cooper's old-time pit bar-b-que

it was o.k.. this is a place that tries to do too much. they provide 13 meats and then also have a retail business selling dipping sauce, rub, etc. pricing is strange. consequently they don't focus on any particular cut of meat and shows in the texture and flavor of the meat they serve. you have to pick out what you want first and then proceed to the register to find out what it will cost after they are weighed as most items are by the pound. this can led to an embarrassing surprise if you are ordering when you are very hungry. i thought the sausage was nice and spicy but everything else was just o.k. friend brought me here from austin to just show me the place. this is not the little hole in the wall place that i prefer but somewhat of a factory production set up. not a place that i will return to anytime soon.

the food here used to be really good, but today it was awful!! the ribs were burned to a crisp, the chicken was bloody, and the brisket was so full of fat that it looked like gelatin! not to mention that the manager was completely rude to my family and me. i've never been treated so bad at a restaurant before!! cooper's is definitely going downhill.

from wisconsin. you can't get good bbq in wisconsin. i passed thru tx and met my buddy silent walker who lives in nb and he says coopers is the best.
when it came to brisket, he was right. we picked our meat right off the grill. the steak was too rare and tough for me. the ribs were just ok as well as the beans.
the service was excellent and i would stop there again.

if you don't love it, you don't know pit bar-b-que. being a child of the 1950's rised in dallas i had the best of real pit bar-b-que, so i believe i know what this should be like and cooper's old time pit is still the best of the rest who try to sell slow smoked meats. the slogan cook it low and slow and use a dry rub over an open oak and mesquite wood fired pit is the only way to get that great taste. as my great uncle alvie, who ran a pit bar-b-que business for 35 years used to say "it not what you cook but it's how you cook in the pit" that's what makes it happen, enough said?

eat bar-b-que here first!. ok folks this place is too nice and clean to have bar-b-que this great. cooper's in one man's opinion is the way pit bar-b-q should always be. their secret is their rub which you can buy there and use at home. for those who think they have to eat great bar-b-que with sauce then they will dip your choice of cuts in it for you. be sure and try all the sides. the beans are like yo' mama used to make, which you can get as much as you can eat from the five gallon bucket they have them in. be sure and get the cobblers to go to eat later you'll be too full. ok folks, enough said it's time for you all to go to cooper's old time pit in new braunfels.

just ok. for years we have heard about cooper's in llano....i hope it is better than this place! just run of the meal que, complete with fatty pieces of brisket served. go to salt lick if you want some bar b que that is over the top.

best bbq ever!. ate at cooper's last night and i have to say this is my new favorite bbq joint. the beef ribs were huge and juicy, spiced to perfection, and just fell off the bone. we got sauce on the side but the meat here is so good (really it is!), i didn't even need (or want) the sauce. the brisket and sausage were amazing as well.
a lot of bbq joints do one or two sides really well (creamed corn at rudy's comes to mind) but i have to say that all the sides were perfect, and the beans (which i usually don't like at bbq places) were off the charts with flavor and better yet - all you care to eat.
do your taste buds a favor and the next time you're driving i-35 through new braunfels, tx (or are anywhere close like austin or san antonio) stop into cooper's for some unforgettable bbq.

chopped beef sandwich, small bag of fritos and medium sweet tea - little under $10. verdict: salty and lacking flavor. not impressed but i was in a hurry and couldn't dine in, will give it a chance next chance i get.

good bbq. great beans. very relaxed atmosphere. bbq can ce rather expensive but this place is probably about the most expensive i've had. if you don't mind paying a lot...it will be good.

get the pork tenderloin. it melts in your mouth. no need for the mediocre sauce. the meat stands on its own. the beer is ice cold and the beans have whole jalepenos cooked in them. mmm hmmm.

bbq specialist. i have eaten at coopers bbq in nb several times. during the summer, just skip the place. always out of specialty meats. order brisket and you get 1/2 fat that they do not trim off. great deal- $10.99 for fat to throw away.
customer service is a 2 out of 10. it suuuuucks.

i was on a country drive with my family and decided to stop in and check out the q.the presentation was great but the food was poor and the sauce was terrible!if i had to do it over i would skip the sauce!

overpriced !!. wayyyy to proud of their bbq !! $$$

omg... love this place... food is a little pricey but so delicious!!!!

gruene goodness. i love the original in llano, but that's a bit far to drive from san antonio on a regular basis. this one has the same great bbq but with a much cleaner and upscale atmosphere plus plenty of parking! this rates way up there for my favorite bbq places. try the big chop with baked potato and cole slaw. plenty of free jalepenos, pickles, onions, and sauce at the table. i go often.

overrated... go to smitty's in lockhart, much better and the pits have been seasoned for almost 100 years.
