the setting is great for a night out on the town. it was very busy so booking is essential.
we ordered a few things for the table, starters were yummy especially the crispy chicken. the mains were the duck, green curry and hapuka, winning dish was the hapuka. only negative is that there were so many bean sprouts in the dishes. i love bean sprouts but there can be too many.

we ended up going for dinner here on a monday night recently when we had a friend visiting auckland from overseas. we arrived around 6.30pm to be greeted by a particularly grumpy female staff member at the entrance who practically barked at us for not having a booking despite the place being around three quarters empty. once we were seated, things started looking up. we ordered some prawn crackers and edamame beans to snack on, and some dumplings to start. all were delicious. then things started to go downhill again. i ordered a glass of bubbles and when it arrived it was probably the smallest glass of bubbles i've ever had at a restaurant and definitely not worth what i paid for it. then my pad thai main course arrived and it was probably the worst pad thai i've ever eaten in my life. i've had far better pad thai for $10 up the road in food alley! it was tasteless, aside from what seemed like too much lime. our friend ordered a fish curry which he said was ok, but there didn't seem to be a lot of fish or sauce in his dish. the place got busier as the evening went on, and the atmosphere was nice and buzzy. the décor and location also get top marks. overall a disappointing meal though, and not sure we'll go back.

white&wongs in the viaduct harbour give you a taste of the asian fusion cuisine.
the dumplings (prawn and shiitake mushrooms), the pork hock and the sashimi are very good presented.
the place is very well designed with a nice ambient music although can be very crowded and noisy.
the only downside in this restaurant is the price. it can be become very expensive for asian food.

a delicious saturday night meal with great views too. our personal favourites were the korean fried chicken - super succulent and crispy, the prawn toast with yuzu mayo, the crystal skin prawn and coriander dumplings, and the char siu pork and prawn fried rice. the only disappointment would be the roti roll with bang bang chicken that was soggy, and not enjoyable to eat. overall though, enjoyed our meal a lot, and would definitely come back to try some more :)

white & wong’s is situated at the waterfront and serves delicious asian fusion cuisine at an instagrammable level of presentation. the steamed buns and dumplings are similar to ones you can get from yumcha and they also have a selection of curries to choose from.

the baos are also very popular and highly recommended by the waitress. the food is nice, but i wouldn’t pay so much for chinese food. although the service and location of the restaurant makes up for it.

we came here for the restaurant month deal.
the starter was prawn crackers, an asian classic. for entree there was kingfish sashimi, i think, it was fresh. we also had prawn dumplings and wagyu beef siu mai.
the prawns were very very fresh compared to yum cha and the skin of the dumpling was thin, light and even. definitely an upgrade from your standard yum cha. the siu mai was different, but my personal preference is pork.
we also got the chicken gua bao and the pork belly gua bao from the menu. these two were definitely the highlight of the night. amazing flavours and textures. the pork belly was to die for: perfectly crispy skin and soft melt in your mouth pork.
the main was a red curry with coconut and beef. not to my tastes as i don’t like coconut.
dessert was light and fresh. a good ending to a heavy meal.
the waitress was super friendly and cheerful the whole night. a pleasure to be around.

went as a walk in on friday for dinner. i had heard good reviews and wanted to check it out. ambience was pretty nice.
the waiter at the front was a bit rude with the way he explained there were limited tables available. we were happy to sit at a high table which was fine. the waitress that served us at the table was really helpful and friendly tho. we had cocktails which were really good!
was disappointed with the food... ordered a padthai which was almost white and used flat wide rice noodles. we had the crispy pork which was way way waaaay too salty!!!! was also way too expensive for the portion.
oh had oysters as entrees which was very nice! the chilli sauce was a different touch from the normal vinegarette. i was extremely disappointed with the food and if i was to return would probably only go for cocktails?

loved this place. we shared the pork belly bao, salt and pepper squid, tofu curry and steamed rice. the steamed buns were so soft and fluffy, and the squid crispy and perfectly cooked inside. but the curry was the higlight.

couple of weeks back we had a company lunch here and had the banquet set lunch. i got my own vegan banquet set lunch and wow...was it amazing. not only did i get the same amount of dishes as my colleagues but i had it to myself as well. everything was delicious but special mentions to the dry soba noodle salad, the crispy wontons and the curry tofu bowl. i was so full and so satisfied. thank you for your thoughtfulness to cater for people like me with dietary requirements!

cool environment although we all thought it was too dark and way too loud. the crowd was already loud so the extremely loud music isn’t necessary. food took time to arrive and we didn’t receive all food that we ordered. my pad thai was way way too salty, like couldn’t enjoy it even i tried. other food was fine but won’t be returning anytime soon.

finally got to try out this highly-recommended restaurant, which had been in my bookmarks list for many months! we went on a sunny wednesday afternoon (approx 12pm) for a birthday lunch and felt like we got the best table even though we hadn't booked beforehand.

we managed to get a table outside by the water and enjoy the sun as well as the view, which was perfect despite the weather being a bit chilly. the inside of the restaurant was also set out really nicely, with lanterns hung across the ceiling which would look great in the evening!

the service was impeccable, with all staff being very helpful and attentive. i had brought a cake in, which the lady at the door was more than happy to hold for me. another lady took our order and helped us decide how much food to order - we were planning on ordering every vegetarian dish however she told us that the other dishes would be quite filling between the two of us. she also mentioned that she can place an order for an extra dish after if we decided we needed more, which was great! the food came out surprisingly fast considering the afternoon rush had started and the restaurant was starting to fill up - definitely indicates how popular this place is!

between the two of us we ordered the edamame beans, vegetarian wontons, korean fried tofu roti roll, and fried tofu pad thai. we also wanted to get the penang curry, however we decided to save that for next time, and instead got a second lot of tofu roti rolls. each of the dishes were really good, particularly the roti rolls which were full of flavour and the crispiness of the rotis went perfectly with the silky inside of the tofu pieces! the pad thai didn't quite meet our expectations as it had quite a distinct lemon taste - more than we'd prefer - and was the only downside of our lunch.

throughout our meal waitresses refilled our glasses of water often and made sure we were happy with our food which was great. after lunch the waitresses brought out the cake and even offered a candle and lighter, as i had forgotten them at home. the staff were genuinely lovely and definitely made our experience even better! in terms of price, the restaurant was a lot more reasonable than we expected, with our multiple dishes (and a drink) only coming up to $85 (including cakeage fee of $3 pp). can't wait to come back again!

white and wong's is absolutely beautiful. you can decide to share a number of the dishes, which is ideal situation. or you can have a couple of small or large sized dishes. either way you won't be disappointed, but if you have a large group it pays to book in advance as they get busy fast!! staff are great, just let them know if you have any dietary requirements!
