i like it. but why not go to costco ($1.50 incl. pop) and bring pb&j? lawl. i kid i kid... well, sorta. this is a funky place to be. the people that work there sing while they work and they make hot dogs very professionally. they truly love their work and you'll respect what they do. it's a work of art. no i'm not being cynical or sarcastic at this very moment.

the hot dog was good but i don't see the same hype as japadog in vancouver. i don't think it's as original. it's definitely cool for a calgary joint but it's not that awesome. you do get your money's worth @ $7 a hot dog because it's friggin huge.

meh. decor is kind of neat, but i've been 3-4 times maybe twice a year for food (been to shows they have which are fun with just beers), but i don't get the food-hype..
ive gone recently again, and like times before-each time hoping to like it...if anything because it's in a great location, but the hot dogs themselves are underwhelming.
touring bands and local 'celebs' rave about it and i don't..get it.

ripped torn seats, uneven tables, dirty tables, full garbages all the time, bathrooms a bit scary, once the volume on the sound system was so loud (no band middle of the day) it actually hurt my ears and i like music!

the bun is soggy or dry and stale, and white - how about a whole wheat option? no?
the retro style is trendy, but i think that is all this place has going for it.... people think they fit in hipster style, go ahead.
im vegetarian, so i always have the 'not dog' with cheese (not even melted, had to ask for it to be melted, went back in a microwave wtf) and i tried space cheese once, even grosser.
yam fries are oily and soggy and disgusting. i left them till last to eat and the fat and oil around them began to harden to a lard-like mess..eww.
i know it's not fine dining-i get that but the place has gone downhill in cleanliness, service and can spruce it up a bit to make it good to eat in instead of going to a place you hear being fun and good and it wasn't.
sub-par.. big cheese is way better (poutinery down 17th a bit more), and won't go back to t dog unless a band is playing again and will just drink a red stripe.
price set too high for shitty food, and dirty.
sorry t-dog, i wanna like you, gave you enough chances.
just my 3 cents.

don't believe the hype. kitschy atmosphere... sorta fun to gawk at the retro items that adorn the place. but strip all that away, and you're left with a very average hot dog; burnt, floppy, soggy yam fries; loud music that reflects the tastes of the guys working there... and a $40 bill for 4 so-so hot dogs and a couple of drinks.

a staple on 17th ave, this place has survived a lot of businesses coming and going the red mile.  a simple concept, hot dogs!  they offer unique flavours and takes, which is novel.  if you can stand not getting a stomach ache on some of their choices, they are definitely different...

retro vintage diner look, also featuring video games and movie screenings, this is definitely a community hot spot and will be around for a long time.

there is so much to love about this place!!   i am a fan of the a bomb, but i always ask for different chips (i just don't like salt & vinegar or all dressed).  the bun is always soft, the dog is always cooked properly.  its a pretty fun vibe, grab some tall cans and sit by the window.   play a round of pinball or watch some cartoons while you wait.   i've had the onion rings, and they were a little over done - the batter is so thick! - so i wouldn't have those again.    its a frequent visit for me when on 17th!

...not bad; wiener very juicy but tad too salty; not as much pb as i thought it would come with, but the portion was right; i chose this to compare w vancouver's pbj burgers @ rumpus room (rip) and to dine for eatery , i'm still a fan of tde's pbj burger; fyi, there was also a 'sumo dog' that i was oh-so-tempted to try, just to compare to our beloved japadog , but didn't get a chance to dr. pepper - 2 j's comment > cherry cola, really strong on cherry flavor menu www.tubbydog.net labels: calgary, fast food, hot dog

disappointed.. to be honest i'm not sure what the fuss is all about. i've been three times, and each time hoping to like it...if anything because it's in a great location with a cool name, but the hot dogs themselves are underwhelming.

yes, they're massive, but 80% bun, and the toppings while good mostly end up falling off while trying to eat it. my friend and i each had a chill cheese dog and a drink and it was almost 20 bucks!

it's hard to be humble.... ...when you're perfect in every way. well, maybe tubby dog isn't perfect.

if you think of the prices as "a hot dog" you may shake your head and walk away. when you think of the price as "a meal that leaves your stuffed" you wonder how they pack in so much value for that price.

normally i'd do a harlo or cheetah... but i've recently been a convert to the cult of pbj w/ captain crunch (i do all my dogs as all beef). i'd highly recommend ordering the fries/yam fries/onion rings if you have friends with you.

the decor is a tribute to all things tubby dog, hot dog culture and things that go on hot dogs. the arcade machines are alright, the music is usually pretty good and if you're lucky, they'll be playing cartoons on the wall.

the hot dogs were massive, and delicious! these hot doges may seem expensive when you're ordering them, but when they arrive, it truly a meal of it's own! we ordered 2 types of dogs, one was the massive sherm's ultimate gripper : dog is bacon wrapped then deep fried. topped with ham, home made chili, cheese, mustard, bacon, hot peppers, onions and a fried egg. the other was just a normal tubby dog with homemade chili, cheese, mustard, onions, and bacon. $(function() { $(".anyclassctd").jcarousellite({ auto: 2000, speed: 1000, visible: 1 }); }); tubby dog 1022 17 ave sw calgary, ab t2t0a5 hours: sunday - thursday: 11:30 am till late friday & saturday: 11:30 am till 1 am, restaurant service friday & saturday: 1 am till 4 am, window service

definitely distinct. definitely unique. definitely calgary. my friends go nuts for this place. nenshi eats here. but at the end of the day? it's a hotdog. that's all ppl. if you can't figure out how to put pineapple and bacon or over warmed chili on a weiner at home you have serious cooking challenges. personally? i bbq this stuff at home and i can blow it away. even 7-11 does a reasonable facsimile. i've been to nyc where they take hotdogs seriously. this ain't art, and not at $10 bucks a pop.
