it's just that good. mason between us1 and nova is probably one the most forgetful areas in town, but it is home to a few culinary masterpieces. the most recent i discovered is the chucherias hondureñas. it's not the prettiest place, but when i stepped foot inside i scanned the kitchen immediately to my left. i could see the cooks working their magic, and the smell of the tastes i was about to enjoy captivated me.
a good friend told me about this place, and she says it's hard for her to go anywhere else. even while i was expecting the best, the sandwiches surpassed my already high expectations. the staff is as sincere and authentic as the food is. the rice, beans and plantains were good, but not extraordinary like the black bean deli in winter park. however, the bread, sauces and service are all great and i ended up eating way more than i should have. i'll definitely be back.

i came all the way from gainesville to eat at this restaurant. i am honduran, and i had been missing and craving my dear honduran food. groupon introduced me to this restaurant, they had two specials the first deal was:
1. buy $35 and spend $45
2. buy 65$ and spend $90
i had read all about this restaurant, how it had moved to a better place and about their amazing food. what did i buy? obviously the buy $65 ( on groupon) my plan was to indulge all the food i could and roll out of the restaurant. i did what i had planned for (i bought the application using the groupon app), but when i paid the bill my fairy tale had come to an end. i was unable to use my groupon, because i needed to bring in with me 2 other people in order for it to be valid. i felt horrible, the owner of the store co-owner (male) came storming at us, i could literally see his neck vein popping up. he was treating us as if we were trying to rip him off or something. little did he know i had written a post on the restaurant's fb page commenting on how delicious the food was looking and had given several likes to his page without even going there. to top it off i heard him speaking in spanish (without knowing spanish is my first language) he was saying that we were tourists trying to rip him off! a waiter came to tell him that i spoke spanish and he immediatly came to us speaking to me in spanish. he started explaing why his groupon had not applied and offered us a "complementary drink". tooi late sir, i was already in tears, had paid the bill and started leaving the restaurant. i still have my $65 groupon and i really don't know if i will get a refund back. the money isn't the problem, the problem is how we were treated. the co-owner of the store treated us like thieves. i had already told some friends that we had to come to this place, i cancelled all of them. this has been my only review on groupon, but i thought they deserved it. judge for youself.
p.s the waiter was really nice!

good food. they have the dishes that you'd expect to see at a latin american eatery except they are done so much better than you usually see.

rain whipped through the panhandle sending children and both dogs into our bed.  i had the misfortune of driving through the rain storm a second time on my way towards florida’s east coast.  after a harrowing drive full of blue haired piloted land yachts absentmindedly drifting across lanes of traffic and tractor trailers cutting off fellow drivers i arrived in sunny daytona beach.  i needed to relax and made my way towards chucherias hondureñas for lunch. a large colorful sign marked the location of the restaurant, and i walked though a covered stone walkway towards the front entryway.  chucherias is located at 101 2 nd street in a large low slung stone building.  a large live oak tree draped with spanish moss reached its limbs over round tables neatly arranged on the patio and dotted with bright orange and yellow umbrellas. i walked inside and sat at a small bar.  a man behind the bar greeted me and provided me with a glass of water.  chucherias specializes in latin american food fro

this little restaurant is fantastic! it has the best cubans i've ever eaten and the lady who runs it is passionate about making really good, quality honduran food. she is also very friendly and generous. wonderful food and good service, this is a place i will go back to every time i'm in daytona.

decided to go here as it rated highly on here and trip advisor. this restaurant is very good, the service is outstanding, but you do pay for it, in fact us is over priced in my opinion. we had a glass each of sangria which was very nice. we had corn fritters for entree, (shared) which were nice but nothing special. main, (which we shared) of shrimps (prawns), which was 8 prawns arranged on a bed of mashed potato with 2 chips, again nothing special. for sweets, strawberries marinated in grand marnier with whipped cream (also shared). everything was very nice but we have had better. we were staggered to get the check for $76.31 us dollars, then put a tip on top and the total is near $87. remember this is for 2 drinks, 1 starter, 1 main and 1 dessert. the food is average to aussie standards at best. i understand why this place rates so well as it is very good for us food standards.

the food was flavorful, robust, and well prepared. i wish i could have had room for dessert! i had the muscles which were prepared with paprika, artichoke hearts, and chorizo. the shrimp entree was perfect, the creamy sauce had just a faint coconut flavor. the cucumber cocktail is very refreshing as expected. if i were not dining alone i would've had a salad for some extra vegetables.

when jacksonville top food blogger, told me i had to absolutely go to this restaurant i believed him.  i was spending a few days in st. augustine, so driving down to holly hill  close to daytona was not a problem.  i left in time to take in a late leisurely  lunch.  it was a little strange once i arrived, my misconception of what i was looking for took over and i shot right past, circled around and finally spotted it.  the property looked like an abandoned strip mall, but there on the corned was chucherias hounurenas.  once parked and walking inside this is what i encountered;

tonight was our first visit and we were not disappointed! our server was top notch and we had an owner stop by the table. from the warm bread with guava infused cinnamon butter to the pupusas with cabbage, to my arros con pollo and my husband's cubano sandwich, everything was delicious. the flavors and ingredients were fresh and balanced. even the side salads and plantains made us happy. two salsas: a sweet cilantro and a not-too-hot habanero salsa paired well with all of our meal components. we put the cilantro sauce on everything and it worked. the next table over ordered a few different desserts, which all looked amazing, including flan and a large crepe, with espresso and other coffees. we ordered the restaurant favorite: the sticky toffee. it was a dark heated cake slice (sorry, but i'm not sure if it was chocolate or ginger), homemade raisin rum ice cream, and sliced strawberries covered with warm toffee sauce which was poured at the table. perfection. we ended the meal sipping a sweet port wine and left with smiles on our faces, declaring to go back and try the lunch menu, too.

the parking is plentiful and easy - go through the breezway to find the entrance. we were also advised to phone ahead for a table reservation to be sure we can be accommodated. two large parties were there tonight, so it sounds like good advice!
