lives up to the reputation. this was our second visit to vic's, this time to celebrate a special occasion (anniversary). we requested a special table (a couple of days in advance) and the hostess was kind enough to accommodate us.

we started the meal with a glass of champagne each, and were struck with the diversity and great price point of their wine menu. unlike many high-end restaurants, vic's has a great "by the glass" selection, which came in very handy as one of us had fish and the other a rib eye steak. it's also worth noting that they have agoodselection ofgoodquality wines by the 1/2 bottle, another thing that we rarely see at restaurants of this quality.

the food was very good. we started with a crab cake appetizer, which appeared to be 95% lump crab meat as "advertised" by nicky, our delightful server. the crab cake was very good, but surpassing that was the "award winning" crawfish beignet appetizer. the beignet themselves had a complex texture and were complemented perfectly by the crawfish filling and slightly sweet, red pepper syrup.

for mains, one swordfish - perfectly cooked - with a red pepper sauce and green beans (a veggie that is a favourite in savannah, and always well executed). the highlight of the dish, however, was the grits soufflé. easily the best grits ever! piping hot, creamy, laced with niblets of super sweet corn - we'll dream about that dish for a long time.

the other main: a 10 oz. pan seared rib eye with truffle butter, accompanied by a lobster suffed baked potato and sautéed spinach. the steak was done to a perfect rare, and the lobster stuffed potato was absolutely delicious!

we were too stuffed to order a dessert, but never fear. at the end of our dinner nicky arrived with a complimentary praline cheese cake, complete with two candles (one pink, one blue - nice touch!). it was delicious, and just the right amount to share.

we highly recommend vic's. the service and ambience exemplifies savannah's moniker - "the hostess city". we will be back when next we visit savannah.

vic's is an awesome spot on historic bay street. located in an old historic brick building, it has a great view overlooking the river. the inside is impressive; a white tablecloth spot with a casual feel.
food is incredible; eaten here several times and never disappointed. menu has agoodvariety from fresh seafood, steaks to old southern favorites. bar is well stocked and service is spot on, attentive and courteous. nice spot for anything from a business dinner to a romantic outing.
one of the pricier eateries in savannah, but definitely worth it for the experience and the food. reservation is encouraged, as vic's is usually quite busy, even on week nights.

fried green tomatoes - delicious!
crispy fried wild georgia shrimps with french fries and creole cole slaw - delicious. (the ones on grits are also agoodchoice if you like grits)
dessert - wish to have a bigger stomach cause i didn't have a place for that.

this place was recommended to me by one of the local guys. it was a verygooddecision. dishes are huge. i was unable to eat everything. between tomatoes and shrimps they served salad with tasty sauce (i barely touched that since i was already full). service - fast and nice. the atmosphere of this place is awesome. during evening hours you have to wait a bit for a table because this place seems to be a popular one but visiting it was definitely worth waiting.

top spot - this is one of our go-to locations. we travel every week for work, so we're always on the look out for those great, reliable restaurants. this one meets the criteria. it's reliably good, no one has ever had a meal they didn't like. the service is quick without being too fast. the price is high, butgoodfood isn't cheap and cheap food isn't good. my only wish is that the dining room was larger so they could seat more people at once.

the first hostess heard we said we didn't have a reservation and completely dismissed our presence. luckily the other male host talked to us and said he would hook us up and got us a table within 15 min. we got the beignettes to start and they were delicious. the pork chop was def the best meal. the scallops were verygoodas well, just a smaller portion of only 4 scallops. i got the shrimp and grits and although it was delicious; i became completely full within a few bites. super rich. beautiful atmosphere.

very good, withgoodatmosphere.. ...but they need to slow it down.
the place was packed on a saturday night, but we were seated on time. our server was very attentive. hubby had cashew encrusted grouper, and i had the seafood trio. the wedge salad was excellent and so were the cocktails. the appetizers looked tempting, and we will try some next time.
what we did not like, was that we were rushed. we had not even taken more than a sip of our drinks before the salad arrived, and soon after that, our entrees. we were in and out in 40 minutes. if you go, do not order your meal unless you are ready to eat it 5 minutes later.

im a foodie from louisville, ky who and was recently in savannah for my brothers wedding. we arrived in town thursday and decided to take my family out to dinner. since only two of our group have ever been to the city, we decided to google and see what dining options popped up. vic's came up, we called, and they said they could easily get a party of six in within the next few minutes (around 6pm). we arrived (slightly underdressed but respectable looking) and were seated immediately. our waitress was wonderful and patient, taking time to explain the menu. we started with a decent priced wine which was enjoyable and as she described. we decided to split appetizers and selected the fried green tomatoes, oysters rockefeller, and crab cakes. the tomatoes weregoodand the goat cheese added a nice punch. the crab cakes were wonderful, although pricey. im not one for oysters but family said they were good. most of us stuck with the classes wedge salad and it was big enough to be a meal on its own - i enjoyed the bleu cheese dressing. for dinner, three of us had the special - flounder wrapped around crab cake meat topped with a giant shrimp, served with a seared scallop and asparagus in a delicious sauce. the other members of our group ordered scallops and mahi mahi and almost everybody wiped their plate clean. there was simply no room for dessert! overall a great dining experience with wonderful food!

vic's came highly reccomended if i was ever in savannah. i made a few mistakes which made the experiencegoodbut not great. first, i made this a late dinner and they ran out of the dish i came for. the menu had many other choices that sounded asgoodas the first, but then made my second mistake. i chose meatloaf. as soon as i dug into the island sized meal, i thought of ron burgendee from anchorman, this was a bad choice. allgoodrestaurants have that one dish the waiter wished he could tell you not to choose and this is the one at vic's. the tell tale sign, after the fact, was that the meatloaf was covered in vic's famous bbq sauce. that would be agoodthing unless bbq is not found on the menu. i'm not sure if it was bbq or red syrup from the candy store below vic's. which ever it was burned my throat with every bite. extremely kind staff in a romantic setting that included a live singer with piano accompaniment, i must give vic's a second try.

wonderful special night out. after being told there were no reservations at the old pink house before 10pm, we decided to try vic's instead based on recommendations and online reviews...

we got to the restaurant about five minutes early, but were led right away to a small table in the main dining room. no, we did not get a window seat, but we also didn't request one and made the reservations the day of. our table was still quite nice and our waiter was prompt and friendly. we each had a cocktail from the bar which were great, then had french onion soup to start - also quite good. the biscuits that came with dinner were amazing. for entrees, i chose the crab cakes and my husband got friend oysters. the crab cakes were reallygood- with actual pieces of real crab. i don't care for oysters, but my husband really enjoyed his meal as well.

the place was pricey but certainly not outrageous, and the food was pretty darn good. not the best meal of my life or anything, but i would definitely go back. touristy? yes... a lot of underdressed families with young children (which seemed odd because not a very child-friendly menu) but my husband and i had a great night out nonetheless. next time i am in savannah, i would eat here again and definitely try to get a window seat to view the beautiful river.
