turn the lights on. we recently had out-of-town visitors, which led to a trip to the riverwalk. on debating the "what do you guys want to eat?" question, the decision was unanimously "mexican food". using my iphone urbanspoon app, it was decided to try acenar. the patio was full so the 8 of us took the big table in the middle of the main room. we were given the requisite chips and salsa, which were very good. the wine list was a little sparse, but the food menu really had a lot to offer, so my wife and i decided to share the poquito de todo (a little bit of everything - which i felt was a bargain at $34) it was basically a mixed fajita skillet and was terrific. lots of seasoning and flavor and the vegetable were cooked perfectly. other dishes around the table were the chicken mole, enchiladas verde (which i thought was the best thing i tasted here), gulf fish tacos, and carnitas. everything was brought out on time, hot & fresh, and the flavors and smells were marvelous all around. our waiter was very friendly and efficient, although i felt he was working too many tables, but we didn't suffer for it, which speaks highly of him. (i think he did though, poor guy! he was running his tail off.) although a little pricey overall this was an enjoyable dinner on theriverwalkthat i will bring friends and family to again, but i'm going to make sure we get a table out on the patio next time, as we really had to strain to see what we were eating, as they keep the lighting inside very muted for some reason. (ambiance, mood, tone - pick one) regardless of that small detail, this is a pleasant place to eat some really good mexican food.
