the first, and last, time that we visited west juliett was with m and i was suitably impressed so was happy to return. being a sunny long weekend morning, there was quite a crowd waiting for tables but luckily, we only had to wait about 20 mins before we were seated and presented with the menu. once again, the listing of many fresh and tasty dishes made ordering quite hard. eventually i opted for the eggs and lentil dish. usually it comes with olive oil fried eggs but i wasn't in the mood for that so, inspired by my recent date with a barista (who assured me that hospitality are normally happy to alter dishes, as long as you aren't obnoxious about it), i asked for the eggs to be poached instead and the kitchen happily obliged. to tie me over until my meal arrived, i sipped on a blueberry basil yoghurt smoothie, which was as delicious as it sounds and creamy enough to keep the hunger pangs at bay.
eventually our dishes arrived: w's healthy colourful salad, and my less-healthy (but still pretty healthy) eggs. the braised lentils made eating it with a knife and fork a bit tricky, akin to picking up rice with chopsticks (i'll be honest: i use a spoon at home) and i felt like i was getting a measly amount of food with every bite - making the dish feel somewhat unsatisfying. this was especially the case given all the good stuff was buried under a layer of rocket, which whilst adding to the healthiness of the dish, didn't contribute much in the way of taste and could have been done away with. i am clearly not a fan of salad for the sake of salad - but can you really call chucking one variety of leaf onto a plate a 'salad'? same with the sprinkling of parmesan, which was stingy such that you couldn't really taste it. this now sounds like a very scathing review, but i enjoyed my smoothie and w's salad was apparently good - i just wouldn't order my dish again but i'd still return for a third visit.
