ayam goreng 99

i've managed to try all three of the chicken varieties available here and chose the chicken breast. the three options were the charcoal grilled marinated chicken, deep fried marinated chicken and the fried marinated chicken javanese style. 

in all three versions, even though the chicken breast didn't look like much from the outside, i found that the chicken was very tasty and cooked to a tender texture and the flavours were quite well infused into the chicken pieces and provided for a hearty meal. the accompanying chilli sambal sauce also added agoodkick to the whole meal and i actually finished the steamed rice with only the chilli sauce added to the rice. i tried the petai goreng (fried smelly sator beans) once, which seemed a little flat in terms of flavour but were nevertheless agoodaccompaniment to the main chicken breast meal which had more than enough deep flavours.

the place was quite busy and obviously popular, i just did a take-away order as there weren't any spaces available inside. service was quite friendly and efficient (with under a ten-minute wait for the meal despite being very busy at the time) but i found the main attraction to be the fried chicken (ayam goreng).

i grew up eating a lot of authentic indonesian food and my mum is a professional chef. this restaurant is reallygoodand hasgoodservice for a restaurant that is busy. i recommend if you are going to eat there on a sunday don't come at 6-7 as t is the busiest time

finally tried this legendary ayam goreng which already well known among indonesians in sydney. this what we had:
- ayam bakar (grilled chicken), chicken taste nice, it well marinated. seems like they braised the chicken with spices first before grill it with kecap manis. the sambal itself not really spicy to my liking
- kwetiau goreng, it's hubby's order. he said it taste nice just like the way i cook at home lol
- soto ayam, taste more like soto ambengan for me. but it'sgoodand generous topping

i know this place is an institution, but i have never been before tonight. my husband tells me he used to go here during uni days (which was a long long time ago). it’s agoodthing we came just before 6pm as there was already a long queue and we just made the first seating.

we came with friends who are indonesian and regulars, so we let them do the ordering. as usual, they always over order so our table was heaving with food. their grilled chicken was tasty and i liked their rice vermicelli noodles with chicken. my son liked the fried rice that was ordered. there was soups and grilled tofu wrapped in leaves and mushrooms wrapped in leaves. the ran out of coconut rice so we ordered their white rice with rendang beef which was tough. maybe as the prices were big but the sauce itself was very tasty. the indonesian chilli is very spicy, so be careful when trying it the first time.

we tried to eat as quickly as possible as we got the table right next to the door so we could see the people looking in wanting a table.

to be honest the food here is the everyday dishes in indonesia however the dishes here have been perfected the food here is basic as i usually eat the ayam bakar, rice, chilli and tempe . the food here isgoodas there is no competition to beat ayam goreng 99. however this place will always have a special place in my heart. the othergoodthing about ayam goreng 99 is the sambel as you take the amount you want however if you take away the food it is not asgoodas you eat it there

i love the food here, service is prompt and i could always rely ongoodindonesian food. charcoal grilled chicken is so tender along with chicken satay skewers. i even love their nasi goreng and stir fried vegetables. its great that they also offer fried tofu and tempeh.

wow, amazing quality authentic indonesian food in a simple home environment. the place has an array of style of dishes, which is far superior than the other south asian style restaurants namely mamak and pappa rich. agoodhidden gem.

we ordered :
sate ayam ( chicken satay ) which was good, however not outstanding. meats are so tiny, and accompanied with peanut sauce and fried onion with kecap manis ( sweet soy ) drizzled on top.
flavour wise, it wasgoodand tasty.
came with what they called, rice cake. ( like rice steamed inside banana leaves.)
cah kangkung was nice too, my only complain was a little to oily for the dish.

i think this was the highlight from what we ordered.
chicken was marinate before hand, and during the cooking prices, what we think is basted with sweet sky mixture. you can see the chicken was nicely basted and caramelized on the skin.
flavour was deep penetrated to the meat, leavinggoodsweetness from marination combained with charred from the fire during grilling process.
definitely worth to visit if you are on the area.

our regular place since uni. the price has not changed much in 10 years. food was delicious andgoodportion. grilled chicken, ox tail soup, kangkung are always on our table.

this place has got to be the best indonesian restaurant in sydney. don't expect fancy stuff, just wholesome, lip-smackinglygoodfood. the ambience is sparse and basic, but in reality, once the food comes out, you can barely concentrate on anyting else. do not miss the grilled chicken.

amazing food indeeeeddd! loved the grilled chicken and the chilli of course! 🔥🔥🔥 the nasi goreng is prettygoodtoo! and the cah kang kung, maaann! definitely a homesick cure! coconut rice always runs out everytime we get there.. :( i think it suits the chicken best! satay ayam is reasonably tasty.. yum!

this is in fact a great place for cheap eat or if you want to try indonesian food without breaking the bank. in fact the price is probably the only reason the queue is so long. however it will not get our vote for best indonesian food in town.

we like their ayam bakar especially with the accompanying sambal, empal is also not bad although expect less oily version.

arrived at the restaurant just before 6pm although the restaurant has just opened it was already full. this is my first visit and was excited to eat there after reading so many great reviews. suffice to say i was not disappointed.  first of all the sambal chill they have on the table is just amazing, they are so spicy and full of flavor also the thick black sauce ( i am unsure the name) is also verygoodaccompaniment. i ordered bbq chickens, vermicelli noodle goreng, deep fried prawns, green vegetables and mushrooms on banana leaf. the chickens were marinated through the meat and it was very tasty and well cooked. vermicelli goreng was one of my favorite dishes, i loved texture of the noodle and the flavor was perfect. i didn't love the cooked vegetables or mushrooms on banana leaf but deep fried prawn was excellent, it was crunch and well-seasoned. i bought a large bottle of their sambal chili and the thick sauce and the total bill was only $69.  i think it’s really well priced. service was fast and tentative. by the time when we were done, there were queues outside of the restaurant.
the restaurant does live up to it's hype. highly recommend to anyone!

great indonesian food, where the indonesia/malaysian people go which is agoodsign. charcoal chicken was great, only thing holding this place back from a 5 is the quality of the dining area that needs a face lift
