overrated and over priced. i didn't like choosingmeatby the piece. their slaw is excellent. they could use plates instead of paper to eat off of. i know, it's typical of bbq restaurants in the area. you get better food and better bargain at mcbee's.

international house of pork. coopers is good. they have the best pork loin and pork ribs on earth.

all of the well known bbq places have their highlights....at coopers it is anything pork.

the pork ribs are so good that i forgive them for poisoning me last year. i looked at those beans and i saw that froth floating on top....and i knew better....but i ate them anyway. sick as a dog.

i've learned my lesson with all bbq places. go only on busy days. bbq is a very difficult menu to do well without volume. themeatdries up and the beans go bad.....on the slow days.

but okay coopers....i still love you.

the food was inedible. i ordered lean brisket, potato salad & pinto beans. the brisket had so much fat and themeatleft an oil spill in my mouth. the beans were so salty. i had to pick up something else to eat on my way home.

save yourself a trip.

great bbq! i don’t know what it is about coopers bbq but themeatdoesn’t have that over smoked, over charred flavor. i get indigestion when eating smoked bbq at other establishments in new braunfels but for some reason i have never had that issue at coopers.

for that reason, the brisket with burnt ends are my favorite request!

brisket check list -. is ingrained in every bbq snob and central texas resident. numerous restaurants and prolific publications, not to mention back yard smoking experts, have made us all bbq geniuses.

i visited this eatery (again) last week. here is the results-

1. perfect smoke ring with beautiful color - check
2. crisp, dark flavor-able bark - check
3. moist (not dry) tendermeatwith a nice hint of smoke - check

beans, pickles & onions are included, all you can eat. loaves of sliced bread are randomly placed for convenience. no service, other than themeatand register people.

if you are paying $12.95 lb for bbq brisket, it better be good. this is good. in the past, i thought this eatery was expensive. a visit to blanco bbq last week solved that little concern.

cooper's, here or elsewhere, is one of the holy grail of bbq joints. try it and you will know why!

not impressed. i am much more fond of rudy's which is a stones throw away from cooper's. the menu is simplistic, however lacking variety. themeatwas okay, but nothing to write home about. for your time and money there are better options.

good bar b q--this is self service--meaning you. cooper’s old time pit bar b q has been around for quite some time however not in new braunfels. this location is on a by pass around new braunsfel hgy 337. they also have internet ordering on their web site. we entered the restaurant and the first thing to do is pick out yourmeator meats where then will take and weigh for the total price. up can add sides at the counter where you are getting the meats weighted. however today they had a special which was advertised as pork chop and baked potato for $10.99. i noticed pieces of pork lying on the grill. they appeared to have been cut from a pork loin and were boneless. i ordered the special and what was i served, a piece of the boneless loin and not a true pork chop. the piece was about 1 1⁄2 to 2 inches think and dipped in their sauce. the piece was very good as was the baked potatoes. others in the party had the “pork chop” as well and beef brisket and ribs. as long as this place has been in business i know they know the difference between a boneless piece of pork loin and a true pork chop. they can call it what they want however a true pork chop is not a piece of boneless pork loin. in spite of their confusion themeatwas good. i know someone will now comment that it is me that is incorrect and that the cut was from a loin that had been boned. give me a break friend as i was a butcher and cut and soldmeatfor years. you can pick up trimmings and bread at the bar. trimmings include a bowl of beans however i was the only one in the party who opted for the bowl of beans. onions and pickles are also on the condiment counter. by the way, those beans were included at no additional cost. there are loaves of bread scattered around and if you desire some bread help yourself. you eat at picnic type tables either indoors or outdoors depending upon the weather. you dispense your own drinks. and you clean your table and toss your own trash. there are no waiters to assist you. so the bottom line is that you pay full price and you do part of the work to get your food. kind of like checking yourself out at the grocery store and bagging your own groceries.

we just stopped for lunch, and wasted close to 50 bucks. i'm a brisket fanatic, and my 13 dollars worth ofmeat(little over a pound), was at least half fat. themeatworth eating tasted like someone spilled the salt onto it- and pretty tasteless otherwise. smoked apples were okay. my boyfriend had the turkey and pork ribs, with no complaints, but no compliments either. he did say the pecan cobbler made him "feel happy" when he was eating it. the customer service was also great. overall- not worth the money we spent...but the dog will be very happy with the leftovers.

yes, the do bbq. their sides are not great, but their bbq is for sure. be careful as they pick up whole pieces make sure you are gettingmeatand not fat, the fat does not taste as good as the meat. ask questions as well, the do bbq very well, but there often in confusion on how to navigate the line.

it was o.k.. this is a place that tries to do too much. they provide 13 meats and then also have a retail business selling dipping sauce, rub, etc. pricing is strange. consequently they don't focus on any particular cut ofmeatand shows in the texture and flavor of themeatthey serve. you have to pick out what you want first and then proceed to the register to find out what it will cost after they are weighed as most items are by the pound. this can led to an embarrassing surprise if you are ordering when you are very hungry. i thought the sausage was nice and spicy but everything else was just o.k. friend brought me here from austin to just show me the place. this is not the little hole in the wall place that i prefer but somewhat of a factory production set up. not a place that i will return to anytime soon.

from wisconsin. you can't get good bbq in wisconsin. i passed thru tx and met my buddy silent walker who lives in nb and he says coopers is the best.
when it came to brisket, he was right. we picked ourmeatright off the grill. the steak was too rare and tough for me. the ribs were just ok as well as the beans.
the service was excellent and i would stop there again.

best bbq ever!. ate at cooper's last night and i have to say this is my new favorite bbq joint. the beef ribs were huge and juicy, spiced to perfection, and just fell off the bone. we got sauce on the side but themeathere is so good (really it is!), i didn't even need (or want) the sauce. the brisket and sausage were amazing as well.
a lot of bbq joints do one or two sides really well (creamed corn at rudy's comes to mind) but i have to say that all the sides were perfect, and the beans (which i usually don't like at bbq places) were off the charts with flavor and better yet - all you care to eat.
do your taste buds a favor and the next time you're driving i-35 through new braunfels, tx (or are anywhere close like austin or san antonio) stop into cooper's for some unforgettable bbq.
