don't get it. started out badly with a very self important host. he was studying some papers as i walked up. i stood there a moment waiting for him to acknowledge me, and when he didn't i went to tell him our info. he interrupted me, saying coldly, " i'll be with you in a minute." he then continued to study his papers. he finally took down our name never looking up from his paperwork.
we were seated and served our drinks and their delicious corn fritters, which we munched happily while looking at the menu. despite me telling the waitress we had never been there, she offered no help explaining the specials or the menu at all. this was doubly disappointing when i heard the waiter at the next table helpfully explaining everything on the menu. i overheard him saying the "red" shrimp were really good right now, so decided on those. well, guess what? they are out of the one item i finally decide on...the "medium" red shrimp special. the waitress said, "but really the large reds are about the same size as the medium if you want to get those." what? did you just tell me you're ripping people off? did i hear that right? are you offering me the large for the medium price? no, she obviously expects me to pay three dollars more for the large, which are really medium shrimp.
flustered, i finally decide on the rock shrimp which they are famous for, a salad, and cole slaw. the salad was nice. the cole slaw had a funny aftertaste that i couldn't put my finger on. i only ate three bites of it. the shrimp were something i had never had. they were pretty good, but nothing i would race back to have again.
another strike was we were seated near one of the bars which was a gathering place for the employees, and we had to listen to them complain about who had more tables, how they weren't turning tables fast enough, and various other grievances while we ate.
i left this restaurant wholly unsatisfied.
