my favorite beach-side town, i am all the more grateful that doc is there to sooth my cravings for great culture, food and coffee.

my girlfriend's and i, regular visitors, have almost worked our way through the whole menu and are yet to be disappointed.

the only let down is the inconsistent service, if you're not being doted on by a blushing italian stallion than you're in the corner crying out for service.

i highly recommend trying the sweet brucetta (breakfast/lunch menu), broccoli and pork sausage pizza, the antipesto platter, and biscotti.

beautiful true italian pizzas & dessert! omg. omg the dessert was was beautiful, i cannot get it out of my mine. truly italian, amazing food & wine & dessert. highly recommend this place!

italy comes to mornington. i disagree with all of the previous reviews about sub-standard service and arrogant wait staff at doc mornington. i really think this is a cultural issue at play here folks. i am italian and have been to italy, i know the attitude can come across as rude and short but i think us aussies just don't understand the "italian way". if you want a snobby, sugar-coated, pomp and ceremony dining then go to buckingham palace!

seriously people, you need to get out more and really understand and appreciate the italo/european attitudes/culture! yeah sure some of them can come across as d&g wannabe models but hey they are true to their italian roots as you can get and it is this is why we love doc and why we always keep going back for more and more! some items on the menu may seem a tad pricey but nothing more than you would expect to pay elsewhere for the same thing (which you won't find anywhere else in melbourne mind you!) my only gripe is why doc wasn't here 20 years ago!

doc mornington is the quintessential italian pizzeria/trattoria, the staff, the ambiance and the décor make it truly like nothing else in melbourne and certainly nothing like the mediocrity that is often served up in carlton. as far as we are concerned doc lives up to exactly its name: denominazione di origine controllata

hate it!. horrible staff, makes you feel guilty for sharing food and they make you feel like you have to keep ordering more, in the end, i ate 3 slices of pizza and a small scoop of salad and it cost me $45.00 worst night out yet, very overated

always good. food fresh, simple and consistent. salumi and cheese boards our go-to dishes. never had a problem with service....as so many others seem to have had.

was very keen to go to d.o.c after hearing good reviews. tried to book in on a friday night and was told was fully booked, tried for the saturday and was told that they only take big group bookings. showed up and was told a 40min wait. we left our name and number to be called, double checked that they would call us when a table would be free and they never did. not very impressed. an hour and a half later we went somewhere else...

it could be so good - but its not. once the tourist travelers leave town the locals wont put up with the poor service and arrogance. got asked to move table so more people could sit on our table. servcie was slow and you had to fight to get attention.

"a great night". very impressed. i have recently come back from a trip to italy and was seeking to find authentic italian pizza! well i found the place,what an experience i had, must say, thought i was back in italy. i found the service to be excellent and the food to really have that special touch of love added to it. i will be coming back. thankyou for the great night.

the 'vibe' is back !!!. went in the other night. what a change!! . the vibe is back.
great atmosphere, families and friends relaxed and enjoying the consistenly superb italian cuisine.

it feels like the staff are re-engergized and totally focused on customer service and detail to everyones needs.
it was fun, bustling and not intimidating to anyone.
we all came out feeling like we had a special experience.
you even got a big smile with the pizza!!!
well done doc boys, your back. keep up the good vibe!!
