[invite] bianca: i’ve had marrickville stalwart west juliett on my hit list for many years. mainly due to their famous salted choc chip cookie. the inspiration for my favourite go-to recipe, my pink salt choc chip cookies. its charm lies in its complete unpretentiousness, it’s a suburbancafein a residential area doing a roaring trade.

just east of romeo and west of juliett;. on the corner of llewellyn and juliett street in the bustling coffee “district” of marrickville (although the whole of sydney is a café eating, coffee consuming population) lays one of my personal favourite cafes west juliett. with its large industrial styled kitchen and indoor and outdoor seating divided by large windows and bench seats , this café fills this corner perfectly; allowing people (vegetarians included) to drop in for a take away or sit down and devour the deliciousness of the meals on the menu.

very misleading menu and description. thiscafestates it’s got vegan options and is vegan friendly. when i arrived there was literally nothing on the menu that was vegan. not even one dish could be made vegan without removing the main components to it. when i asked the waitress if they had a separate vegan menu she didn’t even know what veganism was. i was told to order the “eggs benedict without the eggs, meat or hollandaise sauce” hahaha- $19 for plain bread. what a joke.

very nicecafewith good food and rich and creamy coffee and small outdoor tables under a wide awning so were useful during both the sun and the rain that we got. it's very expensive though and there's not much small, or even medium for that matter - 3/4 of the menu is over $20.

wish i lived in marrickville so i could regularly go to this cafe! it’s such a beautiful neighbourhoodcafewith some very flavourful dishes. we could smell how good the shakshuka was the minute they placed the dish on our table. it paired so well with the turkish bread, and was so perfect for those colder mornings. the waffles were so soft and not too sweet, but still very delicious.
only downside was the cookie wasn’t as soft and chewy, which is what i usually prefer, but it was still good especially with the addition of the salt!

this busy cornercafehas been popular for years. i have been here numerous times for breakfast and brunch and each time the food was delicious. on the most recent visit, a friend and i shared some scrambled eggs and lots of sweets which look so tempting every time you walk in. the eggs were nice as were the sweets. the chocolate brownie was rich & moist & had cranberries in it which was unexpected but nice. the pineapple muffin was strange and tastes very plain but good if you didnt want anything too sweet. the standout was the salted choc chip cookie which was so good and the hint of salt was perfect. coffee was average and i had ordered soy but got normal milk which was changed after i pointed it out. however service was a bit abrupt & unfriendly and it made me feel unwelcome which is a pity.

west juliett is a classy littlecafewith a great atmosphere to accompany it.
that’s not all this quaint little place had, superb dishes and outstanding coffee! luckily i got to try two great dishes. smashed avocado - poached eggs, hazelnut dukkah, feta, pomegranate, lemon oil, watercress, toasted sourdough add bacon and the portobello mushroom benedict - sautéed kale, poached eggs, truffle hollandise, toasted sour dough and of course i had to add bacon.
the dish that won me over had to be portobello mushroom benedict. i love mushrooms and these portobellos were phenomenal. so fluffy and big with an earthy flavour. they were brilliantly paired wit truffle and hollandaise sauce. the bacon was super crispy and tasty, date i say, the best i’ve ever had.
also the coffee was a big hit with me. it was so good that i needed another. had to also try the sparkling house made soda - passion fruit pulp and lime zest. nice and crisp with a fresh hit which complimented both of the dishes well.

i enjoyed our experience at west juliett.
a great menu to suit all kinds of tastes and the display window has a nice variety of sweet treats which are apparently all gluten-free.

the haloumi and egg roll was the highlight for us. great portion size and the added avocado but it delightful. the roll is full of ingredients so it did get a little messy.
the chicken burger was crispy and salty. i liked the amount of salt but i get that this might not be for everyone.

coffees and juices were great. really enjoyed the freshness of the watermelon juice.

staff were friendly and attentive. top marks to them. when full, thecafeis quite noisy inside.

i would easily come back here for another meal.

west juliettcafehas been on my list of cafes to visit for what seems like forever, with their instagram gallery tantalising with its vibrant breakfasts and healthy salads. with high expectations, i was pleasantly impressed with their food and service, and enjoyed a special of chilli scrambled eggs with prawns and samphire, and prawn oil - a dish bursting with texture and flavour.

i could throw a severed top-knot while blindfolded and hit a decent cafe, from wherever i stood in my neighbouring suburb of marrickville. stumbling across an exceptionalcafehowever, occurs far less often, in any suburb. west juliett is one of those exceptions. i’d arrived late for lunch the day before, and had begrudgingly sipped my coffee, with my beady eye and pursed lids fixated on the lonely kitchen as if to scorn its closure. little did i know my anger would – in actuality – reach its peak the following day, when i returned to eat.

a very popular brunch spot set on a suburban street in inner west sydney. i have heard so many good things about thiscafebut i honestly felt it is over-hyped and the meal left me rather disappointed. the menu is quite small with simple, classic breakfast items and, salads and sandwiches for lunch. the interiors itself were lovely and the staff were also friendly. if you are looking for a fuss free, classic breakfast but don't feel like cooking, then this place is for you. but for me eating out is an special occasion, where i want to try something new or something i wouldn't or don't know how to make at home. thus thiscafejust doesn't meet my mark. i sadly did not try any of their sweets which i have also heard are amazing as they didn't have many left in the afternoon.

a great vibrantcafeserving delicious authentic food, good strong coffee and divine desserts! service is friendly, down to earth and its love-thy-neighbour spirit all the way!

the smashed avocado is super popular, but i loved the green bowl salad with aburi flame torched salmon. the ‘waffle’ and the ‘choc-chip cookies’ are insanely fantastic!👍

thiscafeis nestled on the corner of llewellyn and juliett street, in marrickville. (arrive before the lunch rush or just after if you want a parking spot and a table).

thiscafeis a popular one amongst the locals, and i can see why with their mouthwatering coffee! mmm.. i’m craving it just thinking about it.

i’ve know thiscafefor a long time now, and some may have noticed the new menu! the cafehas recently been taken over. they used to be famous for their fresh salads, house-made lemonades and sandwiches. i can happily say their farm fresh produce is still delicious, and the new menu has a good range of dishes.

their coffee is almost better than before and the smashed-avo and slow-cooked lamb were very yum!

definitely one of the best cafes in the inner west!  always go here for a coffee or fresh breakky (avo on toast).

while their healthy menu options are delicious but they also have tasty burgers and sides for those who needs more to their meals.

well worth a visit and try out their waffle and burgers. i need to visit again to try their pancakes.
