my son and i came to tubby dog last night for a dog and some video games. the got dogs are very tasty and we thought the combinations of flavors were good. i do think that it is a little pricy for what you get.

overall, a good experience. an added bonus is that tubby dog is one of the few places that still has video games.

calling these hot dogs is like calling the mona lisa "just some painting".  they are a food experience that shows what can be done with the humble tube steak with a lot of imagination.
from plain to dogs you have to figure out how to attack to eat they are all crazy good and not just a snack either.
prices are fair, service is friendly and quick, just bring cash and a bib - things could get messy.

another "you gotta' eat here" inspired visit.
didn't disappoint!
certainly not fine dining.
just unique food at reasonable prices.
decided to go "all in" with the sherm's ultimate gripper.
never thought a hotdog would get the best of me...but i actually couldn't finish this mountain. the battle however...was torally worth it!
check it out.
certainly not your grandfathers hotdogstand!

i have tried a couple hot dogs here all tasted good. the sumo was probably my favorite but there was one monthly hot dog that i had beans, mustard & ketchup can not remember the name of it  but actually worked together.

i'm rating it a 1 so do i need to say more? there was a line up at the door half an hour before and 20 minutes after the opening time. staff kept glancing out during this time so they knew we were out there. once entering they had a masterpiece of a hot dog posted on the wall.  despite having a build your own option on the menu when i asked if i could have that they just bluntly said "no you can't."  the hot dog i ended up getting was.maybe worth $2.00 but i payed $6.00 and i could have made better at home myself. suffices to say they don't get my stamp of recommendation even after being seen on gotta eat here.

i love that they stay open late to feed the hungry bar hoppers on the weekend. they're a good sized dog for the price and well worth trying one of their more inventive big dogs like the captain crunch.

for $7.75, the tubby dog is legendary. a huge 1/3 lb hot dog buried in chili, cheese and onion. a huge portion of chips (aka fries) is $5 and they are the best chips i have had in calgary since leaving england 10 years ago; unbelievable flavor and memories of english chips.
i had a pickled egg too, that was another british novelty and memory.
however the thing that shocked me was the sign that said "orders of $50 will be subject to a mandatory 18% gratuity". wth? i have never seen anything like this in my 10 years in this city (or anywhere else for that matter). don't they want our money? do they want to discourage us? as it's basically a take-out burger joint with no waitress service why on earth do they think they can ask for a huge tip like that? 5% might be reasonable, but 18%?! and btw, three of us spent $33 so it's easy to get up to that magical $50 with a party of 5 or 6, so my advice would be to split the order into 2 x 3 to spite them or ... simply go somewhere else.
my wife and kid felt the place was a bit dirty and the bathrooms were grungy, but i explained that hipsters live like that ;-)
in summary, amazing hot dogs and fries, and a shocking 18% tip for a $50 order.

i strongly recommend tubby dog for anyone who loves a blast from the past. tubby dogs environment is fitted with pinball machines and vintage foods like spray cheese in a can. the hot dogs themselves massive which makes them a perfect midnight snack. if the restaurant is busy don't be afraid to take out as the hotdogs taste just as good at home!

umm yum! the most delicious concoction of hot dog goodness. it is a great place to indulge and at a reasonable price too! make sure you note they only accept cash.

love this place!great place for a quick and cheap bite to eat. if people want to say bad things about tubby dog...go ahead...it's a hot dog place, please do not come expecting something gourmet. it's a grungy place, but i love the atmosphere! everyone is super nice, it's a great place to chill with friends. i always get the a-bomb...cheese, chips, and bacon, what more do you need. i have also tried the pbj which also has a very interesting flavor. you can order the tubby chips...a whole food tray of fries! they also have special nights such as tubby taqueria on tuesdays (best lengua tacos that you can get in the city) and tubby burgers on wednesdays. tubby dog is just a great fast food resturant, they have classic arcade games and they are located right on 17th ave. quick and easy place to get some good grub! just accept the carbs!

hot dogs are big, messy, and tasty. the meat is very 'costco-esque' if that makes sense, to those of you who have had their hot dogs. the 'chips' or fries were disappointing, they were bland and kinda burnt tasting, so skip ordering them and just get hot dogs. the restaurant itself is very grungy, but it's location is wonderful.

tubby dog is a place that prides itself on atmosphere and novelty. between the huge portions, weird hot dog flavours, arcade machines and music it's a very hipster experience.

once you get past all that, it's really just another fast food restaurant. the taste isn't anything to brag about but it's good.

always randomly closed. went here for the first time 2 years ago and been back a few times since. the food is great.

however, 3 times i have now been there in the past 2 years and it has been closed when it says on the website it's open. today we went and waited till 11:40 am and it still wasn't open, so we just left. really needs to be more reliable or provide updated information on the website regarding later opening times/days when they are closed.

no sides on tuesday?. i've been living out of the city for a year and i have been dying to return to tubby dog. tonight me and my partner went to fill my craving, but when we arrived we saw a sign on the menu that read:
"no sides" on tuesdays
the guy working there didn't seem to get my joke that putting something in quotation marks doesn't make it seem legit. we thought it was ridiculous that we couldn't get sides (fries or chilli or onion rings) because 1- wtf and 2- we saw other people eating fries as we waited for our hot dogs! even more odd, we found out later, was that tuesdays is taco nights, but he neglected to even mention that to us. hello, if you aren't serving sides because it's taco night- tell us it's taco night cause we totally would have bought some as our sides! love the food, don't like the service!
