two days in a row and visited another fabulous indian restaurant in london.

loved the entrance to the place with the old history it has.

very different to amaya in which this place was very south indian ( which is one of my favorite cuisine ) for the emaratis like me this might not be to there palate although they do have options from north india.

i went for the aloopuri to start with it was excellent followed by a grilled prawns which was again great.

mains went for three curries prawn coconut curry, lobster mango curry , and last but not least a chicken makhani.

all the three curries were fantastic without any complains.

as well we tried the biryani which was ordinary.

ambience 4/5

food 4.5/5

service 4/5?

way overpriced. had the taster menu with drinks, and although the starters were good, the main course was distinctly average. there are many better indian restaurants in london.

wow. the oldest indain restaurant in london . love the place and the food. my favourite item is the 'malwani chicken'. it's a sindhi dish, not too spicy and very flavorful. a great deal of thought goes into any dish and i can tell you every item that i've had there has always hit the spot. oh, and try the chicken bajia, crispy and unique.

an amazing indian food restaurant in the middle of central london...what makes it even more fascinating is the fact that it is the oldest indian restaurant in london. we ordered a three course meal, the chicken bhajiya starter was a pleasant surprise. ..nothing what we had expected. the chicken biryani, prawn curry and chicken masala preparations were different and took us back to authentic flavours of india. and the vallapatnam dessert was out of the world...must must try.....a home away from home. price is on the higher side. meal for four cost us 136 pounds.

okay the ambience and setting is good, but the food taste is extremely ordinary, infact the desserts were appalling to say the least, you can easily find better places to eat the same dishes at half of their price and better taste.. service is nothing special as well... we ordered for tapwater and they served us still and sparkling bottled water for which they charge us £10. when the waiter came in to take to payment, he demanded us to pay for the service charge inspite of it being mentioned discretionary. absolutely shocking behaviour and service from a restaurant which prides itself to be the best indian restaurant... its a farce!!!

this place has an amazing collection of portraits and photographs. the decor is regal.

about the food: its indian so its obviously delicious. if you're going for the first time, don't experiment. stick to what you know is going to be great. cause a lot of the food tastes different than what one would get in india.

would definitely eat here again though. one of the best in london.

being one of the oldest indian restaurants in london, is what got me interested in trying out this place as i love anything which has a sense of history behind it.
the ambience is gorgeous and i love the rose petals kept on the table!
this fancy restaurant can accommodate quite a lot of people however, making a reservation is recommended.
the food was excellent and so was the service. this particular dish that i ordered, called chicken chatpatta was extremely spicy and this is coming from a person who can eat a lot of spicy food. so, try it only if you're ardent about spicy food like myself. the rest of the dishes cater to everyone's palette.
i highly recommend this place, it is officially my new favourite!!

literally , this is the best indian restaurant that has existed!! the ambience ,service , decorations , the vibes and most importantly the food is perfect!! raj kachoori, the appetiser that keeps me burning in the inside when i do not have a taste of it. veeraswamy also does chicken lollipops , they are so delicious and mouthwatering !! a prominent feature of this restaurant is that it serves the right and exact amount of portions per dish!

main courses:

chicken tikka: amazing , tasty , perfect! not even a word could describe its taste !! 😍😍

butter chicken: the best in town!! it comes with 8 pieces of chicken per portion! i am literally okay with eating this my entire life for its unbelievable deliciousness.

chicken biryani: a masterpiece of art made by the most talented chefs in the world. you can even detect the spices and the ingredients with only one spoon!

subzee: a vegetarian subzee along with cheese i think so. tasty!

and that was my review, if you want me to do a review of another restaurant located in london, please tell me and post a comment on the comment section below. thanx !

as i've said before i'm not a big fan of expensive and snooty restaurants and they simply bring out the worst critic in me. veeraswamy boasts about being the oldest indian restaurant in the uk, well then turn it into a museum! ok i'm being too harsh. the starters were good but the main course was all sorts of confusing. too much spice too little flavour. just random masalas dumped into the biryani in the hope that at least one will work. the menu is meagre so you expect even more from each dish. no desserts!!! india has a wide variety of sweet meats and you've got sorbet!

rated as top 10 eating destinations in london and the oldest curry house in uk or whatever??? it is surely fine dining with lot of hoopla around booking a table and taking you to your table and cutlery etc but quality of food left me astounded . there was nothing which you would remember after you drink a glass of water finishing food. ordered khajuri kofta with tandoori roti, some pappadums and colleague ordered simple lamb biryani. nothing to remember by and not at all impressive. the charges are exhorbitant but service was attentive atleast . simple things like pappadums (papad) are horribly passable as roadside eatery. i wouldnt recommend this to anybody as fine dining place, not surely for good indian food. no recommendations, no attention to what taste is preferred. i get better attention, food and service at any average indian restaurant.

wow!!
surprise no. 1: a fine dining restaurant at picadilly
surprise no. 2: its started by an englishman
surprise no. 3: its jam packed by englishmen
surprise no. 4: the painting on the walls doesn't necessarily depict true india. or maybe it's some ancient secrets i am not aware of..
surprise no. 5: the food is really really good - it can compete with any of the indian restaurants. we tried the raj kachori, the veg curry platter (kofta, paneer, bhindi and dal) and the bread basket. none of these dishes have been better before. kaala jaam was good - possibly could be better..

also try the mirchi martini - truly innovative..

must try for every person, indian or not!!

if you are in indian you must visit this place just to step into the history. please keep in mind that the food is adjusted to the english taste buds but it still won't disappoint you at all.

i visited this restaurant with my family. it was a really good place for the vegetarian specifically. being a vegetarian, one often find 2 or 3 items on any menu, but to have such an extensive menu full of vegetarian & vegan varieties was quite a treat. i had a hard time choosing. and the food when it arrived, it was sizzling. the taste was good. i really loved this place and wish to go back soon.
