decided to try this based on recommendation of friends. i had the enchiladas and she had the flautas. service was great, building is more like an old greasy spoon, but food was plentiful, hot and lots of flavor. jalapeno dippingsaucewas delicious! rice was moist and plentiful. would also recommend the tortilla soup. hearty and full of chicken.

we went with our party of seven adults tonight to this lively crowded spot off 281 and henderson pass. like the other restaurants in this chain, it's decor is 50s shabby/chic with lots of hubcaps, elvis memorabilia and new mexico references since the mexican food leans toward southwestern mexican and not tex mex. the hostess asked that we wait until everyone in our party had arrived before being seated, but the restaurant wasn't crowded? we were seated and given menus. after ten minutes our waiter arrived and was not happy, he seemed preoccupied and upset, an attitude that continued throughout our meal.

the menu has some appetizers, salads, enchilada plates and specialties plus a fajita offering. also a full bar. we ordered drinks and the appetizer sampler to get started. sheesh, we waited another 20 minutes before our waiter brought our drinks and appetizer---then he disappeared without taking our entree orders! we weren't pleased at all with the service but when he showed up again we ordered taco salads, soft tacos, tortilla soup and mexican salad.

another 30-minute wait and finally our entrees arrived cold and not really very good. my taco salad had wilted and brown lettuce and about half a cup of meat--for $10??? my spouse's mexican salad was bland and chicken on it ice cold. the appetizer plate had flautas, queso, guacamole, nachos and quesadillas but no one finished those... it just wasn't that good.

before we had even gotten halfway through our entrees our disgruntled waiter brought our checks! good grief, guess no one wanted desserts?

i doubt we'll waste our time and money coming here anytime soon. the best parts are the jalapeño ranch dippingsauceand the crispy chips. everything else, including the rude disinterested service, is forgettable. total for three entrees, two drinks and a margarita was $52.87 including tip.

we went for our first time last evening and were -- simply put -- blown away by the high quality of the tasty food and the incredible friendliness of the attentive staff.

we both had chicken burritos with hatch green chilesauce-- just insanely yummy.

the salsa we started the meal with was a truly "fresca" salsa -- lots of lime. very tangy. exceptionally good.

chuy's keeps late hours, too -- at least by okie standards. (they close at ten p.m. -- and that was perfect for us last night, as we loathe the idea of being "those guys" who show up at five until nine when a place closes down at nine p.m., ya know? such a stupid thing to do. seriously.)

five stars for chuy's?
easily. absolutely.

we're looking forward to our next visit already!

i have been to this place twice, for dinner on both instances. i really like the vibe of the place and the food is good too. take a table outside and enjoy your dinner under the pleasant light of the bulbs that are in the string.
had the chicken enchilada called chicka chicka boom boom that comes with their special green sauce.
also they have unlimited chips and salsa! don't forget to get your creamy jalapeñosaucethat tastes best with the chips.

by far the worst mexican food in little rock. service is always bad and they never bring your order out like you asked. i thought on the border was a sad excuse for tex-mex until i came to chuys. the waitress seemed to have been up for a few days and when we asked for cheese on our salad we got a smallsaucebowl that ended up costing us a dollar.

chuy's is mexican with a twist (or a bit of kink if you prefer).

they have a nice patio which they actually use much of the year.

they have the usual mexican fare but usually stepped up a bit. they also have their kink - like the elvis green chile fried chicken. from their menu: "a chuys original. a tender chicken breast breaded with lays potato chips, deep fried and smothered in green chilesauceand cheddar cheese. served with green chile rice and refried beans".

the two combo plates are excellent and showcase several items. just have them hold the 'smokey chipotle sauce' on the flautas. the flautas are really good - but thesauceis a total travesty.

the rellenos are good as are the fajitas in whatever species you prefer.

be sure to try the creamy jalapeño ranch with your chips. it has tons of finely diced mild jalapeños swimming in the ranch dressing. so good!

they also offer hatch pepper sauce. it too is great on chips but you may find it more than a bit spicy. being a beef broth basedsauceit has interesting undertones.

how the heck can you serve cheese enchiladas with shredded cheese in the middle and the cheese not be melted? i wish i could post a picture. the jalapeñosauceand the chips are good though but the cheese enchiladas are the microwaveable kind.

most horrible mexican experience. chuy's was most disappointing and horrible mexican food in the little rock, though our server was nice and friendly but he was not filling our chips and salsa as he should have...i ordered mex-cobb salad with creamy jalapanosaucewhich was huge but there was nothing special in the salad and was basically bowl was filled with lettuce with some tomato, cheese, guacomole, chilles. lettuce had no taste as if they have brought it from cheap seller (basically no quality maintainance) and it was not tossed at all and there was not space to mix the salad. no spoons given, only 1 fork for eating and no extra plates etc. (well may be they expect us to get our things from home)....my husband ordered combo lite which was okay but nothing special, it was the most regular mexican food he had without any distinct flavor...only sweet dish and drinks were good. i will never go there every again.
