great place for snacks. really small joint but does the job perfectly. decent burgers. had the bacon, egg, cheeze burger with lays chips on the side. maybe french fries/onion rings would be a better option for sides. lays should definitely be avoided. divan, the solo gunner, opened at exactly 18:00
he was quick enough to get everything ready within minutes.
would definitely visit again.

my husband and i only had the cheeseburgers, and to be honest, they were two of the best we've had in india. each was made to order, with the chef asking if we wanted to include jalapenos, garlic powder in the meat, which sauce(s) we wanted (i had the barbecue, which was just how i like it -- not spicy and a tad sweet), if we wanted the burgers medium or well-done, if we wanted the complimentary chips, and so on. the burgers came out dripping from their own patty juices and the sauces -- a messy but delicious feast. one burger each was enough to fill our tummies for the evening.

we actually ended up at canteen 18 because that part of pondicherry was suffering a power cut from 5:30pm to 8:10pm, and the ac at the restaurant we were planning to eat at wasn't working (but note that canteen 18 doesn't serve food during the power cut, either; the electricity came back on as we approached the counter). canteen 18's seating is completely al fresco, but there are fans set up that keep the eating area breezy.

the husband said that he wouldn't mind eating at canteen 18 again during our short visit, so it's an a+ from him, as well as from me.

canteen 18- located in a street opposite to the cathedral not so tough to find. in mood for burgers and hot dogs? you are at the right place to eat them. the burgers melt on the 1st bite. a limited menu and they serve only the best. best place for take aways.
must try:
chicken burger
hot dog

canteen 18 isn't a canteen at all. it's a mini bistro of sorts. run by a couple, this bistro doesn't have the most impressive menu. but it does justice to the phrase "quality over quantity". it's in a side lane near the church on mission street. very tiny sign, very tiny joint. it's difficult to spot unless you know what you're looking for.

entrée -
sandwiches, all of them are made to your exact order. laced with their home made special sauce (you have a good set of variants), every bite is one hell of an adventure.
french toast with cinnamon, hot dogs, burgers. they all are just as good as the last.
in every single one of the items, the way each ingredient play with your senses is sublime.

drinks - if you come here, you must try the cold coffee and iced tea.

they also have something new everyday, cookies, brownies, small cakes, depends on your luck, and very limited, but everything is brilliant!

ambience - they have 3 tables. that's all. so being all feisty when it comes to seating isn't fair, considering that the food they'll serve will take you for a ride.

expenditure - i must express my disappointment in this part. hence the 4.0 rating and not a 5.0. canteen 18 will blow a hole in your pocket if you are going to eat a stomach full. but if you're willing to just have a snack, then i'd say you'll be okay.

verdict - a modest joint which you'll enjoy, but be careful, if you're going by what your tummy says, you'll end up spending a bomb.

this is a small 2-4 seater restaurant, more like a takeaway. but what a burger they make. the entire flavour explodes with the first bite and you want more and.more of the same. must visit place when in pondicherry.

unfortunately there are not 7 stars so i am forced to give only five stars!
i came, i saw my belly was conquered with just one master piece of a 'paneer-vegi-burger'. it was belly belly good! don't miss it!
best stop-by spot in town!

we finally visited this little tiny place in pondicherry. and we loved it. period.
the place may be small with seating capacity of only 10 people at max, but the food is pure love. the burgers are what we tried and they were smacking awesome. the juices were perfect, the hamburger was medium rare, the bacon was crispy and everything was just perfect. the banana walnut cake could have been a bit more moist but it had full packed flavors inside it.
affordable, comfy, warm, welcoming and brilliant food.
this just hit my favorite places list of pondy !!

while roaming the streets of the town, came across canteen 18. it's a small eatery placed in corner.

the place offers wide variety of burgers, croissant, rolls, sandwiches.

the preparation of each item is very basic, but the ingredients make a lot of difference. the homemade bbq sauce was fantastic.

chicken/egg roll with little mayo was satisfying.

pricing is well within range and does offer outdoor sitouts.

amazing and pocket friendly!
the place is very small- there are hardly 3 tables and they almost abut the road. menu choice wise, vegetarians are limited to the sandwiches. i tasted the chicken burger. it was a pan fried chicken mince patty with garnish and a choice of sauce. it was brilliant. the bun was soft and fresh, the patty was nice and crispy, the cheese had half melted and the sauce was oozing everywhere. it was a messy affair, but totally worth getting my hands dirty. it wasn't served with any sides, however. the cost was 170 rupees, which is very good considering the competition. the obvious negative is the very short working hours- it closes for lunch at 2 and for dinner at 9, so you'll have to eat an early meal. i would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a tasty, filling and vfm meal.

i usually dont give a rating of 5 to any place unless there is something exceptional. in this case it were the burgers. the best burgers i have ever had. ever!!

small little place by the corner of a street. not too difficult to locate. reminded me of the numerous french cafes that have tables lined up along the pavement serving typical french dishes.

the french toast with bacon and eggs was superb. just the right amount of crispiness.
the basic mozzarella sandwiches were pretty good too.
however the showstoppers were the burgers.
bacon egg and cheese and chicken cheese were to put it simply superb. just blew our mind away. nice well done crispy patty with delicious home made sauce.

there was only one guy who did all the preparations. like a one man army and kept rolling out one amazing dish after the other. do try out his amazing collection of homemade sauces. i think we ate through his stock of supplies for that day.

i was riding back to bangalore from pondi on my re thunderbird after the meal and he was very helpful in suggesting which route to take. its always the right thing to ask locals regarding routes, thanks to him i saved myself a lot of trouble.

needless to say, this is one of the most underrated and unknown places in pondi and a hidden gem. im surely coming back here when i come visiting pondi again.
