"i got plenty of nothing". i was looking forward to eating @ chickie's & pete's, however, i was not all that hungry. so, i ordered some of their spicy crab fries, some crab bisque, and a shrimp. there are some good points to this meal, but they would not be good enough to bring me back. and, there were some bad aspects that would keep me from coming back. first, the flavor of the crab bisque was very good. it had a hearty flavor, but where was the crab. if it was in the bisque, i could not discern the crab. makes me wonder if the bisque was not made from crab stock, and that there was no crab meat in the bisque. second, the fries had a nice, slightly old bay taste with some sort of cheesy dipping sauce on the side. but, nothing spectacular about them. and that's the good points. my shrimp salad came with 7 shrimp, mostly head lettuce (really ???), and a few scant mixed vegetables, and a balsamic vinegar dressing. first, if the restaurant is going to make a salad, at least make it with some good salad greens, not tasteless head lettuce. the shrimp were probably mediums in size. the first 3 shrimp, i did not check for being cleaned. however, when i took a bite of the 4th shrimp, it had definitely been rinsed in a chlorine / water solution. i could taste it, and i could smell it. that is a common practice to make old & slightly off shrimp appear to be fresh. the next shrimp was ok. however, the last 2 shrimp had not been cleaned. the black, so-called vein (really the digestive track) of the shrimp had not been removed. that is a definite no-no in prepping shrimp, especially in restaurants. how disgusting. i showed & discussed these issues with the server. when she came back with my bill, she showed me the original bill for about $28.00, and had prepared a second bill in which the salad had been removed. the second bill came back with a total of approximately $16.00 for food. not worth a second visit.
