i visited villa maya on a december afternoon and maybe that's why the heat didn't bother me (read a lot of reviews complaining about the heat). we took a seat outside and i absolutely loved the ambience. it is hands down one of the most beautiful restaurants in the country. the food was quite decent if not extraordinary and the portion could be better. what really needs some work is their service. overall, villa maya is my favorite place tovisitin trivandrum. one shouldvisitit atleast to experience the ambience if not for the food.

the ambience is breathtaking, and a perfect venue for a romantic dinner, or if you want to propose. the service is sophisticated, and there is a live band playing classical music. the food is good, not top class, but good enough. nonetheless, i really enjoyed my time, and i’ll definitelyvisitwhen i’m in kerala again.

we visited villa maya on 6th jan 2021. this was our firstvisitto this restaurant, i was accompanied by my wife and parents. every one liked the taste with special mention of crispy fried prawns and syrian beef fry which were awesome 👌. their welcome drink was really refreshing. the service not to mention was very accommodating considering request from my elderly parents. they had maintained social distancing and all other norms as required. being a heritage restaurant its bit costlier than others in this area. they have enough parking space in side the property.

showed up on the mustvisitrestaurant search and was definitely worth it. loved the ambience... distancing and sanitisation protocols were in place... wonderful service & mouth watering good.

went with gattu ki galauti... a melt in the mouth pumpkin kabab with semolina flat bread. very flavourful and tasted amazing with the pineapple, mint and apple chutneys.
thai soup with chicken and mushroom was a bit heavy for my liking, add some rice and voila you have some thai red curry. can't complain on the taste though.

for main course we had the villa maya mutton biryani and kodumpuli fish curry. biryani was flowy and well cooked however lacked the character of a nice hyderabadi dum biryani.. for 800 bucks a plate, was a bit on the expensive side.
the fish curry though with generous amounts of cocum and wel cut pieces was a sea food delight.
chocolate coffee fudge with caramel and ice cream was what was suggested and didn't disappoint. the

overall experience was 4.5/5.

i have to say, i was rather excited tovisitthis venue. it would quite possibly be the world luxury award (wla) winning restaurant, i would have visited in kerala.
the ambience was breath taking. a beautiful blend of old world heritage and sophistication; wonderfully paired with food prepared using modern techniques.

i had walked in to the premises in awe only to have that facade ripped wide open by the way the staff addressed us. my husband (he is indian, i am not) has often reminded me of the cultural and linguistic barriers in india. i would like to chalk this up to that. however, i would like to point out that a restaurant that has numerous wla, should most certainly have the best customer service... not the cold, sleepy, shoulder shrugging condescending approach that we faced. (it took them 45 mins to get us water)

i digress, the menu is plentiful. it is both exciting and familiar at the same time. the description of the dishes truly does get ones mouth salivating. my husband did point out the difference between nirachathu and narachathu... the former i believe means stuffed / filled and the later means gone grey / faded. i believe the later was a typo. nevertheless, such oversights shouldn’t be expected in the menu of a wla winner.

the food was decent but lacked the promised sophistication of the venue. the flavour was either bland or salty, making it rather unbalanced. the worst dish we experienced was the chicken freakazoid! that chicken was fibrous and tougher than the beef dish we had ordered! it was over cooked to the point that the chicken didn’t know it was a chicken anymore! having said that, the sauce of the dish was palatable and to point of being moorish.
the desert was a beautiful spectacle with the theatre of pouring the toffee caramel and the melting of the chocolate structure etc.

all in all, i have enjoyed my experience. i would willinglyvisitagain, perhaps after a few months to check in on more items on the menu. hopefully by that time, they would have trained their wait staff to be more engaging with the dinners, to be more attentive to their needs. i really hope these guys improve, i see a lot of potential.

my family and i visited this place on the 1st of january to kick start the new year and also celebrate my dad’s birthday. this place is aesthetically really pleasing. we were really tempted to be seated at the patio or al fresco in presence of the fishes but gave it a pass since it was a sunny day.

they welcome you with a complimentary dish which includes a lemon amla shot and papdi chat. it was really refreshing. the dishes we ordered were-
1. chicken makhmali
2. gulabi tikki
3. chicken fricassee
4. kappa with fish curry
5. nalli biryani
6. coffee chocolate fudge with salted caramel sauce
7. apple and blueberry crumble pie with vanilla ice cream

every dish made us happy. the pineapple chutney that was served along with the starters definitely needs a special mention. don’t give it a miss. the mutton in the biryani was so succulent, soft and falling off the bone which is the way i love it the best.

the next time i am in the city, i’ll definitelyvisitin the evening to dig on the outdoor experience !

great job team villa maya !!

the ambience here is the most striking feature about restaurant. this is a fine dining place and hence it’s expensive. but the food quality and taste does not justify the price unlike other fine dining restaurants.the starters are not very tasty and the quantity is very less. but the main course dishes are amazing and authentic. i surely recommend everyone tovisitthis place once, for the amazing ambience and a chance to click some nice pics.

good ambience, extremely beautiful setting. the outdoor garden/hut seating is a must try. you pay for the sights. food is pretty average and priced atleast 3 tiers above its required price point for the taste. had chicken biryani (average), syrian beef fry (chewy meat), chicken fricassee (pretty good), chocolate milkshake (amul ice cream or cadburys drinking chocolate basically). service is hit or miss and highly inconsistent. used to be an extremely good dining place with emphasis on good food. seems to have disappeared over time. will notvisitagain unless there is a new menu/substantial change.

today was my firstvisitto villa maya after they changed their menu few months back. started off with their complimentary pani puris :d tried the chicken fricassee, sea salt crusted fish fillet, crispy fried prawns , buffalo chicken wings and chicken pasta. all the items were cooked to perfection. the service was great too, special mention to mr. vishakh, who was extremely helpful and also had detailed knowledge of the food we ordered. we were there to celebrate a wedding anniversary and the special gooey chocolate cake given by vm was amazing too.

was looking to spend the afternoon (before i could catch my flight in the evening) and i stumbled upon villa maya. to tell you, i was really amazed by this place. the sheer ambience and attention to customer delight stands out for me. the outside dining area is surrounded by water with fish in it. inside dining area also has a very premium feel to it. i ordered a north indian veg platter and double spice kerala fish dish( do not remember the name, it was above the achari fish tikka). north indian platter included breads, sweets, dal, curry and paneer tikka. the fish dish was very well presented, extremely soft and tasty. it is a must try.

of note, their menu is like a wooden box and opens with the background of the restaurant on the first page. however, all this premium feel in this restaurant does come at a price and here it is quite heavy on the pocket.

lastly, dovisitthe washrooms as well once. you will have amazing views and experience :-p.

value for money - 4/5 ( on the basis of ambience)
ambience - 5/5
food - 5/5
service - 5/5

it is a mustvisitwhen in trivandrum.
