vic's on the river

so i'm extremely upset don't know where to begin anyhow on friday aug 25,2017 a friend called vic's on theriverto make specific reservations for a really special event (mama turning 50) for saturday aug 26,2017 at 7:30. we arrived at vic's on theriverat 7:30 as planned we walk into hostess station and gave the information to which we knew to be correct and the host said there was no reservations for us on saturday in fact they basically looked at us as though we were lying until we produced the receipts( phone call log) they proceeded to say oh it was a mix up on their end they apologized barely with an attitude with no attempt to re compensate us with the mix up on their end and proceeded to say there was nothing they could do but put us on a 2 hr waiting list even though the ball was dropped by vic's on the river. i asked to speak to the manager her name was loree i asked so there is no compensation for the screw up they made she said no sorry 2 hour wait i know we are black and savannah is old south but i honestly felt like they were unwilling to be more help yes because of that if we were white they would've made necessary provisions. sad thing is we drove from the city of atlanta for a main event at vic's on theriverthat never happened i would not wish this sort of treatment on my worse enemy and i really hope this review helps lower their ratings because we are all human beings and deserve to be treated as such no matter the complexion of our skin especially when your in the service business i definitely want to expose the manager loree as a racist pig her name may be laura or lauren she was so rude and not much help at all thanks for a bad time you suck!!!

we chose vic's on theriverfor our wedding reception of ~20 people in june, and from the time we booked, we were very happy with vic's. the service was incredible from the time we arrived, and our guests are still raving about the food. we had a reduced menu for the group, but everything was incredible. the ingredients were very high quality, and everything was prepared perfectly. our waiter kept drinks in everyone's hands and made sure we had everything we needed to make the evening perfect. there was even live piano music from upstairs drifting into the room. they saw to every detail, and we couldn't have asked for anything more.

if you're looking to plan an event, i'd wholeheartedly recommend these guys. seriously. the coordinators were helpful and responsive from day one, and they helped us to put together a menu with all of our favourites and plenty of options for our guests--all while staying in our budget! they even put up our decorations for us and coordinated matching centrepieces for us the day of! we were very impressed with vic's, and we can't wait to return for a romantic dinner for two!

i had somewhat of a hard time choosing where to go for our fancier night out in savannah but ended up going with vic’s on theriverfor a variety of reasons. first, i like water views and theirs was beautiful and second, it was fancy but not in a stuffy kind of way. located right on the ever bustlingriverstreet, vic’s is actually on the fourth floor of a former warehouse building which was built in 1859 (an elevator whisks you up). so being at a higher height, you truly do have a terrific view of the savannah river, although i would recommend requesting a table by the windows when making your reservation.

very relaxed, upscale yet casual atmosphere. food is great and along with boasting a fabulous view of the historic downtown savannahriverand a hospitable staff. highly recommended.

seems they're trying to do better.... party of 10 last night (a thursday) with a reservation for 6:30. waited in bar until all arrived (their idea, not ours) but this is a common restaurant rule. live piano music, nice. but generally, noise level is high. it's an old, high ceiling building.

our server, tanisha, was fabulous, especially as she was serving 8 very festive tennis players and two +1s. she was very attentive, kept the water glasses filled and the table cleared of empty plates. a very sweet young lady.

as indicated in other reviews, food was generally delish. i had sea scallops and risotto, the latter a bit crunchy (ugh). if you're a foodie, fyi, there is much fried food on the menu but you can work around it. the crab beignets (fried) were a disappointment...i mean if you like fried, they're okay but basically, fried dumplings. meh. had some of the pecan encrusted flounder. at our table, this was the star of the evening. it was fantastic with andouille sausage potatoes. others had fried shrimp and hush puppies, shrimp and grits. save your money and go to cap'n d's there.

manager came by table to make sure all was well. he was very nice and seemed sincere. seems they've taken all the negative service reviews to heart and are attempting to effect a change for the better.

plus, great view ofrivertraffic, if you're into such.

great weekend lunch. my family decided to try the restaurant after a local retailer advised vic's was the best dining establishment onriverstreet.
we ordered the jumbo lump crab cake and the roasted tomato bisque soup as our appetizers. the crab cake consisted of local blue crab and came with a chilled mustard cream sauce.
we had one entrée to share and we definitely came out with a winner in the crab stuffed with wild georgia shrimp. the dish was accompanied by a lemon herb sauce, grilled asparagus, and a sweet corn rice pilaf. the shrimp were large and plentiful.
i would definitely stop by this restaurant again when i'm visiting savannah.

party wrecker!. made reservation for my daughters graduation two weeks in advance to find out when we got there they never did it. we were treated very rudely by the host who even called us liars after we explained that sean (the manager) called to confirm our reservation. he refuse to call the manager or to do anything to help us out. so my family (party of 14) that travel from a different country to be here ended up trying to find a restaurant in savannah that could accommodate this many people in such a short notice and in graduation weekend.

so we would like to thank vic's on theriverfor ruining such an important day!!

there’s a restaurant along the savannahriverin georgia that is populated by many. the ambiance conveys southern charm and the staff is generously hospitable, as expected in such a quaint area of savannah.  ladies meet here for cocktails in the lounge, executives gather for power lunches and locals and tourists alike all seem to know that they won’t leave disappointed when they choose vic’s on theriveras their dining destination for whatever event they may be involved. a fun and scenic method of getting to vic’s is to occupy one of the savannah belles ferry’s water taxis from hutchinson island.  just a few minutes is all it takes to cross the mighty savannah river, as the ferry ride is relatively slow-paced.  resembling the crafts that were once seen in the harbor over a hundred years ago, you will feel as thought you’ve been transported back in time when you step aboard. the four-story building that is now vic’s on theriverwas originally used as a warehouse many years ago.  with

great food bad parking. my wife and i chose vic's for dinner last night because we thought it would be perfect ending to a beautiful day in savannah. we started the morning in buying a new car in jacksonville yesterday morning, then droveup to savannah to have dinner at vic's and catch a show after dinner. we were pleased to find valet parking out front (just off ofriverst.) and were quickly seated. our server, well composed, delivered the day's specials with precision and care and inspired us to indulge in the snapper special of the day as well as the seared scallops and risoto. prepared to perfection, we enjoyed every last bite and felt well cared for. so well in fact, that we decided to end our evening right after dinner instead of trying to catch a show afterwards.

that is until the following morning when, to our horror, we discovered the damage to our car that could have only come from the valet at vic's on the river. unfortunately for us, vic's subcontracts their valet service which doesn't seem to be any quality control or accountability to vic's management. how can i be certain the damage occured while under the care of the valet service of vic's on the river? it is simple: we purchased the car yesterday morning, brand new with 44 miles on it and thuroughly inspected it during dlivery. we drove to vic's on theriverand patronized the valet service to have an enjoyable experience from door to door without the hassles of parking. upon surrendering the ticket, the car was returned to us in the dark and the damage went unnoticed because it resembles the glare from headlights or other lights sources on along the edges of body panels on a brand new car. however, it is painfully obvious in the light of day as the scrapes left from impacting an inannimate object (like a wall in a parking structure). how do we know that it didn't occur after leaving vic's? well, since we did not hit anything with our brand new car on the way back to our hotel, and did not park the car any where near anything that could damage it because it is brand new. it is highly unlikely for something resembling concrete came anywhere near the car last night.

the purpose of this review is to praise vic's front of house and back of house staff for a well executed meal and pleasent experience as well as to warn future patrons of vic's subcontracted valet service to closely inspect your vehicle before accepting it from the valet upon its return. we hope that no one has the same experience as we did once we discovered there is no recourse for this occurance and it left a permanent stain on our perception of quality that should come from an establishment like vic's.

worth a visit.. visited savannah earlier this year with my partner, and decided to treat her to a nice meal out. researched vic's in advance and it appeared to have good reviews, so i booked. research paid off!, don't hesitate, you will not be disappointed. don't go if you want a great view of theriverfrom your table, there aren't any! the only views are from the tiny little balconys, so there are no tables outside. now getting back to the food.......its wonderful, and the meatloaf is the best either of us have ever had....fond memories indeed. service is what you would expect from a restaurant of this quality, and they were pleasant. when i return to savannah, i will return to vic's thats for sure.

usually, i like to avoid restaurants located in an obvious tourist trap likeriverstreet, but a bit of preliminary research revealed that vic's on theriverhad possibilities. and, as if it were predetermined, we found a business card for the place on the floor in the hallway of our hotel.

favorite place to dine in savannah! my husband and i have live here for several years, and vic's has te best southern fare and charming atmosphere that you can find downtown onriverstreet. the food is delicious, presentation is superb and the overall dining experience is top notch. try their fried green tomatoes and meatloaf for dinner. you won't be dissapointed!

we tried their food on a whim. right offriverstreet, we were confused on how to get in. the waiters really ruined the moment by not picking up the chairs, but rather dragging them on the hardwood floor. as with many old building, the sound the echoed all over the place.

the fried green tomatoes were horrendous! the food, overall, was bad. we will not be returning to this restuarant
