don't bother trying other dishes like ayam soto or nasi goreng because those are not what ayam goreng 99 are known for. there are three different versions of the awesome grilled and fried chicken at ayam goreng 99. although they are not as tasty as those which you can find along the streets in jakarta, singapore or kuala lumpur, you can still taste the tenderness, juiciness and the flavour of an authentic grilled/fried chicken. don't ask me which is my favourite because they taste really great. probably a different version for a different weather and a different day of the week.

what's more? the sambal belacan can make you sweat! dump them into your tummy if you want a full, whole day at the bathroom 😆😆

must be my tastebuds but the food i had here was disappointing. fried chicken was ok, nothing spectacular. the nasi goreng - rice was clumpy although the flavour was ok. not what i have expected as i have had nasi goreng at other places and they have been totally different and better to this. kangkung dish was also soso. satay, different to other satay i have had, subtle and creamy however the chicken had a burnt flavour to it which overpowered everything else. also ordered the iced cendol drink, i do not know why but it tasted as though there was butter in the drink.....weird.

first week in sydney, confused what to eat (so many choices around) so i decided to play safe & went to this place (reccomended by many friends).

taste quite similar to home country, amazing sambal (love the spiciness), the only downside that day was that my ayam goreng kalasan a bit burned (usually because of the marinate) & tasted a bit bitter.

one of my many visits to come when i miss my country food & sambal 🇲🇨

kangkung , grilled chicken, nasi goreng , ox tail soup are highly recommended😍

we think it's too cheap for the quality of food it is offered 👍

the queue is too long on the weekend. if you come with kids, try to go early

quick, tasty n cheap!
our (and also to many others) favourite place for indonesian style chicken, ayam 99 never fails to disappoint except when they're closed 😛
the grilled chicken is always cooked to perfection; succulent, full of flavour with just enough char.
the coconut rice and fried tempe is a fine complement to the chicken, and their house made sambal 😶 is spicy as but it hits all the right spots.
if you can fit it all in their stir fried rice noodles (bihun) are also a delight with the wok fried aroma -if you can't just doggy bag it.
i would say it's the only place in sydney for indonesian grilled chicken, don't bother with the others.

👅taste-wise : reminds you of hometown.
💰price-wise : standard.
🙇🏻♂️staff treatment : normal.

kesini dengan kakak saya, kami pesan ayam bakar, petai goreng, dan soto betawi. rasanya enak, cukup untuk mengobati rasa kangen cita rasa indonesia.

their charcoal grilled chicken is my favourite along with their satay chicken with that amazing peanut sauce that you can't find anywhere else in sydney. i also love their egg-yolk satay. place can get really crowded especially during lunch and dinner time.

our melbourne friends recommended this place, with the rating above 4 it definitely got our attention. we went for a dinner on friday around 7pm and the place was full! but the wait wasn't long. all food looked great, we wanted to order everything but we decided to try the ayam goreng, ayam kalasan, pepes teri, ampla and kangkung. we enjoyed the food, almost similar to home. although the sambal was too spicy for us 😁

a very handy tips from other customer: you can order the food over the phone before you arrive 😉

still my favorite indo restaurant for grilled chicken, tempe goreng, and kangkung. even though it's called ayam goreng (fried chicken) i don't order the fried chicken here. the sambal is awesome too and you can even buy it in jars.

best ayam goreng / indonesian fried chicken in sydney. trust me, i'm indonesian. their chili is very spicy, close to the traditional indonesian chili. they also have indonesian nasi uduk which is perfect to eat with the fried chicken. eating here reminds me of my hometown.

i have been frequenting ayam goreng ever since i have come to sydney - way back in 2002! ayam goreng is bahasa for fried chicken. best chicken on the planet! go for the dada (breast). i love the ayam bakr - grilled chicken. fast customer service. the sambal here is out of this world. best combination is nasi uduk (coconut rice) with ayam bakr. you can byo - there's no corkage! halal meat served.

as an indonesian, i can say that the taste is spot on and absolutely reminiscent of home (the only thing missing is some deep-fried cabbage). the chicken is tender and well-seasoned. the place is somewhat small and cramped, but hugely popular so expect a line at the door.
