first time dining at @balai_brunch_by_cafeplus. nice ambiance! great interiors! however, i found the lighting dim so you have to angle yourself to brighten up lol. anyway, 'bout the food i kindaf love the presentation, coz' it has this rustic-ish feels with the plate and all but the taste? yes! it just tastes like an ordinary shawarma rice, yet the sauce made it a notch higher. needless to say, it was a fancy resto but it has an accomodating and friendly staff and since i was with good and fun company it rather compensated with the so so tasting food we have to munch on. nevertheless, still a thumbs up!

finally got the chance to visit this place. this has been stucked on my bookmarks for so long since this place is very much familiar to me, just a distance away from the highway where i always passed by on my way to work. i am always caught by the positive reviews this place has so i grabbed the chance to enjoy my breakfast here together with my partner. they open as early as 6:00 in the morning and we came here around 8:00 am. the outside area of the place visually looks like just a mansion full of ornaments, which makes it cozy and relaxing. we went inside and wow, the ambience really caught my heart; rustic and very quiet, my ideal café to stay at. the place was quiet big including the parking area so no neee to worry for people who bring their vehicles. they have lots of available seats outside and they have this lounge area too for private meetings.
we ordered their balai plate, i guess their signature brunch plate paired it with their brewed coffee. it was a filling breakfast meal totally worth its price. the place has lots of instagrammable corners. they have polite and cheerful staffs too which makes the experience very warming. totally one of the very best cafés to look out here in cebu if you really want to spend and chill for a longer time in a quiet and cozy place. i really wanted to stay more hours here but then again my shift is 10 am so i have to leave earlier. definitely be back sooner.

balai cafe will always be one of those cafés you’ll love to go to- for relaxation from a busy day at work, or at school. just the perfect place to unwind dor its cozy furnitures and the home vibe it provides, true to it’s name- balai.
food was great but what i can really recommend are their drinks. coffee is what they are really known first next was their roasted chicken.

food was good and worth it at its price. i really like the coffee here, too. ambience was really nice, good place to catch up.

however, we waited for almost two hours for our food to be complete. one of my friends got irritated since when we first followed up for our order, we sensed that they have forgotten about it and told us to wait since the kitchen was busy. we waited for another hour for a salad and a breakfast plate. i think it would be wise if staff would actually write down the customer's orders instead of just memorizing it.

if not for the food, i would think twice on coming back here.

this is the best restaurant/cafe/chill place i've been to in cebu. the moment we stepped in, i already knew we were in the right place. the staff were courteous and friendly. the food was great! i ordered balai plate and even though i liked it so much, i wasn't able to finish it due to the large serving. i also love their frappuccino! i ordered triple chocolate and it didn't disappoint. i especially liked that the sweetness was just right and how it complements the flavor of this drink. and since everyone loved it here, went for a second visit on our last day and i ordered bacon roll and black forest for my daily dose of coffee. as usual, i liked both and it gave me more reason to love this cafe. it's a true hidden gem at the heart of cebu city. now i'm never gonna miss an opportunity to visit here whenever i go to cebu. i just wish they would expand here in manila. i'd definitely be their first customer. kudos to the whole crew! keep up the good work!

let me talk about the pros and cons:

the cons
-first of all, we arrived when it was dark and the parking area didn’t have any lighting. at all. it was hard to park, even with someone to help, looking for the guide lines for parking was hard. it would have been no problem during the day, but at night parking is quite difficult.
-one of the orders we got (cream of corn soup) took a long time to be served. we requested it to be served first, but it was the last thing to be served instead.

the pros
-very friendly and accommodating staff. our server especially was really good. i wasn’t able to get his name, but props to you bro, you were awesome.
-restaurant has a great ambience.
-food was amazing. it was my first time eating there but i wasn’t disappointed. the chicken in particular is really great. 5 stars.

the overall
-really good overall. only problem is the bad lighting (actually no lighting at all) at the parking lot.

food tastes great (worth the price), except for the pancakes. the red velvet pancakes were uhm, tasteless (thank goodness there was ice cream which gave flavor to it) and somewhat not soft. i was not able to finish half of it because it was...just sad (definitely not worth the price). but the creamy pesto, ice blended matcha drink, and the shawarma rice dish (i forgot the exact name but the servee said it was their best seller) were really great! i think i would love to come back here (just not for the pancakes though).

great place to chill. food and coffee is quite decent and very reasonably priced. staff was also cheerful and friendly, and service was prompt. cozy place and lots of instagrammable corners, but happy to say that you don't come here just for the 'gram (i feel like this is a common plague to the local food scene; all looks, no substance) — they actually have good things to offer! we went for breakfast, so we didn't get to try the farooj chicken with its four sauces as it's apparently only available from 11 onwards, but suffice to say we had a pleasant enough experience that it was a unanimous thumbs up from the group — bumped all the way up to our brunch haunt favorites :)
