i went to the restaurant with a friend this sunday to have brunch. i ordered their crispy chicken & waffles (and my friend their beluga lentils & eggs). based on their food alone (details below) this restaurant would have been a solid 4. i did have an issue with their service however. now, the staff members are quite friendly and reasonably attentive. however, the food took a very long time to arrive. we waited easily over 30 minutes (probably closer to 40). in fact, we actually flagged down a waitress because we were afraid that they might have somehow forgotten our order. i don't know if this is typical for the restaurant or if we just happened to catch them on a bad day, but the long wait did leave a bit of a bad taste in our mouths (no pun intended), and i am a bit hesitant about returning again.

crispy chicken & waffles ($17):
4/5
this is a very generous portion, consisting of two large pices of fried chicken breast and two small waffles, and was accompanied by sides of dijon mournaise, spicey ketchup, and syrup. the chicken was great. even though it was white meat (which, of course, tends to be dry), it was still quite tender and moist. it was well seasoned and flavourful, and coated in a nice crispy batter. i actually prefer this rendition over that of chewies, which i had found to be a tad too bland. the waffles were a bit flat and thin, but still tasty: soft, buttery and mildly sweet. i really liked the variety of condiments that they provided, all of which were tasty (although my favourite is still the syrup). this is probably the best rendition of chicken & waffles that i've had so far.

exquisitely crafted boutique cuisine that is complimented by an enjoyable service staff and a well thought out atmosphere.

the chicken and waffles are excellent!

portions could be described as modest (some would say small), but for the most part the prices are equally as modest.

best chicken and waffles in vancouver.  crispy, well seasoned chicken towered on a soft waffle.  three sauces whose flavours meld together perfectly.  well worth the $17 breakfast, and definitely shareable.

neat little restaurant in gastown. serving up local organic brunch favorites. casual atmosphere with quaint interiors that's perfect for meeting up with friends for a meal. i had the chicken & waffles with side of house-cured bacon. portion size of the chicken is on the larger size, came with maple syrup, strawberry sauce and a dijonnaise sauce. deliciously fried chicken went well with maple syrup and dijon sauce. the waffles were made of cornmeal was a very interesting offering compared to other brunch places.

excellent food and quick service. we started with the mussels and pork crackles-to die for. i managed to be full on another serving of mussels, but my friends ordered mains of surf and turf, crispy pork turado, and beef al forno, and finished with a shared chilled chocolate fondo.

i was there a while ago and never had a chance to do this review.  i thought the food there was pretty different, but different in a good way.  i had the steak and i loooooooved it!  i have had a few steaks in my life and this was one of the best ones.  it was cooked to perfection, exactly the way i wanted it.  the bacon wrapped egg and deep fried pork belly was really good too.  i had a drink, and i don't even remember what it was, that there was so much ice and soooo watered down that i might as well ordered a glass of tap water.  although the table i had was a tad small, but the servers were quite friendly.

really enjoyed the eggs & salad at brunch. great flavour and texture combos; i'm trying to find an excuse to go back to vancouver now! service was good and others at the table enjoyed their meals too. tried the "crispy egg" (similar to a scotch egg) and it was interesting but the tempura coating wasn't my favourite.

got netflix recently. it’s a bit of an obsession to just easily just click it on and lose myself in hours of scandalous politics. a great friend for an introvert. what an effort it was to drag myself away from it and see real human beings. coffee usually gets me going out though:. visited tuc with the gals. sorry m, for being an hour late and for making you guys wait in line for us… i had the lavender latte:

absolutely love the food here! service is great as well. my second visit, i went with a larger group so we had to order from their set menu. we went with the mid tier menu which was $41 per person. it included 4 appetizers (served family style to share), an entree and 2 desserts (family style). also ordered their crispy egg with bacon (a tuc craft specialty). it was a lot of food but super scrumptious. food was fresh and seasoned well. have yet to try their brunch still but have heard great things and sure it won't disappoint!

i have to say that my experience there is very specific to the fact that i am picky eater and have many dietary restrictions. i went to the restaurant with 6 friends. we found that there wasn't enough choices on the menu for us to have enough variety of food for dinner. (we wanted to try as much as we can, so we shared everything) it probably would have been a better experience if we were there for an afternoon snack or late night snack, not dinner.

we ordered a couple of the bacon eggs (which i could not have), the bone marrow popcorn (too salty for me), parsnip fries (too oily for my liking), the mussels (which i could not have), the elk entree (which i could not have), and the seafood stew.

the seafood stew was quite small in portion, the crab cake in there was fried to the point where the cake was more like a biscuit, it was not moist at all. the ling cod was done very nicely with a crispy outer layer. the vermicelli in the green curry was watery for me with not enough taste.

ambiance and service was good. but it was a bummer that i went in hungry and came out still hungry, but didn't feel the urge to order anything else on the menu.

last weekend, i decided i wanted to actually make plans with the boyfriend, so i made reservations for brunch at tuc craft kitchen, a western/canadian establishment in the heart of gastown through opentable. since it was my boyfriend’s first time coming here, i wanted him to try their signature pork crackling. we figured it would be a better deal to order the elevated diner rather than the pork crackling ($6) appetizer...

i came here on a sunday morning. the atmosphere is cozy and modern. the service is really really good. i love sitting up at the bar, it's a different experience as your socializing with the bartender and staff.

i ordered the farmers skillet for my girlfriend and she loved it. it's very comforting and the flavors are delicious. i had the savoury bread pudding skillet with eggs and meat and there were no regrets. however, it may be a big dish for some people, so just a heads up. then we shared the deep fried egg and that was amazing. i'm definitely coming back for that item soon.

we also ordered the smokey spicey ceaser. the bartender informed us that they use a ceaser mix called "walkers" instead of clamato, hence the difference in flavor.

and finally the highlight of my day. they use "moja" coffee beans! it's my favourite brand locally and tastes amazing. if you've been reading my posts lately, i've been drinking moja espresso, latte, and coffees, at the delly on the ubc campus. i suggest you try moja is a fantastic brand.

all in all, it was a fantastic experience. at the end of our meals the bartender gave us a flyer. if you sign up at glance pay, you get 10 dollars off your first meal.
that's awsome cause it pretty much pays for the tip.
i would recommend this place to anyone. i would like to come back for dinner soon.

tuc craft kitchen definitely makes a great stop for a cocktail crawl, with an awesome list of both classic and original cocktail recipes catered to different tastes. i was pleased with all 3 original creations this evening, with the”flowers for algernon” being the gin perfection and my favourite. the”coffee & cigarette” also makes a fun and whimsical choice. there is a good selection of small plates to go with your drinks and i think the crispy bacon and egg would go well with almost anything.

very poor service. above average food. overall, not worth it.

we were seated without a wait, as the restaurant was not too busy. took 10min for the waiter to take our drink order. while we were waiting, we were sprayed constantly by cleaning fluid by the server cleaning the table beside us. we eventually ordered drinks and food. drinks came 20min after ordering. i'm not sure how long americanos usually take in a not-busy restaurant, but 20min seems a little lengthy. the server did not even seem to remember, so we had to ask him again 10min into the wait. also, it was spilled on arrival, with no clean up. not even good americano.

food came 40min later. ridiculous wait. server blamed an input error, rather than taking personal responsibility. at no time did the server come to us to update us on our order or apologize for the wait. we had to ask about 25min in after seeing people who came in later than us get the same food order.

food was okay. nothing special. not worth the wait. you can get the same thing anywhere with much better service.

overhyped and overrated and overpriced. took almost 50min before we got food with no update from server in that time.
