white and wongs, one of the newer asian fusion restaurants to pop up in auckland. after trying their food at street eats, and impressed by their bang bang chicken roti roll, it is only natural to hit up their restaurant. chilli eggplant roti roll. i’m in two minds about how i feel about the restaurant and here is why:

great food, great atmosphere, amazing waterfront view. asian fusion is definitely quite on trend these days and white & wong's does an amazing job of it! we've come here twice now and both times we have not been disappointed. the soft shell crab and the john dory curry are a must try, the lemongrass chicken was a family favourite and the peking duck was "better than a chinese restaurant", quote my chinese grandparents!

ordered some dumplings to begin which were divine (prawn, chicken, and beef). tried the green curry with chicken for the main which was delicious! a bit too much for me however so didn't have any space for dessert :(

dined here with my sister tonight, this place is in a gorgeous spot looking out to the viaduct, the decor and ambience is lovely. upon arrival the staff weren't overly welcoming, there were a bunch of them standing and chatting that didn't even acknowledge us. one staff member did greet us and gave us a choice of tables, the menu is extensive and designed for sharing which i liked. my sister and i shared pork & beef dumplings, steak tatare, the half roast duck, pork buns & a mince & beans side. the wait for food was really reasonable, however everything came out at once so there was very little space on our table to fit everything (first world problems right) i wasn't too keen on the beans dish but i thoroughly enjoyed all the other dishes. i also found the pricing very reasonable for the location and quality of food. i would highly recommend white and wongs & i look forward to returning.

looking for a place to eat, we stumbled across this place and decided to try it out. the food, the atmosphere, the service were top notch. we ordered some chicken and lemongrass buns, some lamb curry and some prawn crackers.
the food was amazing, especially the lamb curry! the meat was tender and fresh. service was very attentive but not too intrusive. understandably, it was very busy on a saturday night, but meals came out in good time and we didn't have to wait very long. definitely will be back as this place offered great meals with very pleasant service.

food: i thought that the food was a bit better than average. the night started off really well with the entre's however the mains and dessert were just ok, don't get me wrong, they were still yummy and we could definitely finish them but they could've been better.  we had the restaurant  month deal, which came with a lot of food for just $55 per person. really enjoyed the tuna and kingfish for the starters or raw/cold cuts, they were delish! the dumplings and buns were ok, i have had better at yum char places. the roti roll and egg foo yung sounded nice and it was but we were expecting more. for dessert we had the donuts and sundae. the donuts were okay, a bit too hard and chewy on the outside and not enough custard in the middle but the inside was nice and fluffy. the sundae was wonderful, perfect way to finish a meal. overall, i think the food was yummy but there was just something missing, there was no wow factor in any of the dishes.

service & ambience: they were both on point. lovely ambience, not too loud and too dark.

i would consider coming back here and trying out the other dishes. one of the reasons we got the restaurant month deal was because there was just way too many things to choose from, i guess that was another downside to the menu.

beautiful food. fantastic, fast attentive service without being on our backs
favourite dish was crispy pork hock. roti, bao and pad thai did not disappoint.
menu provides a lot of options, so a good idea to go with a bigger group of hungry people.
can't wait to return.

we met our daughter at this restaurant for dinner. all three of us were very impressed with all aspects of white and wongs. the ambience was great, the service was excellent and the food was right up our alley.

the menu was extensive and we pretty much stuck to sampling the starters. i love this style of tapas dining and when combined with a range of asian flavours it was a winner in our books. particular favourites were the peking duck, the bang bang chicken roti and the crispy pork.

we are looking forward to going back and enjoying a summers evening here.

not a place that i would normally dine at as very few fusion restaurants have impressed me, so it was through invitation that i dined at white & wongs.

arriving, it was quite apparent that white & wongs have a focus for drinks due to the bar size and 4 staff stationed within the bar.

we were promptly seated when we arrived and we all noted that the ambience and visuals of white & wong was smart, relaxing, and fun.

they have an extensive menu so i suggest asking the wait staff for suggestions--our waitress was particularly helpful. we ordered a vegetarian curry, the tofu guo bao, stir fried noodles, chicken wings and indian onion rings to share.

our orders came out one at a time which i thought was disappointing because it would be nice to have all our dishes at once.

we were a little worried about the portions of the tapas but they weren't terrible at all. the hand pulled noodle was my favourite: the noodles were chewy and flavoursome, whilst the beef and bacon used were succulent and tender. there was a little bit of kick with chili but overall a lovely combination.

chicken wings were great and the sauce that they used really complimented the chicken and was also a favourite.

quite a nice spot for a drink and catch up, the food was above-average quality and was tasty however, in all honesty, i think that the price you pay is little high for the food you get. for example you can get the exact same chicken at the night market for 6-9 dollars.

showstopper: curry and hand pulled noodles.

overall grade: b

a big disappointment for the third time.
the food was lovely , but not amazing , but it was the service that has let it down for me every time!!!
the first visit was lunch, the waitress' must have had a very hard night , she should have stayed in bed.
tonight we had to go through a training at the table as to how the waiter should open our bottle of champagne , the waitress teaching even applauded .
i go out to enjoy fine food , wine and service and i've really given this place a good go.
wouldn't recommend if you want good service in particular

such a great extensive menu i'd be surprised if you can't find anything to like! the massaman curry, duck pancakes and oysters (see photo) were favourites right down to the desserts. we went here for a group lunch and everyone loved it - definitely sharing place.

asian fusion restaurants seem to be flooding auckland these days. that's not necessarily a bad thing but you've gotta be pretty damn good at your craft to stick out from the pack. with white & wongs i think they've got a bloody good thing going on.

service wise the night started off a bit rough. we were seated and given food and drink menus. it was a good 10-15min until we were seen again to order drinks, awkwardly long. that was the only blip of the night. the remainder of the evening was a steady flow of delicious food, drink and good company. the service got a lot better as the night progressed. standout dishes of the night was the pork hock starter and the clam main dish was so, so good.

would dine again definitely.

white & wongs! firstly, what a unique name and great location! i came here two months after it was open andthe food was great! the service could've been better as the wait staff didn't know the menu well but that's understandable as they were fairly new. dishes came out in a timely fashion. i highly recommend the oysters! the chili jam with oysters is just an amazing combination! overall this place is pretty good except for the dark lighting (i could hardly see the menu!) and if you visit this restaurant be sure to check out their toilet! you'll be amazed 😉
