saturday evening well spent! arrived at thisplacearound 8pm and saw around 8ppl queueing outside the place. you gotta walk in and put your name down so they can call you in when they find a table for you. the wait was around 15mins for me and my buddy.

we ordered its well known ayam goreng-fried chicken (as theplacesuggests) and ayam bakar (charcoal grilled chicken). they also serve my favorite dish, fried tripe! we also got some rice to go along with it. for drinks, we ordered es teler.
the order didn't take long to arrive. both chicken were well marinated however it was a little too dry. i have been eating these type of meals in indonesia, its origin, and the chicken shouldn't be that dry. it tasted pretty authentic though in terms of spices.
tripe was tender and not so oily.
we had some tempeh and tahu to go with it too. oh! we ordered sayur asam (sour soup) to moisten our digestion. it was sleek.

the sambal is important. it is good. spicy level 4/5.

es teler was average. a bit too sweet but for 5bucks, what do you wanna complain about. lol.

the menu looks a bit old, can do a bit of design updates and photos but man, i think they dont really need to since people are still queueing to eat there!

overall, yes worth a try. definitely would come back and try other things.

i've managed to try all three of the chicken varieties available here and chose the chicken breast. the three options were the charcoal grilled marinated chicken, deep fried marinated chicken and the fried marinated chicken javanese style.

in all three versions, even though the chicken breast didn't look like much from the outside, i found that the chicken was very tasty and cooked to a tender texture and the flavours were quite well infused into the chicken pieces and provided for a hearty meal. the accompanying chilli sambal sauce also added a good kick to the whole meal and i actually finished the steamed rice with only the chilli sauce added to the rice. i tried the petai goreng (fried smelly sator beans) once, which seemed a little flat in terms of flavour but were nevertheless a good accompaniment to the main chicken breast meal which had more than enough deep flavours.

theplacewas quite busy and obviously popular, i just did a take-away order as there weren't any spaces available inside. service was quite friendly and efficient (with under a ten-minute wait for the meal despite being very busy at the time) but i found the main attraction to be the fried chicken (ayam goreng).

long been a favourite of the family since moving to the east in 1999, thisplacehas maintained its post of one of the best grilled chicken in sydney. their pepes are also excellent, along with the sayur asem which is also up there with the best (sorry mum). while the water spinach (kangkung belacan) is really good, it's a bit of an eyesore to see it being charged at around $10. i guess coming from an indonesian family myself, the prices seem steep to us, but are actually quite a steal compared to the average fare. don't expect the best decor though, it's a bit run down but the flavour more than makes up for this

not my all time favourite - but still genuine enough to get my patronage. the food is simple and very inexpensive.
it is very popular (th, f, sa) with a short wait time usually between 6pm - 8pm.
the restaurant takes your name on a list until a spare table becomes available.
usually you don't wait more than 15 minutes for a table. there are so many indonesian restaurants in this area, that if waiting is an issue you can usually go to another restaurant if you wish.

i go to this restaurant for the javanese fried chicken called ayam bakar. ask for the breast piece (dada bakar) $6.50. i always eat this with a serving of cah kangkung $10 and a serving of white rice $2.
mix these flavours together for a true indonesian dining experience. the chilli sauce provided at your table is very hot, so use sparingly. it can be mixed with sweet brown ketchup manis sauce.

another dish to try is the nasi goreng. it isn't the best fried rice i have eaten, but it is still tasty.

complimentary free water in a jug is available free of charge.
there are many other different cold drinks available on the menu. my favourite is jus alpukat - this is avocado juice with sweetened condensed milk, and streaks of chocolate syrup down the sides of the glass.

thisplaceis worth a visit if you like tasty indonesian 'warung' style food.

this is the onlyplaceto go if you are looking for authentic indonesian style ayam goreng (fried chicken) the taste is just so good. reminds me of traditional restaurant in jakarta serving fried chicken with nasi uduk coconut rice with fried tofu, tempe and sambal belacan. i prefer their ayam bakar (grilled chicken) though because they are marinated and more spicy to my liking

visited theplacefor the first time today. great food, and it came out quite quickly too considering it was a full house. wanted to give theplace5 stars were it not for the lady taking the order (the one covered in tattoos). seemed like she was in a bad mood, struggled to break a smile and expected me to know how to make an order (ie: writing down what i wanted. i am not familiar with this kind of orderingso was understably confused). i was overly polite and smiled as i made my order. i understand it's a high pressure environment but a smile goes a long way. the lady taking the payment was fabulous. overall a great place. would go back again.

thisplaceused to be our favour indonesian restaurant in town but disappointed that the staff and service let down, food quality is slowly degraded. following experiences happened every time from our last 3 visits, so it’s not one off case.

taste and portion are inconsistent, seems depending how busy they are.

they ignored their queue practices (registering name and a number of people) and always let indonesian speaking customers go first (for same table of 4) 2 or 3 groups came after us are allowed to get in first, we couldn’t stand with this in our last visits so we questioned them but they told liar and said they had already called our name, the fact was we waited right next to the door and had never been called, we looked at each other every time she called customer name.

every visit they mess up our order, either lost or wrong food. we are fine with the wrong order as we have chance to try something new, but missing order kept us waiting for nothing.

few cockroaches found on wall and floor, told the waitress but she wasn’t interested/surprised, simply said they are from the toilet not the kitchen. (not a smart response imo)

the nasi goreng was amazing, along with their signature chilli sauce. the desserts weren’t that amazing in comparison to vietnamese desserts. overall, the staff were on point with getting the food to us on time despite the busy environment. waiting lists were inplaceand worked well to get most customers in line with minimal waiting time. would definitely visit again.

i know thisplaceis an institution, but i have never been before tonight. my husband tells me he used to go here during uni days (which was a long long time ago). it’s a good thing we came just before 6pm as there was already a long queue and we just made the first seating.

we came with friends who are indonesian and regulars, so we let them do the ordering. as usual, they always over order so our table was heaving with food. their grilled chicken was tasty and i liked their rice vermicelli noodles with chicken. my son liked the fried rice that was ordered. there was soups and grilled tofu wrapped in leaves and mushrooms wrapped in leaves. the ran out of coconut rice so we ordered their white rice with rendang beef which was tough. maybe as the prices were big but the sauce itself was very tasty. the indonesian chilli is very spicy, so be careful when trying it the first time.

we tried to eat as quickly as possible as we got the table right next to the door so we could see the people looking in wanting a table.

to be honest the food here is the everyday dishes in indonesia however the dishes here have been perfected the food here is basic as i usually eat the ayam bakar, rice, chilli and tempe . the food here is good as there is no competition to beat ayam goreng 99. however thisplacewill always have a specialplacein my heart. the other good thing about ayam goreng 99 is the sambel as you take the amount you want however if you take away the food it is not as good as you eat it there

interesting place! when you order, they give you a piece of paper and write down your own order, which i actually like because then there is no confusion about what you're ordering. we got 2x pieces of charcoal grilled marinated chicken (thigh) which was the star dish $13. bakmie goreng (stir-fried egg noodle) $12 – noodles had a chewy and firm texture! also had a classic nasi goreng $13. theplaceis byo too! go-reng your friends and set up a dinner! definitely the kind ofplaceyou would bring your mates for a casual feed. probably wouldn't take a date here unless you're both really chill!

slightly overpriced. like $6.5 p/piece of chicken 😵

but the flavour is there. every single dish is authentic and tasty.placewas packed on a sunday night with a line outside. the ambience inside, is old and tacky.

if you’re looking for real indo food, it’s recommended.
