southern seafood - simple and delicious. local seafood, great quantity, fair price, good service, family oriented;
...
fresh hot corn fritters awaited us as we sat down. the broiled rock shrimp are not to be missed. the cheese grits are just the way mother used to make them; if you are not southern you won't understand that. two house brand hot sauces - habanero anddixiedatil - were both tasty, a welcome alternative to texas pete.
...
tracy delivered excellent service and updated us on local culture. we were seated in 30 minutes on memorial day weekend, not bad! parking was easy, facilities clean, restrooms nice, noise level good.
...
i can understand why people drive hours out of the way to get here.

the menu features local shrimp and fish from port canaveral and ranges from sandwiches and fried baskets to  big seafood combos.dixiecrossroads is a very family oriented restaurant with some of that down home southern hospitality that is great for a big family dinner or just a quick bite. their  claim to fame is the rock shrimp: this shrimp-family member resembles a miniature lobster and is wild-caught. the name comes from the thick, rock-hard shells that can be difficult to remove by hand. today the shrimp shells (and heads)

visiting from texas and found this restaurant on google. reviews seemed good so we stopped for a very late lunch. wait was 20 minutes on a tuesday afternoon at almost 3pm. our waitress was pleasant and prompt and kept our water full. the food however was a little disappointing. google had a 4+ rating so my expectations were a bit higher. we ordered thedixiespectacular. sadly it was not spectacular. we got the broiled rock shrimp and they were the only thing that was spectacular on the plate. the crab and the lobster were both way overcooked and difficult to shell. we went ahead and had the scallops fried, but they were not hot and crispy, but a bit on the soggy side. not sure what other people expect out of their seafood to give it such high reviews, but i make better crab at lobster at home than i experienced here. i give it a 2.5 only because the staff was friendly, our waitress was good and the rock shrimp was very good. the rest was a bit ho hum and below average in my book.

we had the pleasure of lunch atdixiecrossroads las summer after fishing the famous mosquito lagoon. the rock shrimp are unbelievable, and i had never even heard of them before. this was a step back in time to when small businesses brought great offerings and service. now, how do i get from texas all the way back to florida so i can eat there again...

one word to describe it is ... fabulous!! we had the most incredible server by the name of jessica a.
she has been working at the restaurant several years and she was very knowledgeable about all the food items on the menu and how they are prepared. after asking recommendations on several things we ended up with the ruby reds broiled with key west seasoning, grits and we upgraded to the house salad "all the way" with everything on it. we also wanted to try the rock shrimp and we were able to purchase "1" just to try it. also incredible! i can't say enough good things about this restaurant and of course jessica a. who made our dining experience 10 times better. thank youdixiecrossroads and jessica a. for a wonderful birthday dinner!!

a regular stop for us. whenever we are in the area, we try to eat atdixiecrossroads and we have not been disappointed. this time was no exception. we came in for lunch around 11:30am on a thursday and were quickly seated and a server was immediately available. at dinner or on weekends, there is often a wait.
while we munched on the free corn fritters, which are great, we reviewed the menu and ordered. they had royal red shrimp as a special, so i had them breaded in a basket with the soup of the day, cajun shrimp. the soup was much like a gumbo and very good. the shrimp were wonderful. my wife had the chicken breast dinner and found it perfectly cooked and juicy. the service was great, as usual. we will be back.

diner. long years ago when i first visiteddixiecrossroads the food was great. the past few visits have been extremely disappointing!! the food is overcooked and the overall food quality seems to be less than good. the corn fritters are still awesome and the service and atmosphere is still great. but unfortunately the food is almost rated poor !! no more long drives for below average food for me. also, i purchased their $23.00 46 ounce margarita with souvenir glass. it was mostly ice and when i checked the actual size, it was only 40 oz !!! rip off !! we had a group of 10 people who will not be returning !! fix your food soon !!!

a very average experience.dixiecrossroads is one of those places you just have to go to. the rock shrimp are great, however, they give you melted margarine to dip them in. luckily i questioned it & the waitress was wiling to bring me some real butter.... i had to ask what the cheese grits were supposed to taste like. they did not taste remotely like cheese. they tasted like nasty, dirty dishpan water & they were very watery to boot. the french fries were battered & horrible, the soup was also reminiscent of dirty water & canned food. i would go back for the shrimp, but i will have to remember to request real butter & be very choosy about sides. the cole slaw was decent & fresh, at least. i also would not recommend this restaurant to anyone... based on the overall quality of what they serve, i would not want to be responsible for someone's potentially unenjoyable meal.

excellent. we drive two hours each way to go todixiecrossroads for special occassions. we also make it a point to stop whenever driving past the titusville exit. you cannot get better rock shrimp anywhere. the special offering of red shrimp are also incredibly tasty and tender. i tried the bacon wrapped shrimp and coconut shrimp to sample something different for a change and could not believe how amazing they were. the sides are nothing too exciting, but really who cares when you more perfect shrimp and corn fritters than you can handle. we also recently had the best waitress serving our party of 8 i have had at a restaurant in a very long time. she gave us tips to order menu items to get the combinations we really wanted and was right on top of our drink refills and every extra request we threw at her. i wish service was remotely this good at other restaurants. it left such a good impression, we are looking for any other little extra special occassion to make another road trip soon.

tourist trap foodies beware. as lifelong resident of the gulf coast and married to a 5 star chef who's forte is cajun / creole i believe i know seafood.dixiecrossroads is way overpriced for a poor presentation. i ordered the shrimp special that included a selection of rock shrimp, royal reds, white and brown. for $25 the shrimp were way too small for a dinner service of this price. the reds were 51/60 count size(small), whites were 36/40 (medium large but were questionable as local) browns were a sorry 41/50 count and as the biggest insult the rock were 41/50. i thought that this was their biggest draw. on the plus side they were broiled and seasoned okay. i had the cheese grits and vegetables as a side. i've had better grits at waffle house and the cheese part seemed to be just food coloring. after one bite as a true southerner i politely pushed it far away. the vegetables were squash and zucchini which were actually steamed just right but had little seasoning. unfortunately the vegetables were served in a plastic bag in a bowl cafeteria style. my father had the fried shrimp basket which pales to roadside stands in lower alabama and the coleslaw is on walmart level. i feared to order dessert as the keylime pie might just end up being straight out of the box from sysco.
maybe i just caught them on an off night but i seriously doubt it. and to all of those who gave this place a great review .......really?

an amazing florida experience. it had been 5 years since i left florida and probably longer since i came to dixie. i was back in dec craving some fresh fla seafood so i swung by for lunch.

the first thing i noticed was that the place had obviously undergone an extensive renovation. everything looked new while retaining that comfortable small town family seafood environment.

we are sat right away by the friendly staff with a view of a large fish pond and fountain. after getting drinks, the server approached us and recommended the smoked oyster appetizer, which we accepted. then she took our order.

we started with the smoked oysters, which were a great recommendation! they came out piping hot in the half shell with a melted garlic parmesan topping. they didn't last long before salads came out. lettuce was cool and crisp and the salads were topped with cherry tomatoes, bacon, onion, cheese and hard boiled egg. it was like a mini cobb salad.

next were the entrees. now i have been all over the world, had a lot of seafood and let me tell you... there is no substitute for fresh fla seafood! i had 3 dozen rock shrimp, half broiled and half fried and my friend had the mahi sandwich. the rock shrimp were better than lobster! they taste similar but rock shrimp are a little sweeter. there was silence over our table for at least 10 min after the food got there. it was that good! i cant comment on any of the deserts because i felt like i was going to burst close to the end.

it did seem a little pricy at first but after seeing how much food we got for what we paid i felt like it was a good deal. next time i might not order so much.

i would highly recommenddixiecrossroads. the only recommendation i have is that they open a place in los angeles.
