saturday evening well spent! arrived at this place around 8pm and saw around 8ppl queueing outside the place. you gotta walk in and put your name down so they can call you in when they find a table for you. the wait was around 15mins for me and my buddy.

we ordered its well known ayam goreng-fried chicken (as the place suggests) and ayam bakar (charcoalgrilledchicken). they also serve my favorite dish, fried tripe! we also got some rice to go along with it. for drinks, we ordered es teler.
the order didn't take long to arrive. both chicken were well marinated however it was a little too dry. i have been eating these type of meals in indonesia, its origin, and the chicken shouldn't be that dry. it tasted pretty authentic though in terms of spices.
tripe was tender and not so oily.
we had some tempeh and tahu to go with it too. oh! we ordered sayur asam (sour soup) to moisten our digestion. it was sleek.

the sambal is important. it is good. spicy level 4/5.

es teler was average. a bit too sweet but for 5bucks, what do you wanna complain about. lol.

the menu looks a bit old, can do a bit of design updates and photos but man, i think they dont really need to since people are still queueing to eat there!

overall, yes worth a try. definitely would come back and try other things.

i've managed to try all three of the chicken varieties available here and chose the chicken breast. the three options were the charcoalgrilledmarinated chicken, deep fried marinated chicken and the fried marinated chicken javanese style.

in all three versions, even though the chicken breast didn't look like much from the outside, i found that the chicken was very tasty and cooked to a tender texture and the flavours were quite well infused into the chicken pieces and provided for a hearty meal. the accompanying chilli sambal sauce also added a good kick to the whole meal and i actually finished the steamed rice with only the chilli sauce added to the rice. i tried the petai goreng (fried smelly sator beans) once, which seemed a little flat in terms of flavour but were nevertheless a good accompaniment to the main chicken breast meal which had more than enough deep flavours.

the place was quite busy and obviously popular, i just did a take-away order as there weren't any spaces available inside. service was quite friendly and efficient (with under a ten-minute wait for the meal despite being very busy at the time) but i found the main attraction to be the fried chicken (ayam goreng).

long been a favourite of the family since moving to the east in 1999, this place has maintained its post of one of the bestgrilledchicken in sydney. their pepes are also excellent, along with the sayur asem which is also up there with the best (sorry mum). while the water spinach (kangkung belacan) is really good, it's a bit of an eyesore to see it being charged at around $10. i guess coming from an indonesian family myself, the prices seem steep to us, but are actually quite a steal compared to the average fare. don't expect the best decor though, it's a bit run down but the flavour more than makes up for this

i know this place is an institution, but i have never been before tonight. my husband tells me he used to go here during uni days (which was a long long time ago). it’s a good thing we came just before 6pm as there was already a long queue and we just made the first seating.

we came with friends who are indonesian and regulars, so we let them do the ordering. as usual, they always over order so our table was heaving with food. theirgrilledchicken was tasty and i liked their rice vermicelli noodles with chicken. my son liked the fried rice that was ordered. there was soups andgrilledtofu wrapped in leaves and mushrooms wrapped in leaves. the ran out of coconut rice so we ordered their white rice with rendang beef which was tough. maybe as the prices were big but the sauce itself was very tasty. the indonesian chilli is very spicy, so be careful when trying it the first time.

we tried to eat as quickly as possible as we got the table right next to the door so we could see the people looking in wanting a table.

interesting place! when you order, they give you a piece of paper and write down your own order, which i actually like because then there is no confusion about what you're ordering. we got 2x pieces of charcoalgrilledmarinated chicken (thigh) which was the star dish $13. bakmie goreng (stir-fried egg noodle) $12 – noodles had a chewy and firm texture! also had a classic nasi goreng $13. the place is byo too! go-reng your friends and set up a dinner! definitely the kind of place you would bring your mates for a casual feed. probably wouldn't take a date here unless you're both really chill!

i love the food here, service is prompt and i could always rely on good indonesian food. charcoalgrilledchicken is so tender along with chicken satay skewers. i even love their nasi goreng and stir fried vegetables. its great that they also offer fried tofu and tempeh.

a mediocre taste of indonesia.  at least the $6.50 serves of chicken are big, so you could build a cheap meal easily, but i wanted a big brunch (and the restaurant was already busy 15 minutes after opening) so i ordered fried chicken andgrilledchicken. both had somewhat tough meat, the fried chicken had thin tasteless batter and the sauce on thegrilledchicken was surprisingly bland. their sambal has quite a kick but not much flavour. even the tempe was tough and tasteless and the watermelon juice was very watery. i was hoping that this would take me back to my travels in indonesia and timor but it would surely be considered a low-end warung over there.

the always busy restaurant in kingsford. had lunch here on sunday afternoon, queue for about 20 minutes. ordered the charcoalgrilledchicken with kangkung. chicken 🐓 is always the same tasty. together with the chilli and sweet soy sauce, what a bomb. kangkung was okay nothing really outstanding. service was good, recommended for a cheap yet tasty lunch or dinner.

one of indonesian restaurant in kingsford area that serving decent indonesian food.
we ordered :
sate ayam ( chicken satay ) which was good, however not outstanding. meats are so tiny, and accompanied with peanut sauce and fried onion with kecap manis ( sweet soy ) drizzled on top.
flavour wise, it was good and tasty.
came with what they called, rice cake. ( like rice steamed inside banana leaves.)
cah kangkung was nice too, my only complain was a little to oily for the dish.
ayam bakar. (grilledchicken )
i think this was the highlight from what we ordered.
chicken was marinate before hand, and during the cooking prices, what we think is basted with sweet sky mixture. you can see the chicken was nicely basted and caramelized on the skin.
flavour was deep penetrated to the meat, leaving good sweetness from marination combained with charred from the fire during grilling process.
definitely worth to visit if you are on the area.

don't bother trying other dishes like ayam soto or nasi goreng because those are not what ayam goreng 99 are known for. there are three different versions of the awesomegrilledand fried chicken at ayam goreng 99. although they are not as tasty as those which you can find along the streets in jakarta, singapore or kuala lumpur, you can still taste the tenderness, juiciness and the flavour of an authentic grilled/fried chicken. don't ask me which is my favourite because they taste really great. probably a different version for a different weather and a different day of the week.

what's more? the sambal belacan can make you sweat! dump them into your tummy if you want a full, whole day at the bathroom 😆😆

kangkung ,grilledchicken, nasi goreng , ox tail soup are highly recommended😍

we think it's too cheap for the quality of food it is offered 👍

the queue is too long on the weekend. if you come with kids, try to go early

quick, tasty n cheap!
our (and also to many others) favourite place for indonesian style chicken, ayam 99 never fails to disappoint except when they're closed 😛
thegrilledchicken is always cooked to perfection; succulent, full of flavour with just enough char.
the coconut rice and fried tempe is a fine complement to the chicken, and their house made sambal 😶 is spicy as but it hits all the right spots.
if you can fit it all in their stir fried rice noodles (bihun) are also a delight with the wok fried aroma -if you can't just doggy bag it.
i would say it's the only place in sydney for indonesiangrilledchicken, don't bother with the others.
