tuc craft kitchen in gastown has been regularly named as one of the top spots for brunch in the city.  inspired by the british term “tuck into your food,”  tuc craft kitchen serves up some canadian seasonal comfort food backed by french-style cooking that’s so good you’ll want to line up for it for a weekend brunch.

the second destination on this gastown cocktail tour with “drunken noms”, and “picky diner” was “tuc”. i had chosen the place specifically for their “coffee & cigarettes”cocktail, just for its name alone; and had dragged the two with me. its more demur setting matched our more sophisticated drinks. gone were the bells and whistles and colours of the last place and instead there were some strong flavours and a consistent monochromatic theme. the visual drinker in me was not as satisfied, but my palette and tongue felt otherwise.

polly, whitney and i went out for dinner in downtown vancouver on a spring week day. it was nice to go out in the evening when the sky is still bright. whitney made reservation at tuc craft kitchen at 6:15pm. unfortunately, polly arrived late due to her meeting at work. so, whitney called to postpone our reservation twice from 6:15pm to 6:45pm and then to 7:00pm. on the second call, the restaurant told her that normally they do not allow that but just for this time.

when you’re traveling for a long period of time you really start to discover who your friends are. actually, that’s not true. what you really start to discover is which of your friends miss you the most. and while i was away in europe for 5 weeks, i discovered that friend was dexter. starting two weeks before my return date i started receiving texts asking me when i would be back. then came the texts wanting to plan something for when i returned. then more texts asking if i was back yet. if i didn’t know that he found me repulsive (he tells me this often), i would think he was in love with me.

sat in the quaint upstairs dining area. had my first introduction to shakshuka here. fell in love with the intricate layers of flavours in this dish which has led me to attempt to replicate it at home. so good!

such a great place for a brunch date and the service was spectacular. i also ordered the lavender latte and apparently they make their own syrups. it was also a very great atmosphere and i really enjoyed my time there.

chicken and waffles, a classic. i fully enjoyed the chicken. very juicy, not too dry. however, the waffles were more on the soft side and i prefer them crispier.

so i love this place but today i was a bit disappointed with what i ordered.

i decided to try a new dish waffels, with scramble eggs and baked ham. the waffels were great as usual but the the eggs were not cooked well, a but rubbery and the ham was okay. it would have been great if it was ham off the bone but it was just a thick slice or ordinary ham.

the things i loved today: the freshly squeezed oj, the boiled egg with encrusted with fried bacon. my friend got the fried chicken and waffels. amazing!!!

i'd go back because i've had so many great dishes here but be selective and stick to what they are know for is my advice.

warning: everything on this menu is drool worthy and comfort food to the max and also not for the health conscious! so throw away those scales and prepared to gain at least five pounds, you will be glad you did! . crispy bacon & egg $4. since every ig foodie that has been has eaten this staple item from the menu: crispy bacon and egg, i thought i would try to see what all the hype was about. the photo i think speaks for itself, the delicate still a bit raw egg yolk is delicately wrapped in fried up bacon with batter. the instant crunch and saltiness from the bacon tastes so good with the bit of liquid from the egg yolk. soooo good that i didn’t really want to share this!

tuc craft kitchen is an adorable little rustic cafe tucked away in historic gastown, vancouver. we had some amazing sunday brunch at tuc craft kitchen and i was delighted by how wonderful our server was. she noticed that i was not feeling really well and brought over some hot water with lemon and honey. a total sweetheart who absolutely made my day! even through my nasty cold, i could taste the fabulous flavours in the shashuksa! i loved breaking the poached egg to mix the runny yolk in with the stewed tomatoes. mmm just amazing comfort food that definitely helped making my tummy feel happy!
i am most definitely going to be returning when i am feeling better for their waffles and berries as well as the eggs wrapped in crispy bacon.

tuc craft kitchen is no doubt, one of my go to for brunch spot in vancouver. a great new addition to gastown.. i love stopping by on a weekend, browsing through the local shops along the area after my meal. it's a great way to digest the million calories i've just consumed in one sitting and gastown is home to some of my favourite shops and coffee ever.

we had been here before one early afternoon during a recent rainstorm before hogmanay. then, the place was almost packed. this time we called for a reservation before arriving and that was a good thinking on g. g. bylnn's part because tuc certainly isn't flying under the radar anymore, if ever it was. on our most recent visit the estimated wait time without a reservation, was well over one hour.

me and my two girlfriends came here on a saturday for their famous brunch menu. we were told that the wait is going to be about 45min to 1hr as it's hard to get tables for "3 people". we waited for about an hour and there's a table for 3 became available. the waitress then told us that the table would be ready for us in the next few minutes. another party of 3 came in without reservation (how do i know? coz they asked us how long is the wait!?) and they got taken to a table right away!! wth!!
we confronted the waitress and "reminded" her that we were supposed to be taken to the table! she did not explain nor apologized for what happened earlier and said: your table will soon to become available.
we know this restaurant is always busy and minor mistake can happen. however, without any apology and the ignorance that could really send their customers away.
another incident just happened: our waitress forgot our orders!!!!!!!!

went to a small christmas party here. ordered multiple appetizers. the soft boiled egg wrapped in bacon and then i think deep fried is amazing. had the beef daube as the main and it was delicious. it was incredibly filling and would be considered comfort food by most with the layer of cheese and potato awesomeness.
