southern seafood - simple and delicious. local seafood, great quantity, fair price,goodservice, family oriented;
...
fresh hot corn fritters awaited us as we sat down. the broiled rock shrimp are not to be missed. the cheese grits are just the way mother used to make them; if you are not southern you won't understand that. two house brand hot sauces - habanero and dixie datil - were both tasty, a welcome alternative to texas pete.
...
tracy delivered excellent service and updated us on local culture. we were seated in 30 minutes on memorial day weekend, not bad! parking was easy, facilities clean, restrooms nice, noise level good.
...
i can understand why people drive hours out of the way to get here.

don't get it. started out badly with a very self important host. he was studying some papers as i walked up. i stood there a moment waiting for him to acknowledge me, and when he didn't i went to tell him our info. he interrupted me, saying coldly, " i'll be with you in a minute." he then continued to study his papers. he finally took down our name never looking up from his paperwork.
we were seated and served our drinks and their delicious corn fritters, which we munched happily while looking at the menu. despite me telling the waitress we had never been there, she offered no help explaining the specials or the menu at all. this was doubly disappointing when i heard the waiter at the next table helpfully explaining everything on the menu. i overheard him saying the "red" shrimp were reallygoodright now, so decided on those. well, guess what? they are out of the one item i finally decide on...the "medium" red shrimp special. the waitress said, "but really the large reds are about the same size as the medium if you want to get those." what? did you just tell me you're ripping people off? did i hear that right? are you offering me the large for the medium price? no, she obviously expects me to pay three dollars more for the large, which are really medium shrimp.
flustered, i finally decide on the rock shrimp which they are famous for, a salad, and cole slaw. the salad was nice. the cole slaw had a funny aftertaste that i couldn't put my finger on. i only ate three bites of it. the shrimp were something i had never had. they were pretty good, but nothing i would race back to have again.
another strike was we were seated near one of the bars which was a gathering place for the employees, and we had to listen to them complain about who had more tables, how they weren't turning tables fast enough, and various other grievances while we ate.
i left this restaurant wholly unsatisfied.

reallygoodexperience. the food here is really good. the corn fritters are like an insane marriage between a funnel cake and a corn fritter with the powdered sugar on top; just great stuff. i was surprised in the choice of ingredient usage in some applications, but by and large service and food are recommended.goodhearty chowder and prettygoodfried shrimp for the atlantic side of things.

visiting from texas and found this restaurant on google. reviews seemedgoodso we stopped for a very late lunch. wait was 20 minutes on a tuesday afternoon at almost 3pm. our waitress was pleasant and prompt and kept our water full. the food however was a little disappointing. google had a 4+ rating so my expectations were a bit higher. we ordered the dixie spectacular. sadly it was not spectacular. we got the broiled rock shrimp and they were the only thing that was spectacular on the plate. the crab and the lobster were both way overcooked and difficult to shell. we went ahead and had the scallops fried, but they were not hot and crispy, but a bit on the soggy side. not sure what other people expect out of their seafood to give it such high reviews, but i make better crab at lobster at home than i experienced here. i give it a 2.5 only because the staff was friendly, our waitress wasgoodand the rock shrimp was very good. the rest was a bit ho hum and below average in my book.

it's been about 40+ years since i've been there...brings backgoodmemories and some things remain the same. we went for lunch...seated pretty quick...very busy with many locals. the corn fritters are to die for and they come hot and tasty for you to enjoy while looking at the menu. the server (justin) was verygoodand efficient. the clam strips and fried catfish...along with great soups set up for a great lunch. give it a whirl and enjoy a florida institution. in addition, the bathrooms were sparkling clean

one word to describe it is ... fabulous!! we had the most incredible server by the name of jessica a.
she has been working at the restaurant several years and she was very knowledgeable about all the food items on the menu and how they are prepared. after asking recommendations on several things we ended up with the ruby reds broiled with key west seasoning, grits and we upgraded to the house salad "all the way" with everything on it. we also wanted to try the rock shrimp and we were able to purchase "1" just to try it. also incredible! i can't say enoughgoodthings about this restaurant and of course jessica a. who made our dining experience 10 times better. thank you dixie crossroads and jessica a. for a wonderful birthday dinner!!

impeccable service with a smile andgoodfood. i arrived on tuesday night at around 6:30 pm. it was raining and the parking lot directly across street from the main entrance was flooded a bit. the outside of the building is decorated with a very large mural the cover the entire length of the building. there is also a window which i later discovered was a takeout window directly to the right of the main entrance. the entrance itself is nicely covered, so the rain outside was not much of a hindrance.

as i walked in, the lobby contained assorted local magazines and newspapers in the large corridor with bench seats on both sides. the overall the core of the place is a little dated, with wood slat walls and all of the bench/booth tables made out of wood as well. at least the seats have nice padding.

my server kim quickly greeted me with a smile. she was very product knowledgeable and recommended the special to me which was royal red shrimp. she described them as the sweetest, tenderest shrimp ever. apparently the shrimp come from deep in the atlantic ocean at 1200 feet! it was a dozen shrimp served with hot butter. i got them broiled, also on her recommendation. the dinner comes with two sides. i chose cheese grits, agoodsouthern favorite, and a side salad with balsamic dressing for a dollar extra. while i was deciding on what i wanted to drink, i asked for a glass of water and she returned with that and a complementary small basket, overfilled with powdered sugar covered, deep-fried corn nuggets. i tried one, it was pretty good, but i’ve always been a little skittish having corn for dessert. i mean i get the concept and the batter part is great, but having actual corn pieces in a “pastry” just seems funny to me, even in cornbread, powdered sugar or not.

after hearing the selections of draft beers which were all domestics, and not thegoodkind, i opted for a bottle of sam adams oktoberfest to accompany my meal. she returned very quickly with my salad and my beer. my beer was served with an ice cold pint glass. the salad was quite large and contained eggs, bacon, croutons, cucumbers, and iceberg lettuce. the dressing i was told was ken’s steakhouse dressing. the dressing was quitegoodand the eggs and bacon seemed fresh however the lettuce was wilted. noticing something was wrong kim was quick to the spot, apologizing as she took it away. only a minute or two passed and she brought out my entrée. the shrimp were laid out in a circular pattern around a small cup of drawn butter. the presentation itself was a very good. my initial thought was that they could have used a small porcelain ramekin for the butter instead of plastic. and the butter was actually covered with a small cardboard french fry basket. as a result it didn’t “feel” like it should be worth $18. the side of cheese grits was quite ample, served in a large porcelain boat. having been raised in the south i prefer my grits with salt, pepper and butter. having high hopes, i dove into them first. i found these grits to be creamy, cheesy, and with salt-and-pepper, perfect. after about three bites i received my salad again, minus any dressing. visibly this salad even looked better than the first one. and after i got a replacement side dish again plastic, of balsamic it was quite nice as well. enough about the side items, now let’s talk about that shrimp. i decided this was probably a hands-on deal since they left the tails on and i made use of that drawn butter. just like kim, the server stated these are simply the sweetest shrimp ever! with the drawn butter they even have somewhat of a lobster feel, divine. it took all the strict constraint that i had in order to not simply devour them in seconds. yes, they were that good.

along the way kim checked on me as agoodserver should. in the end, she suggested three or four desserts and after some mulling, i decided on the fresh key lime pie made in merritt island. when it arrived, my immediate thought was that it was quite a small piece. it was presented on a small white plate and it was topped with what was obviously canned whipped cream. something smelled a little odd about this pie though and i later decided it was the whipped cream which i did not eat. the pie itself was properly tart and had a graham cracker crust that was just right but after two bites i could not get past that smell. it was a shame really but kim handled it with the utmost professionalism whisking away and telling me she would take care of it immediately. while i waited for my check and finished my beer, i glanced around and noticed there was lots of dust on the wood at the end of my booth. i was very glad i had finished eating as seeing “dust bunnies” is not very encouraging while dining out. since kim seem like she really cared about her workplace i decided to let her in on my discovery. she said that they were in the middle of doing a spot clean of the restaurant and had not gotten to the area that i was in which was, at the front of the restaurant.
overall i rate this place above average. the food was quitegoodand even those problem areas were quickly corrected. the service was quite impeccable. kim was knowledgeable, friendly, caring, and professional clearly an asset to this company. i would recommend her on your visit without question. when the bill came i was pleasantly surprised. bottled beer or at least the sam adams oktoberfest that i had ordered was only five dollars! so total meal cost was $25.43. i will definitely return.

excellent. we drive two hours each way to go to dixie crossroads for special occassions. we also make it a point to stop whenever driving past the titusville exit. you cannot get better rock shrimp anywhere. the special offering of red shrimp are also incredibly tasty and tender. i tried the bacon wrapped shrimp and coconut shrimp to sample something different for a change and could not believe how amazing they were. the sides are nothing too exciting, but really who cares when you more perfect shrimp and corn fritters than you can handle. we also recently had the best waitress serving our party of 8 i have had at a restaurant in a very long time. she gave us tips to order menu items to get the combinations we really wanted and was right on top of our drink refills and every extra request we threw at her. i wish service was remotely thisgoodat other restaurants. it left such agoodimpression, we are looking for any other little extra special occassion to make another road trip soon.

bummer!. this is my third, and probably final time to eat here. we had an early dinner, or late lunch here last week. the wait staff seemed 3 stooges like. dropping stuff off of trays, running into each other, forgetting what to do, to who, and when. the whole place was desolate, which i thought would be agoodthing, i remember going there years ago, when you had to wait to get in the door.

i realize that it has been years, but how does all you can eat shrimp,, go from 9.00 to 50.00 especially in hard times for all? i had the lobster, yikes! they forgot to bring one of the sides, and we never even bothered to tell them. the food is edible, but just. when one goes to a restaurant of this long of a standing, you expect the best, not mediocre!

an amazing florida experience. it had been 5 years since i left florida and probably longer since i came to dixie. i was back in dec craving some fresh fla seafood so i swung by for lunch.

the first thing i noticed was that the place had obviously undergone an extensive renovation. everything looked new while retaining that comfortable small town family seafood environment.

we are sat right away by the friendly staff with a view of a large fish pond and fountain. after getting drinks, the server approached us and recommended the smoked oyster appetizer, which we accepted. then she took our order.

we started with the smoked oysters, which were a great recommendation! they came out piping hot in the half shell with a melted garlic parmesan topping. they didn't last long before salads came out. lettuce was cool and crisp and the salads were topped with cherry tomatoes, bacon, onion, cheese and hard boiled egg. it was like a mini cobb salad.

next were the entrees. now i have been all over the world, had a lot of seafood and let me tell you... there is no substitute for fresh fla seafood! i had 3 dozen rock shrimp, half broiled and half fried and my friend had the mahi sandwich. the rock shrimp were better than lobster! they taste similar but rock shrimp are a little sweeter. there was silence over our table for at least 10 min after the food got there. it was that good! i cant comment on any of the deserts because i felt like i was going to burst close to the end.

it did seem a little pricy at first but after seeing how much food we got for what we paid i felt like it was agooddeal. next time i might not order so much.

i would highly recommend dixie crossroads. the only recommendation i have is that they open a place in los angeles.

went an hour out of our way during our vacation for the food and all i can say is amazing!! it is well worth the trip. the staff is friendly and really made it feel like home. our waitress rosa marie was amazing and took extra care of us. she is probably the best waitress we have ever had at any restaurant. we just had to get our picture taken with her. the portions are huge and it is well worth the price you pay. in fact, the seafood by us in massachusetts cost more, give you less, and the quality is not asgoodfor the money you pay. i know a couple years ago we had the royal red shrimp and i have never had a shrimp like this any where. we are going to be sure to make another stop by next time we are in florida. i highly recommend anyone to eat here!! we also left with a christmas ornament of a rock shrimp that we cannot wait to put on our tree!!!! thanks clay!

this restaurant used to be reallygoodhowever it has come a long way down. the rock shrimp were so small you could hardly find them. the cheese grits had no taste and no cheese. the drink was all tonic. the only thing that has gone up is the price. it is absolutely not worth what they are now charging. been going there over 25 years and this will be my last trip.
