international house of pork. coopers is good. they have the best pork loin and pork ribs on earth.

all of the well known bbq places have their highlights....at coopers it is anything pork.

the pork ribs are sogoodthat i forgive them for poisoning me last year. i looked at those beans and i saw that froth floating on top....and i knew better....but i ate them anyway. sick as a dog.

i've learned my lesson with all bbq places. go only on busy days. bbq is a very difficult menu to do well without volume. the meat dries up and the beans go bad.....on the slow days.

but okay coopers....i still love you.

reallygoodbbq sold by the pound. the brisket was tender and juicy, with just the right amount of fat. sausage was delicious. i like the cole slaw and love the potato salad. sauce, beans, jalapeños, pickles, onion, and bread are all serve-yourself and complimentary. overall, a winner.

good tasty barbecue; reasonable price; verygoodsides; pristine facility; great management and waitstaff; a lot of people get extremely critical about texas barbecue... tough crowds indeed. day in and day out, coopers serves verygoodtraditional texas barbecue. the critics?? they probably don't know the difference between smoking with post oak or green mesquite. anyway, this is a great, traditional texas barbecue joint that is worth driving for a couple of hours to enjoy the experience. me, i've smoked over 1000 briskets and won a few competitions.... hey, coopers is serving up some outstanding barbecue! trust me on this... enjoy!

good bar b q--this is self service--meaning you. cooper’s old time pit bar b q has been around for quite some time however not in new braunfels. this location is on a by pass around new braunsfel hgy 337. they also have internet ordering on their web site. we entered the restaurant and the first thing to do is pick out your meat or meats where then will take and weigh for the total price. up can add sides at the counter where you are getting the meats weighted. however today they had a special which was advertised as pork chop and baked potato for $10.99. i noticed pieces of pork lying on the grill. they appeared to have been cut from a pork loin and were boneless. i ordered the special and what was i served, a piece of the boneless loin and not a true pork chop. the piece was about 1 1⁄2 to 2 inches think and dipped in their sauce. the piece was verygoodas was the baked potatoes. others in the party had the “pork chop” as well and beef brisket and ribs. as long as this place has been in business i know they know the difference between a boneless piece of pork loin and a true pork chop. they can call it what they want however a true pork chop is not a piece of boneless pork loin. in spite of their confusion the meat was good. i know someone will now comment that it is me that is incorrect and that the cut was from a loin that had been boned. give me a break friend as i was a butcher and cut and sold meat for years. you can pick up trimmings and bread at the bar. trimmings include a bowl of beans however i was the only one in the party who opted for the bowl of beans. onions and pickles are also on the condiment counter. by the way, those beans were included at no additional cost. there are loaves of bread scattered around and if you desire some bread help yourself. you eat at picnic type tables either indoors or outdoors depending upon the weather. you dispense your own drinks. and you clean your table and toss your own trash. there are no waiters to assist you. so the bottom line is that you pay full price and you do part of the work to get your food. kind of like checking yourself out at the grocery store and bagging your own groceries.

q loan required. no long dissertation or comparison for this review. you can find that in a number of places such as the texas monthly that will give you a review of the top bbq locations in texas. the long and the short of it is, this place hasgoodbull neck (my old uncle's term for meat). if you can't find a slice of brisket, a meaty beef rib, a smoked pork chop, or a sausage link that you like here, please do not pass go, do not collect $200, but do go back to new york city where you must be from.

the only issue i have, and it is not peculiar just to this place, is that a bbq meal, many times served on butcher paper, or paper or plastic plates and with plastic utensils, in a cavernous barn or a little old shack ought not to cost $20 dollars a person. yet with meats prices at $12 or more a lb. the bill for two at places like these is $30 to $40. i know someone is going to say, "then go to bill miller's if you don't like the price". that's an option, thank you, but with this mentality, how would you like to pay $50 or $60 a couple for your bbq meal . . . a distinct possibility when people vote with their wallets to continue an inflationary pattern. think about it. if you won't pay an inflated price, vendors cannot sell their product and will not continue the inflationary practice.

just some food for thought . . .

don't miss this gem. as we prepared to take a friend visiting from sweden to tour central texas he advised us that he was wanting to trygoodbarbeque.we were planning to take him tubing on the comal river and experience has taught us that a trip to new braunfels is always enhanced when we eat at coopers.the open pit cooking is great and the sidedishes simply add to the joy of eating there.we enjoyed ribs, sausage, chicken with beans, baked potato, potato salad and then blueberry cobbler..if there is a better meal in the hill country i do not know where.
coopers is old fashioned, relaxed ,family friendly and minutes from all the rivers in the new braufels area.i highly recommend a stop there.

doesn't live up to its reputation. coopers is a 2.5 on a 1 to 10 scale, 19 being the best. brisket was too fatty, ribs over done, sausage was plain. sides were bland, especially the beans!

if you wantgoodbbq head over to rudy's, only a few blocks away, but hundreds of miles in flavor and quality.

yes, the do bbq. their sides are not great, but their bbq is for sure. be careful as they pick up whole pieces make sure you are getting meat and not fat, the fat does not taste asgoodas the meat. ask questions as well, the do bbq very well, but there often in confusion on how to navigate the line.

from wisconsin. you can't getgoodbbq in wisconsin. i passed thru tx and met my buddy silent walker who lives in nb and he says coopers is the best.
when it came to brisket, he was right. we picked our meat right off the grill. the steak was too rare and tough for me. the ribs were just ok as well as the beans.
the service was excellent and i would stop there again.

best bbq ever!. ate at cooper's last night and i have to say this is my new favorite bbq joint. the beef ribs were huge and juicy, spiced to perfection, and just fell off the bone. we got sauce on the side but the meat here is sogood(really it is!), i didn't even need (or want) the sauce. the brisket and sausage were amazing as well.
a lot of bbq joints do one or two sides really well (creamed corn at rudy's comes to mind) but i have to say that all the sides were perfect, and the beans (which i usually don't like at bbq places) were off the charts with flavor and better yet - all you care to eat.
do your taste buds a favor and the next time you're driving i-35 through new braunfels, tx (or are anywhere close like austin or san antonio) stop into cooper's for some unforgettable bbq.

birds of a feather. i can only trust that this location is more of the same from thegoodfolks in mason. while i have yet to stop by the nb pit, im sure it's asgoodas the junction and mason locations. you can argue best barbecue till the brisket comes home, but everyone has their favorites (lum's, junction) =] cooper's is definitely top tier.
