had a good experience here. it's been several years since last visit since i avoidriverwalkproper for the most part. service was okay but as expected for the riverwalk. food and drink was good. drinks overpriced but again as expected for this part of the riverwalk. would definitely bring out of town guests here for a good time.

excellent! offers a great, more-than-casual atmosphere that is a nice haven from the less-than-casualriverwalkcrowds. we came with a party of 150 and received impeccable service, perfectly delicious foods (which is saying something for a fixed menu, catering-styled meal), and subtle details that made the experience complete! super refreshing flavor combos, great fire-roasted salsa, not just anotherriverwalkrestaurant. would i go back? absolutely!

i said yes to my husband and the restaurant!. this place is amazing! the location and decor are excellent. the food is mexican with a twist and very good. this is one of our favorite restaurants on theriverwalkand not to mention, but my husband asked me to marry him there. the service could be a little better trained and more experienced, but over all is a good place to return time and time again.

absolutely wonderful!. i was a bit nervous going here due to mixed reviews, but i am so glad i did! get a seat by theriverwalkand relax with great food. their chips are thick and crunchy, and the salsa was great. i got the fish tacos and they were the best i've ever had! the seasoning on them was just fantastic, the rice was fresh, and i even ate the black beans, which were also seasoned well. the whole meal was just wonderful

when ever we are forced to take out of towners to theriverwalkfor texmex this is the only place i will consider. we have eaten several times and the service ranges from ok to great depending on how busy they are. the menu can please the yankees looking for the plain texmex fair like enchiladas and fajitas. likewise, there are some interesting twists involving duck and other exotic ingredients. the restaurant is up above theriverwalknext to houston street which is no some much traveled by the golden hoards of tourists and conventioneers which makes for a less noisy and more pleseant dining experience. weekends and large conventions = reservations and prickly pear margaritas are must!!

expansive riverside dining. most restaurants on theriverwalkhave a sliver of sidewalk for dining; not acenar -- there is a broad patio which allows a comfortable distance between tables. loud, loud though -- even outdoors. my cochinito de pibil tasted very heavily of vinegar. i would't order it again. chips are brought to the table in cones that are typically used to serve frittes. the chips are salty and delicate -- very delicious and addictive.

turn the lights on. we recently had out-of-town visitors, which led to a trip to the riverwalk. on debating the "what do you guys want to eat?" question, the decision was unanimously "mexican food". using my iphone urbanspoon app, it was decided to try acenar. the patio was full so the 8 of us took the big table in the middle of the main room. we were given the requisite chips and salsa, which were very good. the wine list was a little sparse, but the food menu really had a lot to offer, so my wife and i decided to share the poquito de todo (a little bit of everything - which i felt was a bargain at $34) it was basically a mixed fajita skillet and was terrific. lots of seasoning and flavor and the vegetable were cooked perfectly. other dishes around the table were the chicken mole, enchiladas verde (which i thought was the best thing i tasted here), gulf fish tacos, and carnitas. everything was brought out on time, hot & fresh, and the flavors and smells were marvelous all around. our waiter was very friendly and efficient, although i felt he was working too many tables, but we didn't suffer for it, which speaks highly of him. (i think he did though, poor guy! he was running his tail off.) although a little pricey overall this was an enjoyable dinner on theriverwalkthat i will bring friends and family to again, but i'm going to make sure we get a table out on the patio next time, as we really had to strain to see what we were eating, as they keep the lighting inside very muted for some reason. (ambiance, mood, tone - pick one) regardless of that small detail, this is a pleasant place to eat some really good mexican food.

one of the best on the river. if you live in sa, you know most of the restaurants on theriverwalkare not worth the trouble. acenar is one of the few exceptions, great food, beautiful patio and really cool bar.
