great neighborhood restaurant. i go here at least once or twice a week. though the service can be a little slow sometimes (only because it gets so busy due to its popularity), i have never been disappointed in anything i've ever ordered at this place. breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert, everything is homemade and delicious. my favorites include the macaroni and cheese with panko crumbs and side salad, the brie and pear sandwich with ciabatta bread, the buckwheat pancakes, the eggs benedict with salmon, the mayan cappucino, and pretty much all the baked goods and desserts (especially the cupcakes, milkshakes, cakes and chocolate pie with meringue). cafe eclectic is truly the definition of a neighborhood cafe/restaurant on account of both its food and atmosphere.

we went here with about an hour to eat at 10:00 a.m. on a friday morning. we are pretty efficient diners, and usually that's plenty of time, but our waitress took nearly 30 minutes to even take our order. when i asked her to bring the check with the food so we'd get out on time, she said it wasn't realistic and unfair. i didn't ask her to rush anything. just bring the check with the food. she honestly embarrassed me. we left a $10 bill to more than pay for our drinks and left because if she can't even take our orders for 30 minutes, we just lost faith. i'm bummed because i've enjoyed this place before.

seriously?. i think everyone can agree that ce is delicious. the food is great, its always fresh and their coffee is amazing. but i cannot get over their terrible service. every review has been truthful, so far. their service sucks! sassy waitstaff and 2 hour waits for sandwiches is ridiculous. i went in with two friends and we were three of the five people in the place. the meal honestly took two hours. at what point do we say 'enough already' and get a comped meal? i thought i had a stroke of genius when i recently phoned in my order, expecting to dodge the service and get straight to the fantastic food. i ordered a grilled cheese, the pineapple and chicken sandwich, and o'brien's taters (all of which are really great menu items). when they said to be there in 15 minutes, i was elated. finally a way to eat my food within the hour. i arrived promptly 15 minutes later, card in hand, ready for the brown bag. it took 5 minutes for someone to recognize that i was in the restaurant (when you are staring at the man at the register from across the gelato that is a really long time), then once i paid they asked me to wait a few more minutes because my order wasn't ready yet. i waited 45 minutes! just sitting there waiting, no table or anything, no drinks, no fuss, just waiting! finally after 3 inquiries at 10 minute intervals i finally got my food. i cant believe it! what in the world could they possibly be doing back there?!? does anyone know if the mud island location is any better? i know midtown is laid back and the food is good, but do they really expect us to keep coming back? ce, i love you, but i cant do this anymore. if delivery ever becomes an option, you'll hear from me. until then i'm going to have to find a way to replicate that pineapple sandwich. ill miss you.
adieu.

they pride themselves on using fresh & local ingredients.  food is good & my son loves it.  we don't go here more often because of the service.  they are extremely slow.  i have yet to get in & out in a decent amount of time.  if you are going, bring a book or a good friend.  you will need something to pass the time away.

my favorite are the handmade shakes.  they are always delicious.

been going here for years, watching the quality erode, and today i was served ice cold soup, raw broccoli instead of the cooked asparagus i asked for, and i don't know what those things they called grits were... hominy tartare? i will never be going again. save your time, money, and hcl for real food.

felt rushed!. i went in to café eclectic today and i felt rushed by my server "adam". i understand serving because i am a serving as well but, when you work at a cafe its a little different. give a person time to drink and eat. do not continue to ask them if they are ready.i didn't stay long not even 40minutes. i like this place it has a warm feeling but i do not like feeling like i'm not welcome or am taking to long. i didn't say anything because i am not quick to complain but when i heard the table across from me mention the same thing to her friends i knew that it wasn't just me but it was him. if you want to flip your tables to make more money try somewhere other than a café.
