there must be better in vancouver. i was eager to taste the highly praised flavors that were being talked about around town. first thing most will notice is how loud the atmosphere is, which works for some events, but not for those requiring intimate conversations… or conversation at all. the service was haphazard, as our server came by very infrequently and always seemed distracted by more "important things" happening in the restaurant. i'd have to agree with other reviewers that they put more of their focus and energy towards serving groups that looked 'hi-profile.' absolutely dismal service.

we ordered the chilled seafood platter for 4, but upon finishing it was probably onlygoodfor 2. the texture of the crabs and lobster suggested an extended stay in the crustacean tank. the tiger shrimp were large and plump though, and the oysters were also good. the 28oz. steak was also delicious.

in the end, for the amount paid we certainly did not leave feeling full. we will be taking our business elsewhere.

not worth the $$$$. appetizers weregoodbut not the main dishes. and they play really loud dance music all the time. seems like they are trying too hard in some kinda douche way. for quality seafood with that price in downtown, i'd rather go to blue water cafe or joe fortes.

shopping in the robson/burrard area on a saturday and looking for food at 2pm. so glad we caught the weekend brunch at coast. i was pleasantly surprised with the crab and roasted pepper bennys. although i must say the tater tots reminded me of the frozen ones.... the ariel was a nice bubbly mid afternoon drink. the $10 benny special is agoodbang for your buck especially given the nice establishment in the downtown core with professional staff. would definitely come back.

great service, i always feel super welcomed every time i go. the food is also spectacular. always fresh oysters, happy hour menu is amazing. the crab dip is to die for, the kale hearts and brussel sprouts are also very good. beef carparccio is very tender and fresh with edamame beans which i lovee, i do however wish the bread which comes with it was a bit softer. the chefs special roll is always fresh and verygoodeach time i’ve been. and the taco is probably one of the best tacos i’ve ever had!

i was urged by my extended family to write a review about our recent experience at coast. first of all, it’s worth mentioning there were 9 of us from our 3 families, and we have independent tastes and opinions. but not this time; there was unanimity with our reactions. to start at the beginning…

we wanted to go to blue water café where we’ve visited often and never had a bad meal, but they were unable to accommodate us, so i was tasked with finding a suitable substitute that specializes in seafood. having been told in the past that trip advisor’s reviews are unreliable because many are posted by shills, i cross-referenced theirs with urban spoon and yelp in the hope it would add credibility. coast was highly-rated by all three websites, so i booked us at there at 7:15 on a tuesday night. upon arriving we were relieved to see the restaurant was only half-full, and looked forward to an enjoyable dining experience. how wrong we were.

after ordering our meals, we waited for what seemed like a long time, and eventually one of us mentioned that to our server. at first she thought it hadn’t been that long, but after double-checking she realized it had been an hour since she’d submitted our order, and she apologized for the delay. we explained that my mom (who’s 82) was fading, and asked for her meal to be brought out first asap – she’d had ordered the sablefish special with the miso sauce. thegoodnews is it came out shortly after we complained about the long wait. the bad news is it was mushy and unimpressive. it got sent back.

meanwhile, the rest of us were still waiting for our appetizers which finally arrived after mom’s unpalatable sablefish, approx. 75 minutes after we’d ordered. they consisted of assorted sushi rolls and salads, and were average at best. when our entrees finally arrived (at least 90 minutes after we’d ordered our meals), most of us were disappointed, and at least three of us barely ate them even though we were starving by this point.

it’s worth noting that our server did a prettygoodjob of addressing our comments, although it took one of us to bring the hour delay to her attention. it should have been her responsibility to be aware of timing instead of us having to complain after receiving no food for an hour, not even bread – apparently you have to buy the bread at coast. after she was made aware of the problem, someone in a higher position should have come to our table to inquire and attend to us immediately. that didn't happen for at least another 15 minutes from the time we complained.

a man, i assume a manager, came to our table, and his manner was somewhat cordial, yet bordered on aloof, as if the visit to our table was an unwelcome obligation, rather than an opportunity to make things right. shortly after his visit, a woman, possibly an asst. manager, was dispatched to our table, and she tried to make amends by offering an extra bottle of wine and an assortment of free desserts. we told her we didn’t want more wine or desserts - frankly, by that time we just wanted to get the hell out of there - but she insisted and wouldn't take no for an answer, so we accepted the desserts, which by the way were fine.

she also suggested we let her know how many of us didn’t like our meals, and that they would deduct those from the bill. that sounds reasonable, but in our experiences, high end restaurants don’t delegate that responsibility to the customer; they take charge of the situation themselves, usually offering to tear up the bill, or cut it by 50%, etc.

to make a long story short, by the server’s own admission, there was no excuse for the inordinate length of time it took to get our meals - she grudgingly admitted that in the 1-1/2 years she’d been working there she’d never seen this kind of overall dysfunction, and blamed it on the chef was having an off night.

bottom line: some of food was disappointing, the rest was average, and the management’s professionalism was sorely lacking.

i would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, that is, unless they’re masochistic and enjoy paying top dollar for sub-par food in an establishment where the management barely conceal the idea they're doing you a favour by letting you eat there.

we chose this place because there was a street parking place directly in front. turned out to be agoodchoice. it was happy hour and we had $5 glasses of wine. the food was 50% off. i had the parmesan flan with peas. excellent. my wife had the halibut fish and chips and thought they were very good, however, the substitute for the cole slaw never arrived. the food delivery was slow, although our server, paris, was friendly, attentive and was concerned to be sure that my wife's food did not contain any garlic. i guess the kitchen was the holdup. great location right downtown with a nice patio area right on the street. it is worth a visit.

coast is a solid seafood restaurant with great variety and affordable prices during happy hour. it's not one of the restaurants in vancouver i'd recommend to a tourist staying for, let's say, a few days, but it isgoodfor an occasional birthday birthday or romantic dinner.

cocktail hour is agoodtime to go and try out their food for a cheaper price than usual. then you can decide if it’s a restaurant worth the splurge. i would definitely go back for the lobster poutine. it’s the epitome of fine comfort food (although i do wish there was a dot of caviar to really finish it off)...

don't bother.. this was a disappointment. the concierge at our hotel suggested it. i ordered the fish and chips; the halibut was very thin with a bland greasy batter, the chips dry and musty, really terrible. the waiter was incredibly rude; i left the awful chips, h/e the water made an odd comment to my husband about me being about to "dive into" them. i'm a middle-aged lady with average build - it was snarky and stupid. they need coaching in bothgoodmanners and cooking.

we recently had lunch at coast, a well known establishment located along alberni street where you can also find black blue, thierry and italian kitchen. the service was excellent, the food offerings are diverse and easy on the pocket, and the space is large yet thriving with energy. the food menu offers a fusion of cuisines. the wrap box (cad$13.95) comes with tuna sashimi, a shrimp wrap and new england clam chowder. there are flatbreads such as truffled brie (cad$15.95), and smoked salmon (cad$15.95), with hot sides crispy garlic fried calamari (cad$12.95); as well as light bites like tuna goma-ae (cad$15.50) and spicy ahi tuna roll (cad$11.95). if pasta is your thing, the tagliatelle vongole (cad$14.95) will not disappoint. it impresses with agoodhandful of clams and makes for a filling lunch if sushi feels too light or calamari too heavy. among the other restaurants in the area, coast offers an eclectic menu, perfect for any hungry yet indecisive person.  since coast is located in

... ling cod fish & chips, served w hand cut kennebec fries, toasted fennel coleslaw, house-made tartar sauce... loved the freshness and crispness of the fries, though they were a tad salty; fish batter was just the tiniest bit too thick, fry wasgoodbut the oil used left a weird (as in not good) taste on the fish batter; fish itself was borderline dry; entire dish was served piping hot, but nevertheless failed to impress
