amazing food! the beef and tripe sobot was superb, and we got the mushroom and anchovy pepes both of which were excellent. ayam goreng kalasan was a little dry but beautiful marinade. service, decor etc are not a focus for this place, you're here for the food. it's worth coming as close to 6pm as possible as you have to queue after

don't believe all that hype!!!!. i read the recent reviews before i went. honestly, i expected better quality of food. the chicken was soft, satay is average, the beef balls were soft. the pepes - so shriveled and small. even the sambal, though hot, was not tasty.

a big disappointment!!!

serving up cheap and tasty indonesian dishes, ayam goreng can quickly transport their diners to jakarta with the range of hawker style dishes. there seems to always be a line to get in, but the turnover is quick. once in, you write your orders down on a piece of paper, and the dishes often start turning up within minutes.

finger lickin' good.. this is my must-visit restaurant at kingsford. in my 8 years living in australia, i have never found an indonesian restaurant this good. my favourite is: ayam goreng kalasan, ampla goreng and pepes jamur. the pepes jamur is awesome (btw pepes jamur is mushrooms wrapped in banana or papaya tree leaves). the pepes jamur i've tried in indo is not that good, maybe because this pepes jamur here use australian button mushrooms. they're more juicy and fragrant. the ayam goreng kalasan is like... finger lickin' good. as in, i still nibble on the bones after i'm done eating. to be honest i'll even lick the plate clean if nobody was around (oops)
i love the fact that they use the indonesian-style food ordering. provide a notepad and pen for the customers to write the orders, and the waiter will take them n process your order. there's a reviewer who said he hates it because it seems like the waiters don't want to do anything. hehe, no dude, that's the indonesian style! pick up your pen and start writing!
the food here is pretty cheap too. for 10 dollars i get: a chicken, rice and the ampla goreng. awesome.

ayam goreng 99 serves up signature indonesian style grilled and fried chicken and is oddly not located at 99 anzac parade. most of the menu is quite a mouthful to pronounce for the non-indonesian, but the great thing is that you don't actually need to utter a word at ayam goreng 99. diners jot down their menu choices onto a notebook, which is then handed to the waitstaff - brilliantly simple. you come to ayam goreng 99 for the ayam goreng - fried chicken. in this instance, it was the paha goreng kalasan deep fried, marinated javanese style chicken. most diners knowingly choose the juicy thi

burnt food everywhere.... went there before they close for xmas break, my friends always told me to try the grill chicken so we did. the chicken was not grilled, it looks like it was thrown into a flame since the skin of the chicken was black!
the satay sauce also a let down, looks like they are using a pre-made sauce (not home made) and you can taste the un-authenticity.
the "waiter" (if i can call him that) job is only to take and deliver your order, and nothing else. you do everything else yourself, write down your name on the waiting list (no one told me this), get your cup and water jar/tea, etc.
overall, we didnt like the quality and taste of the food, or the "wait staff" here. the only upside was the price is reasonable, but not that cheap.

best indonesian place in sydney so far. it's a casual restaurant, with good value for money food. cooked fresh, the 'ayam bakar' served with the chilli garnish is to die for!
